Best Recent Rock Band (Possibly)

I can't figure out which one is best. I need the opinion of many. (Or a couple). Whichever comes first.

o_o Dude, this belongs in Jam Session.

...but as for just straight up rock band, the answer lies with Coheed and Cambria.

He shows much wisdom for one so young.

*Moveth'd.*
Every year in Uganda, innumerable children simply. . . disappear. These children all stolen under the cover of darkness from their homes and impressed into the guerilla armies of the LRA [Lord's Resistance Army]. In the deserts of Uganda, they are forced to witness the mindless slaughter of other children until they themselves can do nothing but kill. Kill. These children, generally ranging from ages 5-12, are brainwashed into murdering in the name of the resistance and into stealing other children from their beds to suffer the same fate.

Because of this genocide of innocence, hundred and hundreds of children live every night sleeping in public places miles from their homes, because they know that if the do not-- they will disappear. They will become just another number in this genocide to which the international community has chosen to turn a blind eye. They will become, in affect, invisible-- Invisible Children.

But there are those who are trying to fight against this slaughter of Uganda's children. They fight to protect these "invisible children." Please, help them help a country full of children who know nothing by fear. Help save the innocence. For more information concerning how you can help and how you can get an incredible video about this horrific reality, visit the Invisible Children home page.

Hey, that second part of my post was pretty wise, too. Coheed and Cambria is better than anything on that poll. The White Stripes and System of a Down are pretty close, but...nothing else. Nothing else.

Coheed and Cambria is one band. They're the best rock band in recent history. You should check them out.

Oh. I hate it when that happens. By the way, I plan to make my own band when I'm older. I don't know what I would call it though.

Hmm, I probably wouldn't call half of those bands recent, it's just that more people are hearing of them now... Creed's broken up anyways..

Tidus20 wrote:By the way, I plan to make my own band when I'm older. I don't know what I would call it though.

Cool. What instrument(s) do you play?

My favorite "recent" band off of that list would probably be Foo Fighters. They have some good stuff.

This young man speaks the truth. Heed his words. Heheh...heed.

Um, yeah. Coheed has some uh...violent lyrics though. So you might want to read up before you put some on in the car with your mom and she has an aneurysm or something. That would be kinda bad.

Ummm.... about half of these bands are not recent. System, RCHP, Blink-182, Slipknot, Green Day, Foo Fighters, and the Strokes have all been around for awhile. I don't really know about the others, though I'm sure a couple of them aren't exactly 'new'.

As far as the best *recent* band, I can't agree with any of these choices. Judging recent as 'debuted in '05 or '06', I'd probably have to go with She Wants Revenge. They bring an interesting combination of pop, rock, goth rock, dance rock, and techno all mixed into one, creating a catchy but dark beat. They're truly amazing.

I will say, though, that while I don't like more than a couple of the bands on this list, Panic! At the Disco gets a thumbs up from me ^_^ (the only other is RHCP)

hm...I voted FOB as far as my taste in music goes, but I dont like them THAT much, especially with the somewhat sexual lyrics. Can't really blast that at home.
Panic! at the Disco appeals to me musically, especially 'I write sins not tragedies', but the lyrics...o.o No good. STUPID good music and their sucky lyrics. aaah.

Lately, i'd recommend The Fray. Granted, it's more laid back Coldplay-like music. I dont know what to recommend that wouldn't corrupt your mind, :-P sorry.

I listened to "She wants Revenge." It seems like they're trying way too hard to be retro. Unfortunately, I can't really say I would consider any of those bands to be the best rock bands. If you ask 10 different people, you'll probably get 10 different opinions. As far as the best band goes, I would probably say either Third Day or Kutless, and not just because their music is good.

I voted for Blink182, but they're broken up now, anyways. Angels and Airwaves (Tom Delonge's new band) is good, though.

But yeah, had there been an "other" option, I would have picked that, and said either Mae, Jimmy Eat World (they're not too recent, but neither is GreenDay or Blink182), or Copeland. Yes.

Yeah, I'll be the first one to say SWR isn't for everyone. You have to have a certain taste in music for them to appeal to you.

Syreth wrote:If you ask 10 different people, you'll probably get 10 different opinions.

I agree 100%.

Tidus20 wrote:I am but a youth. Do not mock my ignorance, for I shall learn.

I didn't mean it that way, sorry. I was just pointing it out. I suppose there wasn't any other way to interpret it than the way you did, and I apologize.

On a side note, if System were still good, I would have voted for them. System's first album is one of the best numetal albums I've ever heard.

In the scope of other good, new bands, 10 Years is a good choice.

Just listen to Wasteland once. You will listen to it again. And then you will listen to it again. And again. And once more. And again. That's what happened to me. I just got fortunate enough that the rest of the album is good, too. Also check out Waking Up, Cast It Out, and Through The Iris while you're there.

Recent bands?

Why ins't Wolfmother, Rock Kills Kid, Editors, Hard Hi, The Subways, Lovedrug, Kasabian, Brandi Carlile (Country, but she's still rocks out), or Hinder on the list? All these bands broke out in the last 5 years and are just getting airplay.

But none of them are on the list so I voted for MY favorite band, TBS.

I wanted to just add current bands but Lovedrug is just too awsome to not be on the list, even if they were around for a while.

No Breaking Benjamin? BOO! I refuse to vote. Or maybe my judgement is clouded because I am addicted to the CD I just got, We Are Not Alone.... And I suppose they could be considered "Metal" technically, since that is what iTunes has labeled it...
