Well duh  But nobody is going to call their kid "Yosef" in America. Plus the modern-day bible has the english writing. So it was adapted from that.

On another note. I never knew that some people looked down upon families with large amounts of kids. I mean my mom has 7 other siblings. I always figured that if the parents wanted a lot of kids, then why shouldn't they? (Unless that would decrease one's standard of living, which clearly is not happening with the Duggars)

Whoo I definately wouldn't want that many kids. And kids shouldn't be forced to suffer in my presence for large amounts of time anyways.
But it's not that bad. My mom has around 14 brothers and sisters and another who died of seizures at a very young age.

Anyways as long as the people can care for the children. The problem is when you see children in big families starving for both food and attention. I think that is the type of thing seen in the world that brought the darker tone in the responses earlier.
Personally, these days it seems almost shocking that someone wants all these children when abortion and just plain people abandoning helpless children is so widespread.

Anyways, as long as they're happy and healthy great for them!

For all the people who are upset about "the tone taken in this thread," I'm pointing out that there were apologies all around and the thread now has the correct tone - so no more tone ... talk.

I watched the show too, and while I found it fascinating, I did get the creepy feeling like a family from the ACE Paces had come to life - clothes and all. ^^; (Somewhere, Zilch is shuddering.)

tone ... talk.

 That just struck me as funny. It sounds like the name of a TV show.

Welcome back to Tone Talk with your hostess, Gypsy! On today's episode, we are talking about the tone of this thread and have invited several guest experts whom you have never heard of to offer us their opinions. Then Gypsy will be taking your PM's!

That's what I'm talking about! Exactly! It was very interesting, but it was a bit creapy! Adding to the creep-factor was the fact that they were all dressed alike, they all played the same instrument, and they all dressed alike! It was really, freaky.

I saw this show. I thought it was interesting -- yes, a bit creepy, but let's be honest, most of the time people don't think about of question the quality of life children have, and I have to say those parents seemed to be doing a lot better than some who have one or two kids.

A kid with no siblings, divorced parents, or one parent, a "regular" schooling where he has lots of bullying and few or no friends -- would be considered "normal," and probably no one would worry about that kid at all.

I think it's good to show families like that on TV. I hope it will broaden people's minds and show that there's nothing wrong with having more than 2.5 kids.

(I agree with what Black Rose Misoa said, too. "Be fruitful and multiply" were God's words, and He didn't say, "Oh but by the way by the year 2000+ that will be outdated advice so forget I said anything.")

I'm all for adoption, but that doesn't mean you shouldn't have kids yourself. Though naturally not everyone is called to adopt (or have) kids. Personally, I hope to have kids of my own when I'm married, AND adopt, if the Lord wills.

What I found interesting is that this family didn't just make a little extra room and make the kids make do -- they seemed to actually go about things in a manner that showed they were thinking ahead about taking care of their kids, and spending time with them, and everything. That's something more people should do, I believe.

I realize that most parents try to do the best they can for their children, but in my experience, parents with larger families usually try harder, and take their jobs more seriously. And yet they're the ones that society frowns upon.

Um, why does everyone forget the SECOND half of that commandment? It's a lot like how people say "Your body is a temple" but forget that the context is sexual sins, not tattoos or what have you. So for the sake of argument, let me post the WHOLE thing instead of just PART of it:

God blessed them and said to them, "Be fruitful and increase in number; fill the earth and subdue it. Rule over the fish of the sea and the birds of the air and over every living creature that moves on the ground." - Genesis 1:28

Now, I'm not trying to say we've finally succeeded in subduing the earth. Only God knows when we have succeeded in that. I'm just saying there's a second part that you can't ignore to that statement. ;)

I met an Amish lady who had 93 grandchildren...

and has anyone been in an Amish home? They're AMAZING. They're so clean you can eat off the floors, and all they have are brooms. They don't bring their shoes in the house for one... but they have tons of kids to do work. And most of the kids I've met are really polite and well mannered and everything.

So the amish have a few up on us. Clean houses and really good kids XD This is, of course, a very hasty generalization.
