Pancakes delayed the end of WWII?

Postby Puritan » Fri Mar 17, 2006 8:10 am

I ran into this article today, and thought it was really interesting. A guy was given the letter announching Japan's surrender in WWII, and rather than delivering it immediately he ate a pancake breakfast and hung out with friends. Imagine being given a message that would change history, only to delay delivery while you ate a leisurely breakfast and got pulled over by police! Not your run-of-the-mill WWII story, that's for sure.

It seems to me that the article alludes to him not in fact knowing what he carried. Just goes to show the importance of not slacking off on the job.

Wow... That's a really interesting story... It's just going to be 16 minutes? I'd like this extended to 3 hours, with backstory and, like, his homelife and love interest, and then at the end, there could be this dog outside the diner with shifty eyes, so you know it was really him...

In any case, I'll be ready to watch this if I can get ahold of it, but... Well, 16 minutes... I mean, that's not a lot of time to get a whole DVD for, for sure...

I like pancakes...

I think pancakes are worth the delay of a major world war affecting millions and millions of people around the world. They are beautiful. They are breakfast food. They warm....the heart?.....

Particularly because, if the message was going to the President (and he had to know who it was going to in order to deliver it), then even if it's just an invitation to tea it's still more important than breakfast and skirt-chasing. :eyeroll:

Can you imagine the conversation with the cop?

Cop: Do you know why I pulled you over?
Messenger: But Officer! I have a message for the President!
Cop:.......Right.

Wow, that's awesome. Makes you think twice about such responsibilities. Poor kid had no idea that that message was so important, they should have at least told him, 'take this directly to the President, no unnecessary stops of any sort.' or something like that. *shakes head* *laughs*

They might have. However, can you imagine the sheer number of messages being delivered in wartime? The kid had probably been delivering messages for a while and being told to deliver something immediately had probably lost its importance. Or he just really loved pancakes...

Ha ha... Hey for pancakes.

This reminds of a rather interesting facts:
Did you know that at the battle that lost the American Revolution, only half the soldiers expected where present. It is a little known fact that this is becasue the general that was supposed to lead 3 battalions of men was on holiday and the letter that was to recall him to the field was accidentially not sent.

Pancakes and vacations, they'll be the death of us all!
Will insert something intelligent here later... maybe
