Hats Off To Final Fantasy Advent Children!!

Postby USSRGirl » Sun Apr 30, 2006 7:02 pm

Just saw it today and let me say...I am in 7th Heaven (pun intended). I laughed...I cried...I screamed in an excited fangirl-like way. Despite the somewhat non-audience friendly plot, for a movie to do that to a commie like me has to be good. Beautiful graphics, great actions, cute ending. I HIGHLY reccomend it to everyone out there!!!! Especially if you're an FF fan-freak like me (I know...what took me so dang long to see it, huh?)

And of course Reno.......ah........:: Dies ::........

But why, oh why, did Cloud HAVE to smash Reno's head in door and lock him outside during the first few scenes of the movie? AND kick the door again to add insult to injury? :shady:

In anycase...I just feel the need to proclaim the fact that......

I LOVE FF:AC!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well, I don't think Cloud would have liked much of any dealings whatsoever with the Turks on account of them previously having tried to kill his party repeatedly.

I thought the movie was mediocre at best. The story was pretty bad. Where did Kadaj and the others come from? They just.. appeared

They also had some funky Oedipus Complex "KASAAN!!!!!"

I was highly dissapointed how they gave the most screentime to only Tifa, Cloud, and Vincent (and the Turks) but none for the other characters! I was expecting to see Barret and Cid, Yuffie, etc to have their own awesome battles.

Guess not

The ending was pretty lame too. A pool party? Come on... Well it is a pool party that can cure like cancer I guess... but it was still mediocre

Yup, best movie ever.

Got to say, though, wish I couldn've seen some chocobo's....(When goin to Reno, Cloud passes a sign saying <- Chocobo Farm)

Cid`s voice over was done by Larry the Cable Guy, right? XD

Seriously, I liked the movie alot as well but thought they could`ve handled the plot much better.

And they overused cellphones. It always confused me necause I thought the guy was answering Tifa`s phone for her after the fight after saying: "She`s not here".

As for where kadaj appeared I think they were just the three suriviving hooded members of the Norther Cave. Remember those guys? That`s my theory, anyway.

Tom Dincht`s Two Lines that he hated with a passion:

"Stop Crying."

"Dilly Dally Shilly Shally."

As for lines, one single part reminded me of the ending to Chronicles of Narnia:

*After Lucy heals Edmund*
Aslan: There are others wounded.

FF7:AC

*Cloud after healing Denzel*
Red XIII: There are others with the stigma.

Mom likes Reno and Sephiroth best. She said Cloud has too many issues where as Sephy has one: he hates everything and Reno's a smart aleck.

The silver haired trio were left over Sephiroth clones. Remember the hooded folks with the tattoos? Jenova is like a starfish..it has a bunch of pieces is can shoot off and then tries to regather them. I HATED that "Dilly dally shilly shally" thing too. The first time I heard it I thought Tifa had gone insane. The plot DID need quite a few touch ups. If you haven't played the game it would be really confusing. The sequences were a bit odd. It was hard to tell what was a flashback and what wasn't, particularly in the scene where Cloud is in the forest with Vincent and Marlene then it cuts back to the part where he's talking to Tifa and the Turks at 7th Heaven. And why are all the villians magically back to life with no explaination what so ever? You see Tseng's ghost dissolve into the lifestream during the game and Rufus gets incinerated by Weapon.

So...as a movie critic...I would say it sucked. As an FF geek...it's one of my favorite movies. ^-^ It had many plus points and the plot had a cute message. It seemed slightly like a mix of Christian with Shinto themes. They might not have intended it, but the whole "drinking from the good and living water while refraining from the corrupting waters of temptation" seemed to send a good message despite the usual Ying-Yang lifestream thing.

Two other things: 1. I didn't see the Chocobos sign! I'll have to look for it next time!
2. Kicking Reno behind a door was NOT funny!!! He's not a smart aleck...it's just hard for him to be around people of abyssmally lower intelligence than him. And don't ever call Reno a peon! Wow! He got reaaally angry there! :0P

I found reno getting kicked behind a door actually quiet amusing.Actually he is a smart aleck big time (in my oppion of course). I was kinda upset he didn't say Yo at all i mean come on he said that so many times in the game.

Grubb, the "yo" thing is only in the Japanese version. Kinda a shame. Apparently in the begininng when Tifa picks up the phone she goes: "I remember you, yo." In mockery of Reno's...speech habits.

I did NOT find the door thing funny!! It was a cruel and unusual way to greet an old friend! Not to mention dirty and under-handed. >.< ...I hate you Cloud...

You and I apparently differ greatly in who we consider friends. Anyone who kidnapped a girl I liked and then tried to kill me, I wouldn't consider my friend. That's just me, though. And apparently Cloud feels the same as I do.

Reno and Rude were definately my favorite characters. Especially Rude. He's cool and quiet. And gets bashed on the head/shoulders by a metal beam. Ahhh good comical relief.

I guess I will term this the official Advent Children thread now that our other discussion has run its course. However, I'm not going to repeat anything I said there. Which means I have fairly little to say other than this administrative note.

Regarding the Turks: You do realize that Reno and Rude were pretty much comic relief in this movie, right? Hitting each other, the sunglasses, their manner of fighting... almost everything about their characters was for humor purposes only.

Yeah, I do realize that... I mean, they got their butts handed to them when they faced Yazoo and Loz, Reno kept smacking Rude in the face with his baton, and Rude's reaction to when Reno stepped on his sunglasses was just classic, but all that doesn't take away from a simple fact for me.

Rude's awesome...

NO Pseudonym, I was actually not aware of that fact. I was watching the movie with two of my friends who hadn't played FF7 but knew a bit about it. Knowing how...obssessed...I am with Reno, they almost believed me when I told them that he was one of the main heroes of the movie. About two minutes into the movie he gets shoved behind a door in a rather embarrassing manner. Now I'll never hear the end of it!!! >.< OOOOOOH...I still say Reno was one of the more heroic, non-COMICAL characters in the movie. At least he TRIED to save Denzel and the kids!

Side note: Apparently Denzel's official back story is that his parents died in the Sector 7 pillar crash. Although, it never implies that in the movie. If that were the case then..................uh.....What a horrible and unfortunate ACCIDENT! Ya never know when one of those things is just gonna..."accidently"...tip over squashing millions of innocent citizens.

Hey Nat, doesn't it say ya gotta FORGIVE in order to be forgiven??? Huh? Huh? Besides...Tseng was mostly responsible for kidnapping Aries. Reno was simply doing his job like the good wittle commie-cutie that he is.

Also...was it me, or was kinda like...standing right next to the TNT with a stupid smirk on his face towards the end of the movie? How did he survive the explosion? I guess when you've jumped off ten story pillars, crashed planes full of mutants into the middle of the sea and swam to shore, and escaped the destruction of Midgar by way of a sewer passage, you learn a few survivalist techniques...

While I share your sentiment that Cloud and Reno aren't exactly friends... Reno and Rude did redeem themselves near the end of the game... they were about to fight Cloud and Co. for the umpteenth time... then they just decided to quit and go home. That made it clear for me that they really weren't up for messing with everybody like that. They were just doing their job, which they didn't like in the first place, then quit when they got sick of it.

Maybe I'm reading too much into it, though...

...and, for the record, Reno IS a smart-aleck... but that's what I like about him.

You had the choice to fight them but they were wicked hard.

And where did Tseng come from?
I thought Sephiroth killed him. Or was it just an injury and they refused to show him for the rest of the game?
Wow, I had no idea there were this many Reno fangirls. XD I must say, I'm one of them myself. Reno was always my favorite Turk! He's so funny, and yeah, he is a smart-aleck, but that's what makes him so funny! I laughed when Cloud kicked him behind the door, and I've got to agree with Nate, Cloud and Reno were enemies in FF7. It would seem they're more like reluctant allies in this movie, though, but either way, Reno and Rude had me giggling the whole way through.

I have yet to buy this movie on DVD, because I have yet to get a job. This is one of the first "to buy" items on my list, though! Until then, all I can say is that the services of YouTube have kept me quite happy. XD A fun movie, though, even if it wasn't a masterpiece. :thumb:

I am not "A" Reno fangirl. I am "THE" Reno fangirl! I've been madly in love with him since 1998! WAAAAY before any...other...girls jumped on the boat. :: Aims bazooka at the rest of the fangirls :: Stay away from my Reno!!

Tom, but Tseng is scene floating as a ghost through the lifestream in the ancient temple if I remember correctly. And Rufus! He was toasted like a Pilsbury waffle!

Nightshade, the Turks don't actually give up and become peaceniks at the end. They try to attack you, but if you refuse them they'll run because...well...THE CITY IS FALLING APART! They don't got a lot of time. Still...Cloud has attitude issues. >.< He vents his anger on Reno.

I personally loved the movie as well! FFVII was played by myself at a time in my life where for some reason the story really connected with me and some of things I was dealing with at the time. Also of course, the thing was a techonological wonder as far as rpgs/video games go for its time, and Aerith's death was an emotional milestone for video games. I really like just how much the story in AC was centered around Cloud's guilt about Aerith dying and the concepts of forgiveness as well as the simplicity and innocence of children. Yeah, Kadaj and Co. sort of did just "appear" but it's not too hard to believe, as they're pretty much other "test tube" children like Cloud and Sephiroth; obviously the way they cope with that fact is of course reminiscent of Sephiroth, being very anger-driven and violent. For being a sequel and a surprising 1.5 hour length, I thought the story was pretty well done, and it definitely brought back many feelings I associated with VII. In that light, I view it as a major success! Hats off to you Mr. Nomura and Co., and Square-Enix!
