Favorite "Big Robot" anime

Postby rocklobster » Wed Mar 29, 2006 4:38 pm

OK, it's time to sound off on your favorite Big Robot anime! Who will reign supreme? I would've done a poll, but there would've been way too many choices, so I decided you should just name your faves instead. Here are mine:
  • Gundam SeeD
  • Gundam Wing
  • Big O
  • Voltron
  • Gadguard
  • Dual: Parallel Trouble Adventure
  • Neon Genesis Evangelion
  • RahXephon

I would have to say Gundam err the one with the guy who has the whole burning fist thing going

Isn't that Burning Gundam from G Gundam? Anyway, my pick is, of course, the anime with the baddest big robots *ever* - Mobile Suit Gundam Wing. Specifically Wing Zero Custom and Heavyarms Kai. (Endless Walz, I know, but it's the same universe.)

...polls can have ALOT of choices (such as the "best Final Fantasy" poll in the Gamer section).

Mine come down the only 2: RahXephon and Tenkuu no Escaflowne^^ (both TV and movie, that is). Oh! Almost forgot to add in Magic Knight Rayearth (both seasons and OVA^^)

G Gundam is probably my all-time favorite. It has good memories for me. ^^

Gundam Wing will rain supreme!

Deathsythe H pwns all other giat robots by a mile!

Yeah, I think I'd say Gundam Wing. One of my first loves, it's also the only "big robot" anime I ever got into, and the characters are so good.

Zone of the Enders would be my favorite, the video game more than the anime, but both are good.

My favorite individual robot has to be Deathscythe as well, but I'm not generally a fan of gundams.

Rahxephon and Escaflowne both get honorable mention.

I'd definitely have to say robotech the macross saga, it's also the first anime i ever got on dvd. so, it has some nostalgiac value as well. and i don't car eif ohters think it's a butchered of macross, i still think it's a great show! and i think evangelion has a great storlyine as well, not to mention some sweet battles. ^__^

Actually, the Macross saga of Robotech is largely intact from the Japanese version. It's not until they get close to the Masters saga that the cutting and pasting begins.

For me it would have to be between Evangelion and Rah Xephon. i would prolly sway more towards evangelion tho just cause i only got to see a few episodes of Rah Xephon b/f they took it off the air.

Gundam is the godfather of all mecha anime in this ones opinion.

My favorite is hands down Gundam Seed and Gundam Seed Destiny. Gundam Wing had some awesome machines as well. Here they are in order of favorites:

1) Gundam Seed\Destiny

2) Gundam Wing

3) Gundam 08th MS Team

4) Rah Xephon (I loved this show but I preffer hardware mecha to fantasy)

5) Full Metal Panic (Some really cool machines there)

6) G Gundam (It was DBZ with Gundams but they got stuff done in one episode)

7) Nadesico (Funny and the mecha where pretty cool)

8) Zone of the Enders

9) Gad Guard (I liked what I saw quite a bit)

I don't like mecha, so my favorite Big Robot shows aren't "about" the mechs, per se... I like nadesico and Dual, and I liked Eva before I saw the movies...

I have fond memories of watching Gundam Wing when I was younger. It's been a while since I've seen it, though, so I don't know how I would react to it now...heck, I can barely remember much of the plot. I just remember that Duo was cool....XD

Probably my current favorite (well, the only Mech anime I watch currently) is Full Metal Panic! The fanservice is a little over-the-top sometimes, but otherwise it's halarious AND action-packed.

Plus, Sagara is reeeeally cool, and the dub was done pretty well. ^^

Gundam Wing just because of all the fond memories I had watching it in Elementary School and (though its not an Anime) MEGAS XLR!!!!! I'm sorry, the Megas addict in me forced me to say that... now excuse me while the Megas addict in me forces me to go into the corner and weep over the fact that Megas is no longer on the air... :sniffle:

My favorite (and first) giant robot series would be G Gundam (which is, as gungrave so aptly put it, "the one with the whole burning fist thing going on." :)) You can't beat that series for sheer variety (and weirdness) in giant fighting robots.

My next would be from a relatively unknown series, Soukyuu No Fafner. The fafners are very interesting giant fighting robots (kindof like Evas), and the series itself is very intense.

Big O was a fantastic giant robot. That show was such a wonderful mix of retro and futuristic at the same time.

I just started watching Eureka 7, which also has some very interesting mech. They also have an Eva feel about them, but they ride on surf boards! (I thought it would be totally cheesy, but I'm actually enjoying it far more than I expected.)

The giant robots were the best part of Gundam Wing, and I loved the mech in Gundam Seed, but the CG made them move waaay too fast to really enjoy. (The launch sequences were the best parts for us mech-heads. :))

Thank you for asking about one of my favorite subjects, rocklobster! I've enjoyed reading this thread! :thumb:

The first time I saw this one, they were fighting the Mexican Gundam with the giant sombrerro(sp?). After that, I could never take it as seriously as the show seemed to take itself.
