You should do precisely what you want. I went with friends to Junior Prom and I loved it. If you feel like you wouldn't enjoy that kind of atmosphere, you shouldn't go. I went with a guy to my Senior Prom, but he was just a friend because I wasn't dating anyone at the time. I liked Junior Prom better because it was more laid back.

The picnic sounds like fun though- I enjoyed my senior picnic/ice cream social a lot.

I went to prom without a date. But I was in a group.

It sucked.

My photo was of me, alone. That also sucked.

Prom has the potential to be really special or really disasterous and normally it's one or the other. The good news is: it's all what you make it.

I had what could have been the worst prom experience ever. My date/best friend/long-time romantic interest basically ditched me for a girl he'd hooked up with on a trip to the UK and chose to put his preference toward his physical relationship with her on display right in the middle of the dance floor. Luckily, I didn't see it or I'm pretty sure there would have been no recovery for me but I certainly had to hear about it all night long from every other person present.
I guess I just decided that I didn't want to remember that night like it was a total tragedy and let the several hundred dollars I put into it go to waste. So I stayed with my friends all night and we danced like we didn't have a clue about the whole thing.

Just remember you get out what you put in with these kinds of things. You can turn anything around by laughing with your friends.
"So David said to Michal, "It was before the LORD, who chose me instead of your father and all his house, to appoint me ruler over the people of the LORD, over Israel. Therefore I will play music before the LORD. And I will be even more undignified than this, and will be humble in my own sight. But as for the maidservants of whom you have spoken, by them I will be held in honor."

2 Samuel 6: 21&22

"I am going to take this bucket of water and pour it on the flames of hell, and then I am going to use this torch to burn down the gates of paradise so that people will not love God for want of heaven or fear of hell, but because He is God."

I'm normally not a dance person - I grudingly agreed to go to Prom last year and tried to keep positive about it, went with a bunch of friends, didn't get horribly dressed up (a dress and some light makeup, my version of going all out. xD), didn't take a limo, and still had a really great time. And surprise surprise, I'm actually going again this year.

Like everyone else has said, do what YOU want, but don't simply rule out prom because it's what the "preps" do, or because everyone else is going to it, or because you don't have a date. If you think it can be fun if you decide to go, then you already have it in you to make it fun; conversely, a negative attitude about it flat out will probably make prom miserable.

Aw, I took a photo of myself alone. It was fun! XD You don't have to share the camera that way! (I kid, I kid) XD I didn't have a date either, but if you think about it, it frees you up to dance with whoever you want, and you can just have fun with your friends, instead! I would almost reccommend going without a date if you're confident enough. I had a blast! :thumb:
