Monster

I read Mr. SmartyPants's review to Monster and I'm intrigued. I searched for other reviews and I think this might be one of my new favorite animes. I love the fact that this has virtually no fillers. Now, I have questions:

1) Has anyone here seen the entire series? If so, is the whole series very good from beginning to finish?
2) I doubt anyone knows this, but is there a soon-to-be license for this? I'd like to see a dub.
3) Which is better? The anime or the manga?

And that's it. I sure hope I can buy DVDs to watch it in English. (I like seeing dubs before I see subs; I like both though)

1. Yes. AND YES the whole series is good from beginning to end. Some episodes are "sort of filler" but they do add more to the story. It was simply amazing.
2. The mang was recently licensed. Volumes 1 and 2 are available. I suspect the anime to be licensed soon. Fansubs of Monster are available. You may also want to check out Urasawa's other work: 20th Century Boys.
3. The manga and anime are identical. I say the Anime is superior because of the cinemetagraphic elements and sounds. Plus the music gives it a better suspenseful feeling to it.

Tom you silly boy  Monster is supposed to start out "okay" in the beginning. It's not an attention grabber. It's supposed to start out slow and gradual.

Oh, okay. Well thanks for the encouragement. I think I`ll finish Flames of Recca before heading into it.

I just hope for two things:

1) It should be licensed as soon as possible so I can buy some dub/sub DVDs.
2) Said DVDs should contain at least 4 episodes each (because of the length of the series).

BTW, I have another question:

I've seen the opening and I'm wondering if there are any different openings with the same song. Is there different openings with the same song? Does that make sense?

From the review:

Opening Theme:
"Grain" by Kuniaki Haishima
Ending Theme:
#1: "For The Love of Life" by David Sylvian (eps 1-33)
#2: "Make It Home" by Fujiko Heming (eps 34-74)

There is only 1 opener and 2 endings.

yeah. the Monster manga is an excellent manga. i personally think that 20th Century Boys is better though. it seems more interesting and the plot is a lot more intriguing. there are a wider cast of characters and a lot more suspense and mystery in 20th Century Boys. boy. i wish they came out with an anime for this manga. that'd be flippin awesome.

Actually, there IS a wide cast of characters in Monster. They are just never together in the beginning. As the story grows, more and more characters are introduced. Infact many episodes barely focus on tenma, rather they focus on other characters that relate to the central villan.

I do perfer Monster, as it is more attached to reality than 20th Century Boys. I saw Monster as a more frightning tale, as 20th CB was more "woah O.o thats cool and weird"

Till you start it. Then realize that you love it

I didn't want it to end. I loved every bit of the time I had watching it.

I've seen the whole thing. It is a really good series, I really enjoyed it. There wasn't a lot of filler to it, but the ever-growing cast of characters that you meet left me confused after a while cause I waited sometimes months for the next episode to come out when they were first being subbed. The 74 is quite a length, but once you get into the plot, you will find yourself wanting to see more, and almost wanting it not to end. It's a very good anime that makes you think.

I know. Thanks, though. I was asking if there was different opening animations to the song "Grain". Just curious. Do I make sense now? ^^;

I just can't imagine how this show could go on for 74 ep.! It makes me want to see it. And I should get those two manga vol. when I get the chance.
