I go to church at Happy Valley, but it's in South Australia.

I wear whatever. I don't really choose colours for any particular reason. I wear all black sometimes, but I'm certainly not Punk, Goth or anything like that, I probably don't fit into any category. I don't see a problem with wearing black or anything of that nature. Clothing is clothing for me. Nothing more.
Black is also good because dirt doesn't show up as easily and is easier to wash out. (lol) Not too mention it's one of my favourite books by Ted Dekker. I'm on a roll.

In the vein that Christian's can wear black, I give you the youth leader at my church,

Hi I just wanted to be honest and say I have made some preconceptions about people who have the studded bracelets and stuff but my sister has tattoos and she wears alot of black and dyes her hair all sorts of colors and she is awesome and she is a cool big sister and

I want to dye my hair black too

but people have preconceptions if you hair is blonde too and they have brunette and redhead jokes and all sorts of stuff to make fun and hurt others and that is why as christians we are supposed to rise above our human nature and take up our crosses and follow Jesus so we at least make the world a better place in our immediate area and there are so many of us

there is almost four thousand members on CAA now and we could change the world if each of us were more like Jesus and gave into our flesh less

It would just be better if we wouldn't stoop to the level the world has stooped to and rise as above it as christians as supposed to

Sorry if I was preaching but i felt it needed to be said

Very true. I've also prejudged people by their appearance. And I'm sorry for that. Some 'alternative' looking people are the nicest I've met.

I have no trouble with black. I used to look a lot like Locke's youth leader actually. I used to have green liberty spikes. I also had a mohawk once. But I decided it was too much effort to find new and creative ways to get my hair to stand up straight.

I doesn't seem to me like wearing black is much of an issue for the younger generation as it is for the older.... that's really the only issue I take with wearing black or dressing goth or punk. If it keeps you from ministering or serving the Lord in any way, it's not worth it. For instance if you work at a retirement home or make hospital visits with your church leaders, some older people might seriously be afraid of me if I was decked out in my chains and leather jacket with green, spikey hair.

Romans 12:18
If it is possible, as much as depends on you, live peaceably with all men.

If it means giving up black, then it means giving up black.

On the other hand, if it doesn't hinder you in ministery, knock yourself out. :thumb:

I agree warrior 4 Christ some of the coolest people i have met had piercings and tattoos

like a youth pastor at my church he has tattoos up and down both of his arms and yet he is one of the most knowledgeable greek bible scholars i have ever met and he is just so totally awesome and even i want to possibly get a tattoo you know and i know that tattoos and stuff are conlusive with bad things its what is inside that counts and frankly I think it is just wierd to judge people by what they wear cause clothes can be changed

we are supposed to judge by the fruits like the bible says because that is the more sound way to tell about people weither(sp?) they are christians or not and stuff

I can't think of anything wrong wearing black, or why black would be thought of to be evil. The darkness and the light are both alike unto God, as the psalmist said.

I wear tons of black/dark clothes, for no reason other than black looks good on me. I think some people read way too much into things, good or bad, in the end black is just when an object absorbs all the light that hits it.

;) Hey, maybe that could be like us having the Light of God inside us? *kidding*

You are welcome, good sir. Perhaps someday we can promote a future where black clothing can live alongside other colours in perfect harmony.

And clothing will not be judged by the colour of its fabric, but by the person it is on.

Oh dear, where does that leave Johnny Cash? Strangely I have to say though that in the early 1990's there was a similar trend here, that people who wore black were openly sinners and everything, though it was not neccisarily the case. Indeed, my Voortrekker group (kind of like local Boyscouts) whore black as their colour and no one thought us to be children of eeeeeeevil. But these days black is more neutral. A lot of my friends have black somewhere. :)

But I don't wear black, singularly because I believe it doesn't look good on me. :) I do wear dark colours, but I'm not fond of black.

Cap'n Nick wrote:Heheh, sorry. What I was trying to say was, it's important to think about the messages you're sending. Around here that's what black usually means, but there are other places where it could actually help you communicate. You have to know your context. Black clothes can be difficult because for some reason they have more volatile implications in a wide range of contexts. Right, wrong, whatever, they're there, and people wearing these clothes need to be wary of them and make sure any messages they are sending are working to the advantage of their ministry and not its detriment.

Yeah, I guess your right. I'm trying to tone down my image a bit at the moment because I was looking a bit too goth (and as someone else said, it's kinda difficult to be a 'true goth' and a christian). I still like black, streetwear and some gothy stuff, mainly because it's the style I like (I couldn't ever imagine myself going back to sports wear). I guess it's really all down to what you think Gods telling you to do, if you feel like what your wearings wrong then maybe you do need to tone down (like myself), if you don't then you probably don't need to worry (could be different for different people). After all, there are many worse things out there...

Ahem. In all seriousness, I don't put much stock in what people think of how I dress. Everyone can think whatever they want. The Lord knows my heart.
