Um...I don't subscibe to Entertainment Weekly.

But I did hear about that "Stripperella" thing. It seems to be yet another attempt to make more "adult" cartoons.

heres the EW story...

A cartoon figure so curvaceous she makes Jessica Rabbit look like Olive Oyl, Stripperella brings new meaning to CRIME BUSTING. Her secret identity: exotic dancer Erotica Jones. Her not-so-secret identity: Pamela Anderson, who inspired Marvel Comics guru Stan Lee to create the pole-dancer-at-night, crime-fighter-later-at-night character she voices. Stripperella puts the squeeze on supervillains like Queen, a cyberterrorist who's ''not to be rubbed the wrong way.'' (Admits Anderson, ''There couldn't be any more innuendos in a half hour.'') The ''V.I.P.'' veteran persuaded fiancé Kid Rock to write the show's theme (''It wasn't hard -- I told him he was doing it'') and even works her pet cause into the scripts: ''Wherever I can stick in an animal rights message, I will.'' So is Stripperella all natural? ''She's been surgically enhanced, but she'll never tell,'' Anderson teases. ''She won't make the same mistake as me.''

What a description. Sounds like the cartoon has all the subtlety and wit of a Benny Hill show (without the class).
The scientific method," Thomas Henry Huxley once wrote, "is nothing but the normal working of the human mind." That is to say, when the mind is working; that is to say further, when it is engaged in corrrecting its mistakes. Taking this point of view, we may conclude that science is not physics, biology, or chemistry—is not even a "subject"—but a moral imperative drawn from a larger narrative whose purpose is to give perspective, balance, and humility to learning.

Uck, I even saw a clip of that nasty show at work. Thanks for the heads up Saint. We always need to be on our guard for trash like this, although it's hard to imagine anyone could be "innocently drawn in" with a title like Striperella. What will they think of next </sarcasm> :rolls_eye

:( I never would have thought that Stan Lee would have done something like that...don't get me wrong, I don't know anything about the guy except the Marvel bit, but...I just lost a whole lot of respect for him. :stressed:

Yeah, this one is just. . .we NEED that vomit smiley.

The thing that annoys me is that people *call* it anime. In the technical sense, since it is animated, it is, but in the accurate sense it is not even anime because it's an American-produced work. I mean, there's more than enough *real* anime hentai/ecchi in existence already and I'm not excusing it: I think "Colorful" and "Golden Boy" are just as disgusting as "Stripperella."

I'm just saying that "Stripperella" is an American ecchi/hentai production, not anime in anything but the technical sense, and I'd hate to see actual anime with legitimate plots and storylines but that definitely isn't kids' fare (like Trigun or Cowboy Bebop or unedited Ruruoni Kenshin or whatever) piled in with it by uninformed people.

I hope that made some sense. My brain's kind of fried from this miserable weather we've been having here-it's been 90+ degrees every day for almost this entire week. :dizzy:

I read about this from Anime News Network. This is a really bad blow to anime. I mean that's the thing that scares me if everone thinks that all anime is porn were all in big trouble! :sniffle: Well like today I was talking about the Animatrix with my friend and he let me go on about it and then he said he bought it already it scared me cuz my friend is my pastors son. So now my pastor has a bad mentally about anime now! But the thing is they found the most un-offenceve things about it to be offended by. My friend even asked me why I watched it he said do I like watching porn :red: I felt so bad like I don't have enough girls at my church that think I'm a pervert to begin with. But I didn't know about that other stuff in the Animatrix cuz I skipped right to A Detective Story. But still I don't think the other one's were really that bad. I didn't see any nudity thats why I don't understand when he said porn I thought he was talking about the first short with the sword fight. But he told me no dude there is so much nudity me dad turned it off after the second one. But I did not see any thing that I thought was that bad! :bang: :sniffle:

That must of been a resent article. heh, I only go to that place about once every day after lunch.

But here are your two main stereotypes about anime: anime is for kids or anime is all hentai.

I would rather people think of anime as for kids rather than another form of porn. For one thing I get tired of people asking me if look at hentai. It's alot easier for people to look as something they believe is kiddy than if they think it's porn (not trying to decieve people. It's just what people would find easier accept).

Here's an article from anime nation explaining why you could never have true anime outside of Japan.
http://www.animenation.net/news/askjohn.php?id=706

I happen to agree with John on this one.

Well, it's getting late and I'm probably sounding as out of it as MillyFan feels.

I think a lot of people think "anime" just means "animated" when in reality the working definition is much more cultural. For that matter, if that's their definition, then I guess South Park qualifies as well.

I agree with you: the definition, as I use it at least, is more cultural.

I think "anime" specifically refers to Japanese-originating animation, or more loosely could refer to American works that share a heavy similarity to such works (i.e., the artwork is very similar, the style is similar, etc. . .) but I do NOT think that the term should be used to refer to things like "Family Guy," "South Park," "Stripperella," and whatever other mindless, plotless spew that is being served up for the 18-25 male audience.

Actually, I'm relatively certain "anime" only means animated works. But for all intents and purposes, it's used as such things from Japan. Or, like MillyFan said, stuff that is done in a similar style.

Critics argue that the word "anime" is used in Japan to refer to all animation regardless of national origin or stylistic character; therefore the word "anime" should also be used in America to refer to all Japanese style animation. This argument, however, is based upon a fatal fallacy. In fact, Japanese natives do not use the word "anime" to refer to all animation. It's true that in Japan the word "anime" is sometimes used to denote American produced animation. But equally as often, Japanese natives, and especially Japanese employees of the animation industry, refer to American animation as "American anime" and Japanese anime as just "anime." Japanese natives, especially Japanese industry professionals, do make distinctions between their native Japanese produced animation and foreign animation imported from South Korea or Europe or America.

see the word anime orginates in japan anime is what the japanese call there animation anime means japanese animtion if you look it up in the online websters dictionary its says any type of animation orginating in or from japan.

this can only mean the world will be ending soon.

i knew this cartoon was going to come out but i had no idea stan lee was going to be accosiated with it. i am extreamly disapointed, and hope that it dies quickly and becomes one of those shows that only lasted 3 episodes.

I read an interview with Stan Lee over at a news site. The interviewer asked him why he decided to do "Stripperella" when most of his previous works were considered "family friendly."

He stated that he believed Stripperella was "family friendly" but for a "slightly older family."

Stripperella, heh. That's funny.

In a very vomit inducing way. Image

God willing, people will blam this thing straight back down to hell where it belongs. Henatia ruins the image of Anime and paints us legit fans as pervs.

I happen to get tempted from it, being a former Hentai/yaoi fan. So i'm staying as far away from this as possible.

Yeah, when I saw the commercials for it, I lost all respect for Stan Lee. I've always been more of a DC fan than a Marvel fan, but still...Stripperella seems a bit below him.

Maybe it will be cancelled after only a short time but that's unfortunatly not likely.

Really? Shows with lame sounding premises like Stripperella have been cancelled with less than five episodes. I think it's very likely for Stripperella to be cancelled along with the other adult cartoons on TNN depending on how bad the ratings are.
