The Best Working Conditions...

Postby Allegro » Tue Mar 21, 2006 3:22 pm

Do you generally work well in a clean and relatively noise-free environment, or would you need some distractions around you to get a particular job done?

Oddly enough, I have found that working with distractions around me helps keep myself focus on a certain errand. Especially when I study something, music and noise from my humidifier tend to keep me going within the background. Though if everything is quiet and my environment is spic and span, I somehow don't really get into whatever it is I am concentrating on.

Probably its because I get lazy if everything is in too much order. :)

EDIT: Can a mod please change my vote to 'active?' (a voting accident has occured on my part). ^^

Silence can be very distracting. A little background noise helps a lot of people keep at ease.

I work a lot at home, and believe me, there are plenty of distractions there. Video games, books, anime, my brother, manga, all compete with time I should be working. To be honest though, I still get more done there than I do in the office.

It depends upon the type of work, really. I've never found that activity stimulates me, but there are some times when I prefer some music or soft noise in the background. As for noise, it only interferes with some activities (mathematics or heavy reading, mostly) and doesn't affect some in the slightest (such as most creative writing).

It really depends on what I'm working at. I can do school while listening to classical or celtic music, but not anything more then that.

But I work best on the computer with music. Actually, I can't remember the last time I got on the computer and could work without music. Because I have my own music on here, and it is a 50/50 job if I'm listening to something I want to listen to.
50 work/50 relaxing.

When it's something more physical like like building a fence of something, I don't really care.

I work best when not working at all.

But seriously, I don't think I need quiet as much as I need a neat and clean environment... for example, if I'm trying to work on a paper and my room's a mess, I'll probably end up spending the next thirty minutes or so cleaning it.

Usually some softish to not-so-softish music in the background helps, especially when at the computer.

considering the work I do, it has to be active or nothing would ever get done.
This also goes for school work, but on a smaller level, music or TV must be on.

I am very easily distracted, especially when other people are around, I can't resist wandering over to chat with them. On the flip side, my room and workspace are almost never clean and organized, though I definately could work more efficiently if they were, it just almost never happens. ^^;;;;

I do occasionally listen to music while I work, I just tend to forget to bring it with me, so I more often than not do without.

If my studio gets really messy (and stays messy for days), I am driven to distraction until I go on a cleaning spree. However, I do like to listen to music while I sculpt, although it is not strictly necessary for me to concentrate.

I voted for active. I work at a home for the mentally handicapped. I really like it when everyone is doing something, and I'm running around like a chicked with my head cut off. If nothing is going on, I feel like I have to do something, even when there is nothing to do.

More Noise = More Productivity. For me. Not so much for the people around me, because I like having a LOT of noise.

I can work in either, but clean and quiet is more conductive to productivity.

Yeah, I get more done when I'm alone in plenty of space. I listen to music, but that only helps keep me awake.
