favorite anime deaths (MASSIVE SPOILER ALERT!!!)

Postby rocklobster » Tue Apr 25, 2006 12:07 pm

What are your favorite anime death scenes and why?
Here are some of mine:
Inuyasha: Kikyo. Okay, I never liked her, but I really hated seeing her go. Especially the way she went. That was very touching the way she slowly disintegrated.
Scryed: Cherise. I was quite surprised when she died. It threw me for a loop.
Cowboy Bebop: the kid in episode 5. It almost seemed like a mercy killing.
Rurouni Kenshin: Shishio. Because it was so poetic.
Mod note: Please, use spoler tags, okay, guys? They work like this [*spoiler]put the stuff you don't want anyone to see in here[*/spoiler] Except you HAVE to remove the astericks. Easy, right? Let's do it then! Yay! :P

The best death has to be the death of Gauron in Full Metal Panic. The suspense was nearly unbearable, and Sousuke's reaction to his death was great.

Genius

Air Ep. 12
Misuzu Kamio -- I loved and hated this death scene over all others, because Misuzu was one of the sweetest, most lovable characters in anime history, and her whole monologue during that scene was just heartbreaking.
Fullmetal Alchemist Ep. 25
Maes Hughes -- Not really the death itself, but the funeral. When Elysia's asking her mom not to let them bury her father, that one gets me every time.
Mahoromatic ~Something More Beautiful~ Ep. 13
Mahoro Andou -- though it was destiny that she would eventually die, she went in such a noble and tragic way, all to save the one she loved most.
Elfen Lied Ep. 13
Kurama and Mariko -- after all this time, father and daughter are finally reunited, but with the added strings of knowing that being together would mean they would both die. Incredibly tragic, even moreso through Nana's eyes :(
These are the only ones that I have ever cried on:
Trigun ep. 23 - Wolfwood: He died right after he confessed to his sins and asked for forgiveness.

Fullmetal Alchemist ep. 25 - Hughes: His daughter didn't understand what was happening when the gravediggers covered up the coffin.

Wolf's Rain ep. 27 - Cher: So sudden... And there was that gravity feeling as she fell. She died in Hubb's arms, him trying to be sure about their future. Then, she was let go into the water.

Wolf's Rain ep. 28 - Toboe and Quent: This was done so well. Quent softened up and...dang...I can't describe it. As I said before, this was done so well. All of the deaths after these first three paled in comparison.
What part of SPOILER warnings do you guys not understand? Simply stating that someone dies can be a big spoiler by itself

People, remember to use your spoiler boxes! Phew! Good thing I either know the spoilers my eyes came upon, or it wasn't from a series that I cared about. :/

Having a favorite death scene does not mean you're morbidly fascinated with death necessarily, it just means you have appreciation for the drama and emotion infused with particular scenes. Some are just plain well done, though not necessarily happy.

I must agree with MSP about Death Note. That got me SO mad, but it was well done.

I'll think of others...

Ironically, a lot of my favorite anime deaths really weren't deaths at all, though the circumstances surrounding the occurances spoke volumes about the characters
For example, while Heimdall never truly died in episode 21, the way he rejected Loki's attempt to save him and the manner in which he accepted what was happening is something that constantly lets my little mind take his character and run with it. While I still maintain that MaLoki isn't a serious series, Heimdall's character and the psychology behind him has always been something I enjoy waxing philosophical about.
Also,
In Loveless, the revalation that Seimei faked his brutal murder was one of the best plot twists I've ever had the pleasure of having ruined for me. XD Even though I have yet to read about it myself, just hearing about it was shocking enough
It's a pity that I don't watch more series where people die. The manner in which a character views death, and the way they cope with death (whether it be their own or someone else's) is fascinating to me.

They have both previously been said but so I can practive using the spoiler box and let people know mine are definitely
Trigun: Wolfwood dying. It makes me sad and sort of happy when he dies at the Church altar. Then at the end of the episode when Milly is screaming the tears come without fail. Full Metal Alchemist: Hughes' death made me cry out in injustice and then when his daughter asked her mother to make the men stop burying her daddy I was crying. Another one that makes me sad although I don't think I really cried it isn't techinically a death in the literal sense of the word. Fruits Basket: The death of Hatori's love with that girl whose name I can't remember. It is just tragic how he has to erase her memory and then she doesn't even recognise him. I really hated Akito for that one.
Vash the Stampede: That cross is awfully heavy.
Wolfwood: That's because it's filled with mercy.

I'll never forget sitting on my bed eating Chex Mix watching FMA, my jaw hitting the floor, when I saw...
Hughes killed. It was just so shocking! I mean, how could you kill the family man?! His funeral really broke my heart! But what was a really nice touch was that he came back in spirit to say goodbye to Ed and Al on the train station platform.

Also, Nick Wolfwood's death on Trigun really broke my heart! I love the fact that he confessed his sins before he passed on. Mad props to the creators for having him pass on kneeling at the pulpit with the cross on his shoulder. Very beautiful. Millie's sobbing really hurt. I think it was the first time that I actually recall wanting to cry with an anime character!

The only part of S-Cry-Ed that I can honestly say I liked was the way they handled Kimishima's death. Very traumatic, and the way they ended that episode was a nice touch too.
Cell from Dbz, Yea jsut about everyone know, but man was it awsome!

And also I shuold say I liked Ed's death from FMA, that was crazy, Even though he was only dead for about ten minutes, for a second I thought that he had really died for good.
As for the second one, that was intense.
