That was the biggest April Fools joke in my opinion--No NGE or Inuyasha!

It was a good thing that I paid a visit to my library and checked out season four and five of The Simpsons on DVD, Fruits Basket, and Rurouni Kenshin!

I LOVE MY LIBRARY!

EDIT: According to wikipedia, "Note that cable outlets, such as Cartoon Network's critically acclaimed Adult Swim, are not governed by the FCC and generally do much less editing." So yeah. The FCC has no power over Cartoon Network. XD

I think the only restriction is that stations that carry sexually explicit material is supposed to be scrambled so nothing can be seen or else be shown late at night (lesser scrambling)

This was some years ago though, and some chanels were trying to sue to remove that so it may be out of date news.

Gah, I hated this. It was so disgusting, and they even cut important lines in order to instert more "farting" noises. Did anyone notice an important line missing from FMA? Instead of having Edward say to Rose, "You've got two good legs, get up and use them," they completely cut the line and made it seem like Edward was relieving himself before walking away. Gugh, it was such a sad display of sick humor.

Yeah, I was disappointed they had to cut out that line, it's one of my favorites. (Although I recently checked out the DVD from the library, so it wasn't TOO disappointing for me not to see it again.) I have to admit the effect was kinda funny, though.

I think this joke would've been a lot MORE funnier if they had used different sounds effects, instead of just one straight through. Like when Ed claps his hands, there's a duck quack instead of the normal clapping noise, Al's clanging footsteps are tires screetching, etc etc. That sort of thing.

Still, though, I don't think it was THAT bad. A little juvinile, yeah, but it was a rerun...the way some of your guys are talking about it, it's almost as if you think they're burning Bibles.

Waaaah, boo hoo, how dare they tamper with the sacred anime!

Guys, get over it. It wasn't supposed to be "funny", it was done intentionally to annoy everyone. Don't take it so seriously. It's a cartoon, people.

I AGREE!!! LOL

Come on, this is the bajillionth time they have shown this episode. (ok..maybe the 8th)
but still let's not take it TOO seriously.

I guess it's not a huge deal for me, because I have this episode recorded...

I agree, it was more of a prank than a joke. Less funny and more annoying. That said, I laughed, because I laugh at silly things.

Plus, given their history, and the fact that their "schedule" slotted the same two episodes of InuYasha that aired last week, people should have suspected that something was up.

Meh. Not my kind of humor. But guys, just think of Adult Swim in this case as being like a forum troll. They're trying to torque you off. In doing so, they only prove how juvenile they are, and they aren't worth getting upset over.

i dunno about that. I watched both the cowboy bebop and FMA ones--with Cowboy Bebop I wasn't impressed, but I thought the FMA one was funny. I think it's because since I was more familiar with the episode, I found it more funny.

i guess i didnt mind it that much. just because they only showed the fart gag for GITS when they played it in Inuyasha's place. it was normal when they played it on its regular time. The first time i saw GITS w/ the fart gag i didnt know if it was for real or if it was a prank. for a little while i just thought that the girl had like an irritable bowl syndrom or something. lol but i figured it out once they started playing FMA. As for FMA I didnt mind that either just b/c it was a rerun. if it had been a new ep. that would have bothered me but since it wasnt i personally thought it was funny.

i was a little mad however when they replaced cowboy beebop for some show bout Mr. T. that annoyed me.

I found it! I found parts from the FMA episode! XDDD But the website has some bad videos, so...whoever wants them...just PM me, since I can't put the links on here. >__<

They are SO funny!

I'm not angry at them at all, but that's probably because I've already seen that episode. It's not like I was looking forward to watching it. I'd rather that they didn't put the farts in at really serious moments, though.

That's true from what I understand, such that something like the Spice channel would have to be scrambled or (on digital systems) blacked out. But the definition of "sexually explicit" is pretty subjective and often is interpreted pretty loosely, which is how a channel like Comedy Central can get away with running movies that narrowly escaped an NC-17 rating uncut.

As for the AS farts issue... I didn't especially like it, but I didn't think it was a huge deal, especially since they ran the GitS and FMA episodes another time, sans the gas. Someone on another MB mentioned (and I thought it made sense) that it may have been their way of telling us anime fans to lighten up, because we often tend to take ourselves too seriously. Hopefully, it got the attention of some new viewers in a positive way. And I'll admit, in an immature 4th-grade sort of way, I found it chuckle-worthy a couple times.

About the old-school Hanna Barbera toons... I can deal with it as long as it's a one-time thing. But considering the struggles of the Saturday night block, I have to wonder if it might have been a test run for trying some of the old-school stuff on AS before 5AM. :shady: Also, in a way I was glad I got to see the Boo-Boo cartoon since I hadn't seen it in its entirety.
Theme Scripture: Stand fast therefore in the liberty by which Christ has made us free, and do not be entangled again with a yoke of bondage. (Galatians 5:1)

And a verse for all us single folks: Do we have no right to take along a believing wife, as do also the other apostles, the brothers of the Lord, and Cephas? (1 Corinthians 9:5)

(not directed to the post above)

Everybody has their own sense of humor. It doesn't make them mature or immature, it just means that they laugh at certain things. I think farting is funny. It doesn't mean I'm childish, it just means that I think farting is funny. *shrugs*

(And I thought the April Fool's joke was one of the funniest things I've ever seen in my life.)

I normally think farting is hilarious too. Yeah, I realize this isn't a big deal at all, but context is everything when it comes to humor. I guess the timing just wasn't right for me.

Regarding what people said in the other thread for this I was told I was a hypocite because I was angry that AS played those fart jokes and I had za fart joke in my Avatar.

I have a question:
Is the DDR bunny a serious anime with diahrea and fart sounds resonating from from it every two seconds?

No?

I rest my case.

As far as what AnimeHeretic and freerock said, I think that most cable channels, though not under FCC regulations, would not show sexually explicit things for two reasons. One, because it would be making restricted material available to minors (which IS illegal), and two, because if they did, the more conservative people in this country would boycott their network and it would be bad for business.

Okay now, seriously....Fullmetal Alchemist is my favorite series. But since when is it 'serious'? Yes, it deals with some serious issues, and it can be pretty emotional and even tear-inducing at times, but the series was never afraid to make fun of itself. The short jokes, Armstrong's sister, Hughes--heck, the original manga ALWAYS has humorous bonus strips in the back, and the author proclaims "I wish I could do nothing but the bonus pages!!"

I could maybe see whining about GitS, but Fullmetal Alchemist? Surely most of us that are fans have a better sense of humor than that!
