The original CCS does have gay characters, both male and female, although from what I hear, there's no explicit sex or anything like that so it is at worst very mild shounen ai and shoujo ai. One is an unrequited crush, the others are a relationship that's in the background for the most part (or so I've heard). :)

Dragonball: does have a few brief instances of nudity in the original version.

CCS: does have some mild implied homosexuality. There are 2 one-way crushes that never go anywhere and 1 relationship that's, as Millyfan said, mostly in the background from what I've heard about it.

In the CCS manga, there's one majorly hinted yaoi pairing. It's not too bad though. You could chalk it up to a friendship if you wanted.

The choice has been made. There's no looking back. I won't let up, back up, give up, or shut up. My focus clear. My path is straight. My God, reliable. I'm a disciple of Christ.

Okay, folks, this thread is on *good* anime that people *can* watch, so let's get back on topic, please.

Just as a reminder, posts in this thread must have justification! No "top 10 lists" unless you justify why.

I apologize if this anime has already been mentioned, but I wanted to get past the "My Fave" lists, so I skipped to the last page.

Wolfs Rain

This anime is insane. I can't reccomend it for "family" viewing but as viewing for parents with older children or something to watch with your llittle brothers as I did. They're 11 & 13. After almost every ep. there was IMHO a distinctly Christian mesage. Laying your life down for another, true friendship, consequenses of sinful action, etc. I'm looking at this from a Christian perspective though. I don't know if an unbeliever would have the same feelings. Not something to just hand kids and say 'here you go', but with the right guidance a very positive series!

Inuyasha is a good anima. there is mild swearing, voilence, sexual themes, and has demons everywhere in it. the main character is a half demon. if you can handle it it's very cool. the series is funny, has a lot of action, and has some romance in it.

Well, if you take the title of this thread "Good Anime" in context, it's really stating "Family Friendly Anime." Chobits would hardly belong under that banner. So while some may say that Chobits was a good anime, it's not to be considered a good anime, if you get my drift.

Good anime and family Friendly anime are 2 different things altogether.

Big O eps 3-6 are clean. Those are the only ones on CN I have seen. I'd steer clear of inuyasha. Not exactly family freindly. Actully none of Takashi's work is family freindly. It may be good but the Lord has led me away from her stuff. CCS is clean if you can ignore the shoujo ai undertones. .Hack//sign is clean, but very slow in parts. The OVAS have cussing. Grave Of The Fireflies is clean and very sad. Of course Chobits is in NO way family veiwing. Most of Miyazaki's movies are good. The exceptions being I belive Nadessico,Porrca Rossca and Princess Monokokoe. The first two I just put cuz I know nothing about them. The later has violence and dark images. And steer clear of most of what blockbuster carries. None of it is family veiwing. At least at mine.

I don't know if anybody has already mentioned it, but my favorite anime is Now and Then, Here and There. I don't recommend it for the squeamish however and I would definitely stick to the 16 and up warning on the box. It deals with some very intense issues and does not shy away. Some of the things that happen in it are very evil, but they are portrayed that way and not necessarily shown on screen. The main character is very positive and tries to fight against these injustices.

The violence in it is less brutal than in most action anime, but the true brutality of it is emotional. Bad things happen to good people.

The message is one of hope though, and I'm being a little extra critical just to keep people away who may be too squeamish for it as I have noticed that there are some younger members on the boards. It is my absolute favorite though, and if your over 16 and can stand some intense emotional drama this is a must see.

Kite, you need to explain a little more :) why are those three appropriate? For bonus points, what about the plot, the content and the characters would be good for a seven year old?

In regard to Ruroken's question

Postby true_noir_chloe » Fri Mar 05, 2004 8:24 pm

These are both family friendly and good, IMHO. I'll also give stars at the end.

A Little Snow Fairy Sugar - This is a sweet anime with a great story. It has lulling, beautiful piano music as the score and a cute, and catchy theme song. The dance at the end of the show is great to try with your younger siblings.;) The characters are fully developed and have issues that are never over the top for a seven-year-old. It's rated 3 and up. I've heard it's too sugary sweet for the teen set; but, my daughter and I really enjoyed the message of love and friendship, and it's beautiful art together. ***** My #1 pick.:thumb:

Hamtaro - This is a must see for anyone who loves cute little creatures. These hamsters share love and friendship on daring adventures and within their relationships with their owners. The owners, Hamtaro's is Lara, have their own stories going, as well - and they grow and have fun together, too. It's rated All Ages. ***** My #2 pick.

My Neighbor Totoro - I first saw this movie by Miyazaki when the kids were very little. The only problem you might find with it is the Japanese belief in spirits which exist in all of nature; there are sprites in the family's home. Totoro, I think, is the spirit of the large tree that is on their property. It, however, has nothing scary or ghost-like, and instead is a sweet story of how two girls overcome their mother's hospitalization. They are seperated from their mom for the first time and find comfort in the large Totoro, who whimsically takes them away, seeing things they had never seen before - all before bedtime.:) It's had wonderful reviews and is hailed as one of Miyazaki's best classic family films. It's rated G. *****

Pokemon - I've always enjoyed Pokemon and 4Kids actually cleaned it up to a G rating. The movies are all fun and clean, from what I remember. They are rated G. Each has the cutest shorts before the full-length feature. These shorts are always how Pikachu and friends work together to accomplish some task, and become closer for it. I think they're enjoyable and I've never seen anything objectionable in them. ****

Hello Kitty - Oooo, this is a definite kiddy fare. They even teach counting, safety, manners, and much more on each disc. Easily they could place this on Nick Jr. and have no problem. It's just so cute. The stories are the usual working together to complete a task and have a fun make-believe adventure while you're at it. It's Kitty, her twin sister, Mimmy, and friends. Your seven-year-old might even find this too young for he/she, but it's definitely cute, and I enjoy watching it. ****

Mao Chan - This has an over-the-top cuteness factor. Three 2nd-graders are called upon to defend the earth. They have these little clover-leaf lapel pins, that when they push them in, they change into their fighting uniforms. It's very cute and much more enjoyable in Japanese with subtitles. The music is nice and it's extremely clean. It's rated All Ages. I found the aliens these girls fight, the most comical part. The aliens come down in UFO catchers. These aliens are soooo cute, you hate to see them destroyed, which is why the government has implemented 2nd-graders to take them down. I really like this one.:) *****

Well, I hope these helped some. I would have added Cardcaptor Sakura and the Adventures of the Mini-Goddesses, but those are rated 13 and up. I'm not sure why.:eh: So, I'll skip those.

[size=84][color=seagreen]YOU SEE

You see into the deepest part of me ---

beyond the fog I hide behind.

You cast your light upon the shadows

that stretch like cobwebs in my mind.

You ease the pain when I am hurting,

and morbid visions from my past

pierce into the realm of Reason

as though I danced on blades of glass.

You grant me strength when I have fallen

and, once again, I've lost my way.

You take my hand in Yours and lead me

into the promise of a brand new day.

You bring order to all my chaos,

yet set my well-laid plans awry.

You place me on a firm foundation ---

then give me wings so I can fly.

You sand away my roughened edges

and polish all the dullest parts

until I stand before Your presence...

a newly-sculpted work of art.

You see into the heart within me,

right through my motives and selfish will.

And yet, in spite of all You see

You say You love me even still.

There are many anime series I enjoy, but some people may not neccessarily enjoy the same ones that I do!

Vision of Escaflowne-I love this one because of the action and plot twists and little bits of romance thrown in. Some friends of mine don't like it because of the whole Tarot card thing, but as a strong Christian, it really doesn't bother me all that much. I just enjoy the story, and it's rated PG-13 for a bit of language and violence.

Fruits Basket-this series is awesome, and oh-so-sweet, without being superficial! I just love the characters and the easy going nature of the story, and the bits of humor!! It is rated PG-13, and is not for everyone, it being based on the Chinese Zodiac, but it's really harmless and fun!

Outlaw Star-this is also a fun anime, but despite it's PG-13 rating, there is some nudity (though not full nudity) and language. For a show about bounty hunters, there is not a lot of violence. It's just really really cool!

I could go on and on, but these are the ones I feel like explaining at this point!
Between the idea

Between the motion
And the act

For Thine is the Kingdom

Between the conception

And the existence
Between the essence
And the descent
Falls the Shadow

For Thine is the Kingdom

This is the way the world ends

Here are a few of mine:

Rurouni Kenshin -- awesome characters, spectacular artwork, great discussion of life ^^

You're Under Arrest -- Absolutely nothing objectionable. Days in the life of a Tokyo police precinct, which is always far from ordinary.

Vandread -- I recommend this with caution, because it does have homosexual overtones. But hetero is still the norm in this show, which has very nice CGI and very memorable characters.

Cowboy Bebop -- Recommended with caution due to violence and promotion of illegal activity. But overall a nice story.

My Neighbor Totoro -- Just CUUUTE!

GTO (Great Teacher Onizuka) -- Days in the life of a rookie teacher who used to be a gang leader. Very funny and very touching. ^^

Yes, I'm sort of wary of GTO as well -- it's not really an all-ages show. YUA! is an interesting choice.

Gentle but *firm* reminder, since we have had some less usual suggestions: this thread isn't about just anime that's per se "good" but rather shows that are good choices for everyone (see the very first post in this thread).

Cat Soup may have an intriguing concept and style, but the violence in it (let alone its avowed target audience) definitely means it doesn't fall into this category -- and likewise for GTO, the more mature aspects of it don't make it suitable for all ages either.
