I love instrumental sound-tracks (and sometimes even vocal soundtracks). Favourite soundtracks are:

• Jurassic Park by John Williams. Some of the tunes are just "mood music", but the main theme is beautiful.
• Fargo by Carter Burwell. One of the best scores ever written. It just is. It fits the mood of the movie perfectly.
• Spirited Away soundtrack by Joe Hisashi. Just plain good.
• Castle in the Sky by Joe Hisashi. Just plain good.
• The Lion King. Both the songs by Tim Rice & Elton John, and the score by Hans Zimmer are excellent. Zimmer's score borrows (in its sadder parts) from Mozart's Requiem
• Alfred Hitchcock's Vertigo, score by Bernard Hermann. Easily handsdown one of the best scores ever produced. So good you may not realize how good it is on first viewing the movie, but repeat viewings will show that this score is a masterpiece. Better than his more famous Psycho theme (also for Hitchcock)
• Sunset Boulevard by Franz Waxman. Another subtle score that builds slowly until the famous disturbing "staircase" climax. This is the score from the movie, not to be confused with Andrew Lloyd Webber musical inspired by the film (which has a different score).
• Amadeus by WA Mozart. Okay, so this is a "best off" soundtrack, but it blends and works so beautifully with everything in the movie that it counts as one.
• 1492: Conquest of Paradise by Vengelis. Boring movie, apparently, and apparently the score doesn't fit in with the movie to boot, but on its own its beautiful.
• Blade Runner by Vengelis. One of the best, most atmospheric soundtracks ever written.
• Dragonheart by Randy Edelman. One of the best soundtracks ever written, too bad the movie is just good and not excellent.
• Titanic by James Horner. Essentially a rip-off of Enya's music (she was the original choice by James Cameron for the score) but still a good score.

Yeah, I'm into soundtracks pretty heavy too. I'd list all the ones I like, but no one will actually read it, they'll just skim over the titles to see if they like any of the same ones. ^^; My top played OST at the moment is a tie between the Steamboy album and National Treasure.

Yep, I listen to soundtracks. Stuff like Star Wars, Lord of the Rings, Pirates of the Carribean, etc. are all in my collection. I also have a load of video game soundtracks, which are also good, but unfortunately, my FF7 track is not orchestrated. XD This means it sounds just like the game, which is good if you're playing the game, but if not...It's just bothersome. XD My Chrono Cross OST, however, is orchestrated (I think because the game's music was), so I listen to that one more often. But honestly, I haven't listened to any of my OST's in a while, since I prefer vocals in my music moreso than just instrumental (though I do like instrumental from time to time). :)

My collection is dominated by soundtracks. Well, maybe not my collection, but at least the stuff I actually listen to. Mostly anime soundtracks, but there are some others in there, too.

Revenge of the Sith! All john williams music pwnz, its a fact. I also have the LOTR trilogy soundtrack and the Chronicles of Narnia sountrack :) I happen to like the spiderman music a lot too but the sound tracks are mostly punk/rock stuff that had little to do with the actual movie so i had to settle for ripping the overture from spiderman II (which isnt even in the soundtrack).

You must mean "Holding Out for a Hero". And yes, it rocks.

I don't own whole soundtracks, save for Halo 2 and Transformers: The Movie. I buy individual tracks from iTunes m'self.

Yeah, alot of 'em. Ones I can think right now being the LOTR ones and a bunch of Disney CDs.

Also, while not really "movie," the One Piece background themes oddly remind of stuff like the LOTR and Pirates of the Carribean themes.

Phantom of the Opera I wouldn't really consider a Movie Soundtrack as it was originally a musical and they took practically all of the music from the musical for the movie... but I DOOO LOVE the music from The Phantom of the Opera!

We actually sang a medley from Phantom of the Opera this past year for Chorus class at my High School! :thumb:

I love movie soundtracks. Take up quite a big chunk out of my library.

-classical soundtracks, a la Amadeus, Immortal Beloved and the Fantasia movies. great stuff, can't go wrong with the masters.
-Lord of the Rings, gets better every disc.
-LOTS of anime.
-1492: Conquest of Paradise, very good main theme, and atmospheric. And bigsleepj, I didn't find the movie boring at all ;)
-Anastasia. Oh yes, good music/songs from that one.
-Same thing with the Hunchback of Notre Dame.
-The Nightmare Before Christmas, yeah.
-Final Fantasy: Advent Children.
-V for Vendetta, don't know where I left it though. Only two tracks are really good, but whatever.
-A Hard Day's Night and Help, which sort of count as being soundtracks.
-The Fifth Element, gotta love that diva.
-Cabaret, I've never seen the stage version but this soundtrack is a guilty pleasure of mine.
-Le Portrait de Petite Cossette, a favorite of mine. I play it when I want to create something beautiful.

Movie soundtracks are awesome. Pretty much anything by John Williams is golden.

The LOTR movies all have beautiful and haunting scores.

Titanic also had a wonderful score, even if that one song was driven into the freaking ground on the radio.

The Matrix movies had good music in them.

Dragonheart did have a really good score! I also noticed that they rip off the theme a lot for trailers.

Oh yeah I loooooove soundtracks! I just love the creativity of composers so much more than usual mainstream music. Here's the main composers I love:

John Williams (Star Wars, Indiana Jones, Olympic fanfares...)
Danny Elfman (Batman 1989, and Batman Returns, the Simpsons theme, Spiderman, Men in Black...)
Hans Zimmer (The Lion King, Gladiator, Pirates - Dead Man's Chest, The Rock...)
James Horner (Titanic, Deep Impact...)

And for video games/anime:
Michiru Yamane (Castlevania: SotN and LoI)
Yuki Kajiura (.hack anime, Xenosaga II, Noir)
Nobuo Uematsu (the Final Fantasy series)
Yasunori Mitsuda (Chrono Trigger, Chrono Cross, Xenosaga I)

I own a lot of soundtracks. I listen to them a lot when I read books or draw, they help set the mood. The latest I got was the Dead Man's Chest soundtrack, which is so awesome and powerful. I might even get the Kraken as my ringtone... :thumb:
