Just saw Princess Monanoke......and LOVED IT!

I highly recommend it over Spirited Away for people with my tastes.

I loved this movie and I can`t wait to see the others.

Umm... It is Mononoke.

Sorry, I have an obsession of that particular movie, so misspellings just kinda... POP out. If ya know what I mean.
That movie is great. If you had paid attention to the music at all, it was beautiful! I even went out and bought the Japanese soundtrack to it which has about 33 tracks. lol I sang to "Only the Mononoke" in Japanese as they sang it in English. It sounds better in Japanese, in my opinion.

Did they edit anything out from it? I didn't watch it. Why suffer through the horrible commericals every 10 minutes when I can watch it on DVD, ne?

And, yes, Princess Mononoke is a excellent masterpiece.

Yeah, I loved it, but man...the wolf basically just bit the entire right side of that woman's body off (not to say she didn't deserve it) but shoot...bloody for Cartoon Network. I didn't care, but my 8 year old brother was watching it. Apparently he didn't have any nightmares, though.

Yeah I used to know all the word to "Mononoke-tachi Dake" when I got my first view of the movie. Seen the movie... many many times since then (more times in english than Japanese). Actually I just watched it a couple days ago since I haven't seen it in forever. Still a gooder^^

BTW: anyone else get werieded out by Moro's orginal voice? From watching it in english several times with her having a more... feminine voice and then to Japanese I was like 0_o "sounds more like an old man!"

i loved it. its one of my favorites out of myazaki's works but i have to agree that the comercials every 10 mins were very annoying. im pretty sure the comercials were the reason the movie was three hours long. i think w/o them it would only be two. either way it was a great movie and i agree that the music was awsome also...you could tell tho that the opening song was originally in japanese...at least it sounded like it was.

I tried sitting through it again and made it maybe half way though. They are still showing some of Miyazaki's works on Turner Classic Movies. Spirited Away was on again yesterday at 2:00 in the afternoon so I watched it once more. In my opinion it's much better so I guess after seeing it, it was just difficult for me endure Mononoke once more.

Anyways, I don't really prefer Mononoke, it kind of weirded me out. XD Nice animation, though.

Actually after rewatching the movie, the "weridness" factor is more of a trademark for Miyazaki. The night-walker reminded me of Noh-Face, actually.

I remember seeing Princess Mononoke in theators. That was my first anime that was ever graphically violent since before then - all I watched was Dragon Ball Z, Sailor Moon, and Gundam Wing haha. But that's why I love this movie. I have a huge poster on my wall in my room of it ^_^

Hahaha, I think it was more of the whole demon-arm thing and the animals that weirded me out. XDD It's weird with me, some things do, some don't. *shrugs* :lol:

i am a big fan of Monoke (spelling way off) it was a bit violent but nothing i couldn't handle heck i am a huge fan of Akira so not much fazes me

I've seen Princess Mononoke twice and despite the annoying commercials every ten minutes, I thoroughly enjoyed it. What I've seen of Miyazaki's has been good, but this one surprised me. The blood was unexpected, and the voiceovers were different, but I thought it was excellent.

Anyone seen any other movie posters for Princess Mononoke, other than the one with Ashitaka holding a sword and San with the wolf behind her? I looked but I haven't found any other ones. Another thing about this movie...why was Lady of Oshi the only one who looked remotely Japanese or influenced by them?

Eh. I saw Mononoke a while back. It was ok. Nothing amazing in my mind. I felt it was borderline lame on the realistic side. The whole, arrows tearing off limbs bit.

Princess Mononoke was pretty good from what I saw/remember of it (I was watching it at 2:30 after watching Dead Poets Society with a friend, my eyes were literally forcing themselves shut). Isn't it in the same DVD series as Castle in the Sky? Now THAT was totally awesome! Shame you can't get it on DVD in England

I'm inclined to say this was his least inspired work, and probably his most preachiest. It was annoying enough in that aspect that by the time we got to the end, I was pretty much rooting for Lady Eboshi.

I definitely agree with Ark over how stupid the bit was of arrows knocking off limbs and heads. I remember when it came out, anime fans were annoyed that people in the audience were laughing in the battle scenes and said it was because Americans were too unsophisticated to realize anime could be serious. Well, I was one of the ones laughing, because it looked so bad.

I liked it but I can agree the violence was completley fake.
So far this is my favorite work of Miyasaki and the only one I`ve seen with a male protagonist.

I "thimk" it was really incredible and had the best plot so far that actually had me excited to know what was going to happen.

Spirited Away and Castle in the Sky failed to do that; Castle in the Sky suceeded more than Spirited Away.

(BTW, Josh, about the "Thimk Thimg" ... Just messin` wid ya.)

Hmm, dunno bout that. I liked Castle in the Sky more mainly because it seemed more aimed at kiddie audiences but still managed to pull off a exciting storyline and memorable characters. Kind of like Metropolis in that respect.

I thought it was really good. The ending moved me. It was more violent than your average anime, but it isn't that bad if you think about it like a war movie. It's about as graphic as We Were Soldiers. Even though I just started watching his works, I don't recommend for your first Miyazaki film. Spirited Away would be better for that.

I thought the part were San fed Ashitaka was cool. It kind of reminded me of the skit with Chris Kattan on Saturday Night Live were his family has to chew his food for him.
