Nothing new to see, just more confirmation that everything is still being worked upon behind the scenes, as announced at the Anime Boston 2006 expo:

"ADV also made several confirmations during the panel. The biggest and most exciting of them all was that the Live Action Evangelion Movie is confirmed and is going through pre-production." -Krazy Gamers

Thanks Camarokris"

New concept art was also just newly updated on the site. It's been going through pretty steady, actually^^ I also saw on the site about a week ago, saying that a rough script was just made.

Yeah, well. That is about the same comments that was said at AWA last year at the ADV panel.

There is a problem, ADV doesn't have the money right now to make this movie. Now if they is another money backer that has came in, then yes, it may happen.

But I'm not going to hold my breath for this, because the same comments have been said for DBZ movie. Plus EVA has been said that its been in pre-production for a years now. All I have seen is the art work.

By the way, according to ADV, the movie isn't in preproduction. This is the only information they gave:

Matt Greenfield says that Weta approached ADV about approaching Gainax to do a live action Eva movie.

Three "A List" directors that are also fans of Evangelion approached ADV about the project, not the other way around. In other words, ADV isn't seeking directors, directors are asking them. If it was in preproduction, it would be the other way around.

Greenfield says a director will most likely be signed by the end of the year.

These statements are taken directly from the ADV panel at Anime Boston 2006. Despite rumors, there is no cast list, no director, and only a "slug script," which is a bare bones script that will be rewritten to fit the director's tastes.

Also, Weta is currently working on Halo, and I'm sure they won't work on two movies at the same time (especially two movies as big as these).

EDIT: Also, Wingzero is right. They only have about half the budget they need to make this movie, and without the money, no production can start.

Having seen the live action Sailor Moon (for amusement purposes) I can basically gaurantee that the Hollywood version would have to try to be any worse. I assume that they would have decent actors and good special effects, though it would still be impossible to escape a feeling of ridiculousness. Not that this means I think we do need this version.

Of course just because the rights get picked up doesn't mean they'll get acted on. A lot of times the options just lapse too.

With Alita I remember people discussing this since 2000 with it supposing to be imminent before long back then, with Eva, I saw pre-production images in 2002. Until they actually announce something starting I wouldn't put much stock in it

And I agree with UC that they would have to deliberately do badly to race the Japanese LA version to the bottom.

Of course I don't see a LA Sailor Moon going anywhere until the legal issues are cleared up in Japan.

To me any movie that is based on a anime would only be good depending on the actors who star in it, the studio who makes it and the director who directs it.
I think another anime based movie to add to the list is Star Blazers.
Acourse if any of the movies do good will there be sequels and more anime series to become live action movies.
I thought that Disney would have a hand in the Salior Moon movie because don't they own DIC and a few other studios. That way they can make movies that can be GP, GP-13 and even R rated.

OH I forgot to add my own idea. That there should be a Gunsmith Cats movie. I had one time thought Jessia Alba should star in it, maybe someone like Mila Kunis who played Jackie on that 70s Show or maybe a star of Hispanic background.

The ghost in the shell movies are the most realistic anime movies out there, I don't see a big need to turn them into a live-action that wouldn't have that special something that is there in it being anime. But they might do well anyway. Heck, probably better ever since they'd be emore "accessible" to the general public. But all of the, "magic" would be lost. I guess that's what I'm trying to say...

i'm spoiled on the sub and can't stand the dub of sailor moon. i agree. it will either rock or...not rock. completely black and white. for me at least.
i'm 1/2 hoping that hollywood won't do sailor moon and not ruin one of my all-time favorite anime's for me.

The one series I think would be fun to turn into a live action movie would be
Excel Saga.Though they would have to find an actress who could act in uberhyper
mode all the time to play Excel.

I think I understand you. For the most part, I don't see a need for live action movies because they would pretty much be the same story but in another form. They are more or less superfluous to me unless they are somehow particularly interesting.

I can't wait to see the Battle Angel Alita live-action. With James Cameron involved, it'd have to be good. Has anyone here read the manga version of Battle Angel Alita?

I've read it all and currently on vol.6 of the second part. VERY good old-school cyberpunk.

Awesome! SOme series won't really work the same, but I had heard Battle Angel Alita and Speed Racer were currently in the works. I also heard Initial D too, but the new movie Fast and Furious Tokyo Drift is frighteningly close in what it would look like, lol

Frankly, I'm pessimistic about live-action movies based on anime. Sailor Moon is RIGHT out. It would be even sillier than normal. Most anime would look somewhat silly in LA.

Hey guys, I've got an idea. Let's try to Photoshop some images of what live action anime might look like. I'll try to whip one up when I get back to the house this evening.

I have neither the time nor the talent to participate in that, but I would very much enjoy seeing some of what people come up with. We have a lot of people who can be creatively funny, and I think that could do well.

I have too. I'm wondering how much the violence is gonna be toned down currently on the series considering it has slasher-flic-esque blood and guts. I'm on the most recent US release of the second part of the series.

I saw the LA Sailor moon, it wasn't bad, I wouldn't mind another version, I feel they messed up some parts in the LA

Actually, they did make an asian live-action of Initial D already. The dvd is available in the US as well. I saw it, and frankly, it was better than the series! :thumb:

If a LA Sailor Moon is done how would the charactors change from like street clothes to their Sailor Suits. Should it be like it was done in the anime or something like the Power Rangers or a flash of light or maybe something like Star Trek.
I would think there would be comedy, drama, tenderness and friendship if it was all done right. I would hope that someone would do quality control when producing the movie so that it will be a good movie.

There was a live action Parasite Eve done is Japan as well. It was ok, but I think if they redid it here they could make something very interesting.

Like any other tv series there are both pros and cons about doing a big screen version of any anime series.
As far as Evangelion itself goes, one of the problems with it would be finding young
actresses who could do justice to Asuka and Rei.
