fashion fads you... never really understood^^

Postby Tenshi no Ai » Fri May 12, 2006 10:43 pm

Ok, just as a note if you're the type of person that has your own unique style and "fashion trends are dumb", alright, but this is for people for just... never understand certain fanshion trends that are or were around... well, whenever (more directly looking at stuff that you've personally been around and seen people wear).

For me, I always base a lot of my stuff on what the "preps" at school would wear. (Our definition of "preps" around here was the "popular" people that partied every weekend and ALWAYS kept up with the latest fashion fads).

So here's a few things that I... never really got^^

- long house coat sweater thingies (my friends and I always made fun of them... so odd being based off a hosecoat :/ I just never really got the popularity of them since EVERYONE wore them in middle school :/)

- visors (golf got cool before? Another middle school fad...)

- bandana thingies that girls wore on their head (Once again from middle school^^)

- JUMBO sized sunglasses (a recent thing, but I think it looks odd with people that have small heads^^ That is, from what I've seen with celebs in mags :/ I have a small head so don't plan on getting them any time soon, besides TOO BIG!!)

- sequence on clothes/purses/etc. (I personally think this looks odd too^^ Honestly, give me rinestones on stuff any day! Sequence just makes it look... I dunno cheap or something^^ Reminds me of arts and crafts in elementary school :/)

All I can think of at the moment... Yeah fads come and go and I guess middle school (if applicable) is the HUGEST school stage of trying to fit in, so why not wear what everyone else wears to conform? Sometimes I wonder if people get it because it's popular, or since everyone else wears it :/ If I ever buy trendy clothes/accesories/whatever it's only because I actyally LIKE it. Of course, if it's a fad that's not in anymore, only if I actually disslike it for whatever reason will I stop too^^ Just in our town, we don't have alot of shops here so unless you go out of town is where you can actually get a unique look... Back in middle school, it was ALWAYS a whole ton of people running around wearing the exact same thing (I bring the housecoat thing back up again here^^).

Gaucho pants.
Sure, a lot of girls say they're very comfortable, and I'm sure they are...but from behind...? Eep.

I did sweatercoats, albeit I got a black one on sale at wal-mart five years after the trend started. So it was pretty much outta style by then. I just thought it was comfy, infact, it's still in my closet, although it's all scruffy and safety-pinned now ^^;

-Those silly tie over shirt things that go over tank tops. But then again, mebbe that's because I am decidedly rectangular, which doesn't work well with the look.

-Tapered skin tight legging jeans

Pink...just so very much pink...

I'm not a fan of those HUGE purses that you comfortably store a family of ten in. I just don't like big bags unless I'm sneaking food in (bad me!) or traveling. Otherwise keys, a wallet, and a compact mirror do not need that much space.

Naked. Something is going to pop out of these little risky outfits. Booty shorts might turn into a thong and someone is bound to catch a cold. Don't want to dress like a nun but be practical.

Spandex under shorts or minnie skirts. It's in now, but I wish it'd just go. I really don't get it.
Be Thou my Vision, O Lord of my heart;
Naught be all else to me, save that Thou art
Thou my best Thought, by day or by night,
Waking or sleeping, Thy presence my light.

Be Thou my Wisdom, and Thou my true Word;
I ever with Thee and Thou with me, Lord;
Thou my great Father, I Thy true son;
Thou in me dwelling, and I with Thee one.

Be Thou my battle Shield, Sword for the fight;
Be Thou my Dignity, Thou my Delight;
Thou my soul’s Shelter, Thou my high Tower:
Raise Thou me heavenward, O Power of my power.

Riches I heed not, nor man’s empty praise,
Thou mine Inheritance, now and always:
Thou and Thou only, first in my heart,
High King of Heaven, my Treasure Thou art.

High King of Heaven, my victory won,
May I reach Heaven’s joys, O bright Heaven’s Sun!

Thongs. I'm anti-thong. They are gross and I have seen too many people wearing thongs that show from the back of their pants when they sit. I don't want to see that.

If you have to wear thongs with pants and they show, you need new pants.

Mothers dressing their 5 or 6 year old daughters like a teenager (although teenagers shouldn't be wearing that either!). It's, like, gosh, let them wear princess dresses, not short shorts and belly shirts!
And I hate it when guys wear their pants so low you can see about 7 inches of their boxers. Indecent. Not like Joshua Christopher. :grin:

'Gasp'...I have one pair that won't stay up without a belt. They don't even sit on my hips they're so big :D Go baggy jeans!!!

I don't get the whole chav look over here in England (you guys in the USA might not get what I'm talking about). Some of them wear jogging bottoms that creep a third of the way up their leg with their socks pulled all the way up. They then put burberry bandanas over their face and take photos of themselves with baseball bats. The most ridiculous criminals in the world lol XD

Does anybody remember stirrup pants? GAH. My mom made me wear those when I was little, and I hated them.

Also, what about slouch socks? Remember how people would wear two or three pairs to get some multi-layered thing going on? e_e

Some people in my highschool used to wear those calf-length shorts with knee-length tube socks. Sometimes with sandals instead of tennis shoes. o_o

I also don't like thongs. I tried it once. Walking around all day feeling like you have a wedgie is NOT fun.

There are several:
1. Mini skirts over leggings. Either wear pants, or wear the skirt (just make the skirt longer) not both.
2. "swimsuits that might as well not exist, since they are so skimpy" In my best friends words. "Just go to a nude beach" it really doesn't make sense.
3. The "destroyed" look. Why buy jeans for $50 that are ripped, painted on, and patched up. I can do that myself for about $15. Hey, I already have jeans that have that look. I just can't wear them to school. . .
4. the "layered" look. Especially when girls where it when it's sweltering hot out. Doesn't it get uncomfortable?
5. boys that wear pink. when a child is born, boys have blue and girls have pink. Why can't we just keep it that way.
6. stilletto heels, or as my father calls them, hooker heels. Don't be uncomfortable, if you don't have to be. And as for the little people (like me) be proud of your shortness. It's nothing to be ashamed of!!
7. see-through shirts. Isn't that the very reason to wear a shirt? To cover up?
8. *edit* mother's that dress like teenagers. Girls need a mother, not a bestfriend. And plus, by the time their at that age. Some of it is a little gross to see. It looks trashy, not cute. (It was never cute when they were 16 or 17 either)
I think that's it. I'll probably come up with more, though. . .

Heh Yeah... mine already have rips at the knees that were naturally made. I remember when my friend got one pair and we were like "...yeah...." :/

Reminds me... remember those random bleched-stained jeans?? I know some still exist but not AS bad as before and my friends and I were like "C'mon, we can make our own by rolling around in bleach!" I personally though those were funny looking^^

Kokoro Daisuke wrote:Those pants with stuff like "BOOTY" and "CUTE" and "PRINCESS" on the butts. What the heck, people? D:

Oy... my autnie gave me a pair once that said "Royal Pain" on it and I didn't like it so gave it to my mom, who still uses it as grub pants. I do have pj pants that say Hello Kitty on them, but don't really wea it because this size XS, is HUGE on me :/

Another thing that annoys me is girly saying on t-shirts. :/ I'll admit sometimes I get a laugh out of some of the guys' ones with their indirect sayings on it, but girl's ones are dumb. I mean how cool is it to wear shirts saying stuff like "I've got your b/f!" "Dump him!" "Over him!" "Hot sexy chick!" And then there was that fad last year of cowboy shirts that were inspired by a certain country song...

Heh one thing I find funny nowadays, is how long shirts is in. I like 'em^^ Feels like your back's covered and if you bend over, it still covers you^^ Feels like just yesterday in middle school those belly shirts were in :/ ....now they all wear the long ones :/

FURRY BOOTS! I mean, I just don't understand why it's cute to wear a polar bear on each foot. . . It's especially terrible when girls wear mini skirts with the boots.
Every year in Uganda, innumerable children simply. . . disappear. These children all stolen under the cover of darkness from their homes and impressed into the guerilla armies of the LRA [Lord's Resistance Army]. In the deserts of Uganda, they are forced to witness the mindless slaughter of other children until they themselves can do nothing but kill. Kill. These children, generally ranging from ages 5-12, are brainwashed into murdering in the name of the resistance and into stealing other children from their beds to suffer the same fate.

Because of this genocide of innocence, hundred and hundreds of children live every night sleeping in public places miles from their homes, because they know that if the do not-- they will disappear. They will become just another number in this genocide to which the international community has chosen to turn a blind eye. They will become, in affect, invisible-- Invisible Children.

But there are those who are trying to fight against this slaughter of Uganda's children. They fight to protect these "invisible children." Please, help them help a country full of children who know nothing by fear. Help save the innocence. For more information concerning how you can help and how you can get an incredible video about this horrific reality, visit the Invisible Children home page.

That trend confuses me too. I mean, boots are supposed to keep water, snow, slush, sludge and other nasty things off of your feet. I imagine the fur would have to get really icky in a very short period of time, especially when you consider what happens when dogs get wet.

You stole mine. I saw them everywhere when I lived in California. Southern California... and in the middle of the desert. Why wear eskimo boots in 90 degree weather? Unfortunately, there were also people 40+ wearing them, which multiplied the disturbing quality by a factor of 10. :shake: Oh well. People will wear what they will wear.

Also, something incredibly silly to me is when people in Southern California would be wearing full winter gear in the middle of the day (when it's quite warm). Just carry a jacket or sweater... you don't need a coat, scarf hat and gloves -- it's warm out!

Heh it was funny cause I wanted a brown pair of pants/jeans for a while and FINALLY found a pair (this was a couple years ago, mind you). Then several months later all of a sudden it came out as a trend colour and EVERYONE was wearing brown! (Mostly the preps, of course. As I said, they HAVE to get the newest fads right away^^). I just like brown and think it goes good with a lot of stuff (like when teal was a huge colour last fall and stores put it with the brown). Heck, I'm wearing a brown t-shirt right now!

:lol: Sorta funny trivia - those originated in Australia. They're supposed to be sheepskin boots called Ugg Boots - Ugg being the company that makes them, I presume. I used to have a whole bunch of them when I was younger because I have family in Australia, and they don't have heating in their house. So when we went to visit over summer vacation (their winter), my mom bought me a bunch of Ugg boots to keep my feet warm, and dang they worked.

XD I've long since outgrown my ugg boots, but let me tell you, it's WEIRD to see people in sunny California wearing them around. Especially 'cause I bet they're not real sheep skin. >O!
