My Vegetable Garden RAWR!!!

Hey guys - osashiburidesune.

I am mostly just posting in the Jam Session nowadays. I have been pretty busy with school and such. Anyways, I just wanted to post something that I have been up to. Not sure if anyone knew but I did a vegetable garden last year (2 plots 5 x 8) that had plants such as tomatos, brocolli, habanero peppers, jalapeno peppers, squash,cayenne peppers, etc. It was a collosal success so I decided to branch even further and enlarge my garden. I will be providing pictures tonight and then tommorow but it's basically done. I just need to add some soil in.





These were taken a few months ago. These pictures shows how big the new garden will be. As of right now, the entire thing has been dug up. The last picture is the Blueberry Bush I planted

These are fairly new pictures which are my Raspberry patch, Blueberry Bush, and Strawberry Patch.


I apolgize for those last 2 - they were done quickly.

Anyways, I am gonna take more better ones tommorow when I fill up the 2 plots. This year, I plan on putting in:

Tomatos
Brocolli
Jalapeno Peppers
Beets
Radishes
Blueberries
Raspberries
Strawberries
Zuchinni
Hungarian Hot Wax Peppers
Onions
Carrots
And anything else I find. I will be sure to post up more pictures when mid-July comes. People who we knew would just stop to stroll through my previous garden so this one will be even cooler. Next year, I have been debating in adding a 3rd but smaller plot to house a even bigger strawberry patch or quite possibly something with herbs. Or create a trellis and grow grapes.

I on the other hand, am a brown thumb. Uh..I have a potted plant..in my room, and it's survived a year. That's gotta be a record, but then again it's right by my doorway and it has several protruding branches that tend to smack me in the face whenever I go in and out. So it tends to demand attention and it's very obvious when it's getting droopy due to lack of watering.

The Harvest Moon series is why I got into vegetable gardening When I get my own land and such, I plan on planting several plum trees, peach trees (if possible), apples trees, and tons of other fruits and vegetables (like blackberries, grapes, and such). Anyways, everything is filled in with soil! It looks pretty good! I have some pictures:

Wow. Awesome garden.

I once had a garden, but that was back when we lived in New Mexico, and only the Indian squash survived. And yea, it did thrive.
Now, I take care of our (3) citrus trees. It's not much, but harvest time is fun.

whoa... the grass/plants in your backyard are like... vivid green! haha. It looks even MORE awesome now that you filled in the dirt. Keep us posted with your garden's progress and the... "fruits of your labor" hehe. I couldn't help but say it.

I don't garden, mainly 'cause I don't like to go outside, but I like to garden in Harvest Moon. :D;;;

I planted some begonias, red salvias, and some bell peppers in my backyard. I also planted some ferns, cannas and gladioli but they haven't come up yet. I had started some geraniums from seed, but they all died. I'm good at maintaining plants that are already well up, but I'm terrible at growing them from seed (except for the peppers).

I suggest just going to a nusery and buying them as pre-grown. I am still buying my plants as pre-grown so that when I purchase them, I can plant them right away.

Though maybe next year, I might build a small hotbox or greenhouse for fun.

This year we are going to plant a lot of stuff or at least a lot more than last year.

We have never really had a sucessful garden... ever. The rabbits and deer eat everything we plant. Well last year the tomatoes grew and so did my watermelon.

I would LOVE to grow watermelon!!! We hd a big yard but not big enough for those.

I had zero luck with lettuce and beets. I had no idea how to do lettuce and the beets kept on having thier green tops being eaten by rabbits. So they never got to truly grow and they were not in a raised garden bed.

This year I got a very nice rabbit fence and am making a mound (as you can see) for my rooted vegetables.

While we don't actually garden at my house (its not the greatest place for it...) my grandma has an awesome garden. They live out in the country and she's been gardening since she was little. She's gotten less each year cause she's getting older, but I LOVE going up to her house when there's raspberries. We pick them right off and eat them ^^ Unless of course there's tons of dumb bugs... june beetle things... *smashes them all*

She makes really really good strawberry and raspberry jams. They also have a pear tree so she cans them for us and those are really good too.

I also remember when I was little digging potatoes out of her garden and getting corn off the stocks. She had alot more back then. It was like an adventure to go to her house and do stuff in the garden ^^

I want to do corn but I like in a suburban area so there are alot of squirrels. My best friends mom is my gardening partner (we give each other advice and trade vegetables and stuff) and she said the squirrels will go up the corn stalks, break the stalks, and eat the corn. So yeah.

Anyways, I decided I am relocating my strawberries so the recieve the maximum sunlight as well as I am gonna try out Spinach

And how's this for ya? I had some extra time after my one final so I went to a nearby nursery and talked to the people there for 4 hours. Haha. My mother and I are going garden shopping on Thursday.

My mother said last year was the most hilarious thing when I would go out to inspect my plants. Here I am, dressed in all black with hair go every which way (or a fro) - walking out in bare feet and gently touching the plants. Haha.

Sorry for the lack of updates. Everything has been planted since mid-May. These are pictures taken a few weeks later. As well, we added rabbit fencing. To say the least, rabbits got to my spinach, brocolli, and raspberries.

The only pictures I didn't get is of the spinach and raspberry and bluebeery bush. I have some red raspberries already and I just found some blueberries growing. I have some tomatoes and peppers growing as well. The radish's are also forming and when you remove the some of the soil, you can see the red parts of the radish.

ur garden is so neat/ orderly compared to ours. Our's is just kind of a blob. It is going fairly well though. Our beans, peas, corn, squash, and tomato plant have sprouted.

My goodness. I did not know that you were a gardener, Hitokiri. My family has multiple flower gardens, and one big vegetable one. Right now we are growing broccoli, snow peas, squash, spinach, lettuce, tomatoes, basil, and cilantro. I think that's everything...

Magonias (or something like that), Marigolds, some flower that attracts butterflies and hummingbirds, and snapdragons.

Lettuce. I am not growing lettuce though. Look at the whole garden photos and you will see this plant in the isle way. I did lettuce last year and one sprouted right where I had them planted last year.

^ - do they seem wilty? It's because I have just disovered Cucumber beetles have been munching on them. I ran into problems with these things last ayear when the completely decimated my cucumbers. Hopefully, my zucchini will persevere.

I have tried to grow morning glories but it didnt work. I dont remember why either. My mom just put a bunch of wooden stakes in our veggie garden today. Its looking pretty good so far but its nothing compared to Hitokiri's

Thanks so much! I go out there at least 6 times a day and will sometimes sit out there for a hour or so and just watch. My neighbors are all impressed - even the cranky one who has been doing gardens for 40 years now.

6 times a day?! 0_o Thats alot. No wonder its looking so good. By the way, is that fencing really keeping out the rodents and such? A chipmunk has been feasting on our pea plants so i was curious. Thanks!

Yeah, unless I am busy I like to spend alot of time out there. Since it's summer, I go out there at dusk when the lightning bugs are out. I havn't had problems with chipmunks however, I did have rabbit problems when they chewed a hole through my plastic fencing so I put the metal fencing up. I then staple gunned them to the wooden beams.

Anyways, I don't have new pictures however everything is huge right now. It looks great. I just harvested the radish's and they are all gone (,my dad ate most of them) so I will be growing them again in the fall. They are very pretty plants.
