maturing on the forums

Postby Zilch » Thu May 04, 2006 4:12 pm

So I randomly decided to check out all the threads I've posted in on Jam Session. I do get that bored.

I've been on these forums for roughly three, almost fourish years now, and it's amazing how much of a little annoying musically-bigoted emo turd I was. How did you people put up with me? I mean, I would slap me around if I met me.

Anyhoo, those of you who have been here a few years, have you noticed differences in the way you've matured over the last few years?

I was reading one of my very first forum posts on an old forum a while back, and I shocked myself. It was really sad. Bad grammar, no punctuation, and overall stupidity were some of my highlights.

That pretty much sums up my first year at CAA.

Well, when I first came here I felt pretty... ignored. Didn't post ALL the time, but quite a bit, and I never could figure out why some of my topics NEVER got commented on *shrugs*. So I shyed away... of course, I did get a couple topic locked when I first came for different reasons^^ (One was of a drawing I did which was a nude outline, as an artpiece and all and undetailed, but didn't realize that even that wasn't a good thing to post^^)

Came back to the forums, and I guess something changed since people started paying attention to me somewhat :/ Heh guess I never went to the chat before either^^ Even a couple months ago got a couple topics locked due to controversy (I didn't think it would be a problem, but mods know best^^)

aaand... here I am now :/

When I first posted here, I was happy, upbeat, imaginitive, creative, and wrote plays.

Now I hardly come here at all.

Aw, that's kinda sad, because you're really nice. The little bit I've talked to you at least. You should come in the chat more. We're all about solidarity and things like that in there. It's a magical place.

Oh I do every once and a while now^^ Usually if I have time to sit and chat for a little bit. But when I first came, didn't even realize there WAS a chat (well noticed it, but always forgot it existed :/)

I do think I've matured a bit since I first started posting here. Attempting correct grammar and punctuation has always been my thing (and lack thereof one of my pet peeves) but my overall attitude seems to have improved a bit.

Was I a total weirdo when I first joined. Prior joining CAA, I was involved in two other forums which were MUCH more lenient on stupid behavior...

I've matured, definitely. I don't look up my old posts because I don't like feeling extreme amounts of shame and self-consciousness.

I'm wondering if I've dematured... I get this general feeling my intelligence has steadily declined since High School...

Perhaps not... I don't know...

My opinions definately change over time, though... For better or for worse, the only thing I have to base that on is whatever I feel at the time...

Oh wow. I remember posting a topic in the Jam Session about my friend not liking heavy metal, me not knowing what to do, and if it's ok for Christians to listen to heavy metal. It's been gravedigged several times over the 2 years. I just laugh at that now ::laughs while looking at Hitokiri's music choices now haha:: Boy was I naive.

I had alot of spelling mistakes because I typed reeeaaaallly fast and gave no heed to where my fingers hit. I remember looking at my one "Bishies and Bishoujo Contest" thing I did and my gosh, I was ashamed I actually typed like that.

I guess you can say I have matured.

Edit: Abd apparently, I still type fairly bad heh heh heh.

Well, I haven't been very noob-ish around here, but I remember at first I was nervous; I thought everyone was the extremely uptight conservative Christian who would persecute any foolishness I might post, even in the Goof Off forum!

Luckily, that wasn't the case. Anyway, I remember one of my very very first forum posts on pojo.com. :O Oh My Gosh. I'm still shameful. I got seriously bashed for one of my posts of noobery, and never went to a forum again, in fear that everyone was like that. Not really. :B

Wow... that was my first forum too! Back around... 2000/2001 when I was a hardcore Digimon fan^^ I was actually popular on there :/ ...then I went to the spin-off forum from there With the Will and things got worst^^ Anything went on that forum almost, and I got scared from being in a couple topics^^; Oh my... obvious why I left that one^^ (Left Pojo only cause my online friends, the "gang" didn't really come on often :/ And some became jerks when they became mods^^ Reminds me of that famous psychology prison study a little^^)

I was fortunate enough to join at a slightly older age. I think I was 18 when I first registered with the CAA and I was extremely timid about posting for the first year or so. I think the only real difference I can see is that I'm probably too comfortable with posting and I'm slightly better at expressing myself now. At least I *think* I'm better at expressing myself, maybe I'm just in denial about my tendency to natter-

Now, on the other hand, if we could find some of my old Redwall RP posts from back in the day, I am sure that I would be suitably humiliated. My older character profiles were bad enough, I mean, what sort of name is Serenity Greyback? And since when do badgers have natural navy stripes?!?? *reins in urge to rant*

I'm sure I'll be embarrased by all of my current posts if I ever get around to maturing

My first forum was about a computer game called Zoo Tycoon. I was one of it's first members. If I remember correctly, t's been 4 years since I joined there but at the time, I had some of the most posts. Now there are people there with lie...10,000 posts and stuff. I just lost intrest but I do pop up there now and then and they remember me which is pretty cool.

I was very n00by when I started but I learned quickly so that I knew how to act when I joined forums later on.

It's not even funny how much I've matured. Thanks to CAA, I actually have good grammer now. When i first started post on the forums, I was a complete " shrt txt tlkr"... Well, something like that, using 2 instead of "to" , you know, that kinda stuff.

I don't think I've ever been guilty of the bad grammar thing but I was a serious n00b when I came here.
To the contrary of what my post count would indicate, I've been around for awhile. The whole 3-digit count is largely in thanks to my rp'ing around these parts. I think I actually went months without posting outside the RPG arena. I think once the administration decided to make RPG posts count as real posts and I had around 1000...for about three days. Craziness.
Now you all get to share in my ramblings and bogus opinions. :) Yaaaayyy!

Who needs "Hooked on Phonics" when you're hooked on CAA? :thumb:

Anyways, I know I've matured as a person since I began coming online. Back in October of '04, I joined kingdomhearts2.net for the purposes of fanart, and was unwittingly introduced to yaoi fangirls. XD; Well, I would get into big debates with these people; my first two or three posts regarding these pictures were flames, and thankfully, I began writing comprehensible posts after these three. XD I remember getting so frustrated with the people I debated with, and a lot of times, I recall responding in anger, rather than being calm and collected. However, over the course of a year, I became more articulate in what I wanted to say, and being on that fanart comment board actually drew me closer to God, as I began to read my Bible more and more. I joined other forums during the time I was at KH2.net, but I matured the most in my time on that site. I left the site just recently (back in January? Maybe...), as I was finally ready to move away from that site for good.

I joined CAA in May of '05, and so I was already much more well-acquainted with how forums work, how to act around other forum members, etc. I guess I felt welcome pretty quickly here; the chat can do that to a person, you know. CAA has still helped me to grow a lot, though, spiritually, emotionally, and grammatically, if you will. XD All I can say is, after almost one full year, it's been a blessing to be here! :thumb:

I came from an unmonitored listgroup hosted by AnimEigo, and with the amount of anti-Christians that were on it, I was used to brawling in flame wars.

...so right out of the gate I step into a gravedug thread on religion and managed to insult some long time members and mod UC Pseudonym over some posts they had written over a year before (I was always bad at checking the date of posts). So after that I overcompensated, with all sorts of "I hope I'm not offending anyone by saying this" disclaimers.

I think now I'm more balanced with my friends and mortal enemies ( ;) ) and understand how to fit in.

Well, I lurked here for a good two years before I decided to join, so I'm fairly certain I learned most of the things I needed to, before joining. Though I like to think I had a pretty good grasp on the English language beforehand (I like to think, anyway).

One of my early threads is a little embarassing, but eh, what can I say? I was very bored. ^^

I was a bit head-shy after being abused on another forum that had next to nothing for modding, (but thankfully is no longer in existance) and was rather hesitant at first, and over-eager to please and be completely inoffensive. I also didn't capitalize.

I would like to think that I have settled in and can maturely express myself without reservation.

I've also noticed that people respond to my posts a lot more now that I capitalize. heh, gee, wonder why?

Yeah, a while back I looked up some of my earliest post, and it was a bit embarrassing. I was nervous, and more effete than normal.

Yes, you read that right. Anyway, I've relaxed a bit (read 'a lot') in the intervening years.

Hmm... It's been two years and I think I've matured. Not so much in conduct as in attitude, although I hope I've matured somewhat in both. This is the very first forum that I've joined and I think I might be starting to get the hang of it. I could probably use some self-control in avoiding theological issues, but I tend to voice myself, since those things are very important to me. All and all, I think it's been an enjoyable experience and I hope to enjoy the years to come. :thumb:

I've definatally matured in the Jam Sessions forum. I read some of my old posts and my view on music was a bit 'gack'. I tend not to post just for postings sake so much any more (in other words just wanting to be part of the conversation). Some of my Goof Off posts are pretty nooby still, but what do you expect, thats me :P
