Agreed entirely.

And like I've posted on before, IS it always the drawing that we're attracted to? Before drawing stark generalizations, I think people should probably take that into account. Again, not saying that all anime crushes are healthy. Heck, a lot of them probably aren't. But you can't apply something straight across the board.

I know plenty of people who are in love with characters that most consider "ugly". Heck, I'm in love with a character that people consider ugly. To me Manta is the most attractive character in Shaman King. =X

It might be "just a drawing" but if you're a roleplayer, you can have somewhat of a relationship with them in your mind and in your fantasies.

Funny, just like real life, isn't it? People value appearances far more than they are willing to let on.

That really isn't true for me at all. In fact, it's the other way around for me; the less attractive a character is, the more I like them. :P

It's easy to put something like this under a generalization. However, what is defined as a "crush" to one person might be an entirely different concept to another. Likewise, people probably crush on anime characters much differently than they would on a movie star. A person might crush differently on an anime character than on a fictional character in a novel (where physical apppearance wouldn't be an issue). Overall, the people I know personally that have innocent, light-hearted crushes on anime characters prove to be some of the most mature individuals I've met. Inversely, there's people I've encountered that have unhealthy crushes on anime characters and a skewed sense of reality, using fantasy as an escape. It just depends.

The way I look at it, "crush" means the same both ways (real\anime). You fall for the person, develop certain feelings, and you admire certain qualities about him or her. A healthy interpretation of an anime crush is accepting that the character will never be real. As long as one remains functional and knows their true priorities in life, then a crush on a fictional character would include an emotional attachment.

I totally agree that it's relative and like I've mentioned a couple of times, people react differently on how they enjoy fiction.

~:O I guess I did once, but now I'm not so keen on it. ^^ XD I'm embarrassed to say this but I thought Ash from Pokemon was awesome. But I find a distinct difference in real people and anime characters that kind of drew me away from 'crushing,' even if anime characters are more attractive. I mean, if you think about it, how awkward would it be to meet the character you like in real life?

Well for one thing there be the entire language barrier.I mean let's be honest unless it was a character that spoke English as either a first or second language it be a bit hard to communicate.

 So...up until recently I thought it was the ERLIC brothers, and I just found out it's the ELRIC brothers...so that explains my totally incompetent username :hits_self

Everyone's entitaled there opinions. As for me, I'm just gonna crush on anime villains. I thinkit's fineto have a crush, as long asthere'sno real emotion there.

isn't there usually at least a little emotion involved in a crush? I mean, otherwise it wouldn't be a crush, would it?
