Former music tastes you aren't proud of...

Yeah, I found out recently that most visual kei bands are male and alot of them dress to look very feminin. Personally I find that I generally like music by non-visual kei bands more

Do you guys ever suddenly remember, or get reminded of the music taste you used to have and think "What the heck was I thinking?!"

I was looking through some of my old threads from a couple of years ago and found this gem-of-a-comment in one of the Jam Session ones. Oh, boy if I had a timemachine I'd go back and slap myself, I love Visual Kei, I can't even remember not liking it. So anyway, do you guys have any embarrasing moments?

Man, I remember a couple years ago when I used to like Rap, and Pop, and all that crap. I remember singing along to a couple of britney spears songs... Faaairly embarassing.

i am the same as Zip (unfortunatly) but that was like 7 yrs ago but i didn't sing to britney spears tho. Also i use to not like the hard screamo type of music now i adore it

i remeber my pop music days ahhh the days when I listened to mind numbing mass produced amarican pop. Thank God those days are gon and I learned to think for myself! I think that was about 6 or 7 years ago now I listen to everything tho i still cant stand most rap for some reason but give me melodic death metal or metalcore any day!

hmm, the list of types of music I regret listening to is quite long and painful
summery:
there was rap in general, and pop/rock bands

Rap. Not just rap, but hardcore gangsta' rap. I can't count the number of cd's or songs I had on my computer. Just a year ago, that's all you would hear me listening to, some cursing rap song or another, but now I REALLY like hardcore Christian rock, lots of emo, indie rock, techno, alternative and Jrock and Jpop. It's a complete opposite.

Some of the stuff I used to listen to would make everyone I know blush xD;; Glad I don't go cruising through the streets with that blasting anymore.

I'll actually agree here :/ The only ones I have/listen to are ones from a while ago and are either ones that are really good, or just remind me of really good anime^^ I actually find myself listening to more english jpop if anything^^ But honestly... haven't heard any good ones in a loooooong time :/

Also, many types of pop like Bewitched and so forth.... oh and Savage Garden I was huge with that :/ just can't hear it anymore, except for maybe a couple of songs.

I've never listened to music I could be proud of. If I found something with deep lyrics and a good message it was invariably too brooding or anemic, and if I could move to it it was either vapid or disrespectful. The best compromise I've found is 80s pop, which at least has an ironic irrelevance to balance out its banality.

Well, I went through the usual boy-band stage, even shrieking my head off at an N'Sync concert as a thirteen-year-old. And I remember thinking that Britney Spears' songs were actually really catchy, though by that point I was beginning to notice my own bad taste.

But I think the pop-phase isn't anywhere near as embarrasing as my rabid country stage. Some of it wasn't so bad, I mean Brooks and Dunn, Alabama and Dolly Parton I can still respect. But Little Texas, Billy Ray Cyrus and all out cheese-fest country ballads? What was I thinking?

I remember the one song that I loved even had a cheese-tacular video with an overweight redneck dude riding out a tornado in an outhouse. And I thought 'Achy Breaky Heart' was....catchy O_o

I'll never live that down. Or understand the relevance of it, for that matter.

Hmm... Switchfoot. I was once such a loyal fan of their music. Then, they went mainstream and lost most all of their value. I still have Learning to Breathe on my desk somwhere.

I'm sure there are others... I just can't think hard enough right now.

Really? How come? I found that I've grown into jrock (and jpop/rock like Gackt) over the last few years.

I remember once linedancing to 'Cotton-eye Joe' at a school assembly, but I was very, very young at the time, so it hasn't tramautized me too badly.

Not me I hated country form the get go. The only thing wors than a country song is getting one stuck in your head. No afence to thoughs who (still) love country.

While I don't like much country at all (never really have), I love Johnny Cash! XD Definitely not a stage, methinks. Johnny Cash is just cool.

I used to like the super-hyper-Disney-radio type Christian rock that became popular after the Boyband explotion. You know, Stacie Orrico, Rachel Lampa, Plus One, that sort of thing. I still get mild enjoyment out of it, but I'm no where nearly as fanatical as I used to be, though.

There was ONE band, though...Raze. Sort of a Christian...Dance/Hip-hop band. One of the founding members of the band was caught doing...some...erm....pretty un-Christian things. >> He was arrested for it in put into jail. The rest of the band--poor guys, there's something you'll NEVER live down--were so upset they broke up (well, he was the founding member after all!). I think I still have both of their CDs. Awful. T_T

Oh, yeah, and the first music recording I bought for myself was the Pokemon soundtrack for the TV show. yeah.

...Although I still like that Double Trouble song.
