Good "Cheer you up animes"

Postby Shuji » Thu Jun 22, 2006 1:43 pm

what are some good animes to see/ buy after watching tragedies? I love goofy ones like FLCL etc. but i also dont really like quote one quote "Kiddy" animes. Ive seen too many tragedy animes recently and need a good break from them with some more high spirited ones.

well...Bleach tends to cheer me up. The random comedy and all. Plus the adrenaline doesn't hurt.

Azumanga daioh,

I should warn you to avoid the second half of Excel, except for ep 17... well, if you've ever been a Sailormoon fan, anyhow... Watch an ep of Sailormoon in Japanese, except for the short number of eps that had a different seiyuu for usagi (the end of Season 1 and the beginning of season 2, used the seiyuu that eventually did Chibi Usa's voice...) then watch excel 17... In Japanese with subs, of course... Oh, so stinking funny...

On one of the Fruits Basket extras, the Japanese promo said that "it's a series that'll give you warm fuzzies" and that it does^^

One Piece (the original one, not the dub) is incredible and always ends up making me feel good when I see it. Yes, even during some of the more "serious" moments (which are rare :p ).

It's humourous, unique, epic, and insanely fun. PM me if you're interested in checking it out. ;D

I would have to agree with Bobtheduck that Azumanga Daioh is a good "cheer you up" anime.

A good "cheer you up" manga would definately be Yotsuba&!

Yes! Yotsuba will make you happy! So will Ranma 1/2. If you don't want to sit and watch a series, Howls Moving Castle will give you the warm fuzzies, as will Steamboy. Fruits Basket is a good one, as well as Ultra Maniac.

I second (third?) Azumanga Daioh and Yotsuba&!; they're both great (though the latter is a manga)!

A good one that is just now coming out is Strawberry Marshmallow. I got a lot of laughs out of the first volume and it reminds me somewhat of Yotsuba!&.

Don't forget Nadesico, holmes. Good stuff, likeable characters, a little epic mecha action, and some very epic oldschool giant robot spoofs. if mecha's your thing, check it out!

Hmm... Nadesico isn't really cheer you up... two very sad deaths, and the fate of the main characters is pretty depressing too... I mean, it's really funny, but it's like MASH... It gets very sad, too...

Phil Hartman wrote:The original Gatekeepers series is another good cheer up title. It does have a few serious moments here and there that wane the overall cheery mood of the series (however, since it's an action title, that should obviously go without saying). For the most part, I felt that the characters made the show light-hearted and spirited, as well as the intended B-movie feeling of the atmosphere. Everything ends on a happy note for this series, so it should fit well with you wanting a good action cheer up. :)

Yeah... Just avoid the followup, Gatekeepers 2021... Very depressing... I don't know about Gatekeepers 198x, though... I'm not sure it's out yet, even...

DEFINETLY not "cheer you up." Lots of deaths and disturbing bits and the anime ended up going downhill from what I've heard (ran off to much from the manga).

Now and Then, Here and There... okay maybe not.

I'll have to agree with Azumanga Daioh and add Jubei-Chan. And I'm not sure if I should admit this... Snow Fairy Sugar can be a real pick up too... :shake: excuse me while I go hide my shame in a dark broom closet.
