Anyone have any idea what this actually DOES? I found the link at Tokyopop, and it certainly piqued my interest. Has anyone ever used it, etc?

Manga Studio is a graphics program that helps artists digitally do what traditional manga artists do by hand - including tone work, speech balloons, formatting frames and page layouts. I've also seen advanced users become very adept at doing all of their finishing and cleaning in that program as well.

For me, it's far too expensive to be worth itself - yes, the traditional way takes longer and takes more patience, and sometimes you're not saving anything by the time you have all of your materials included - especially if you have to import your tones from Japan. However, between PaintShop Pro and creative adapting with less-expensive artist materials, I am still satisfied that the manga panels I create are just as nice-looking. If I ever wanted to submit to a publisher I might consider purchasing Manga Studio, but at that point I would have enough money saved up to be a full-fledged manga artist either way - traditional or digital.

So are you planning on being a professional manga artist?

Looks cool... unfortunately it still requires basic talent in drawing so it won't do me any good ;)

It's one of those things that is probably a pipe dream. It's what I'd like to do, but realistically I know that being an artist doesn't put food on the table or pay the bills.
