Not sure if their is a topic but has anyone listened to Matisyahu?

He is a Hasidic Jewish Raggae singer. My friends showed me his music and I was blown away by his sincerity, his statement of his faith, as well as well his seriousness. I thought it was a gimmick or a parody like Adam Sandler. This guy, not only a talented vocalist, has uplifting messages towards society and his listeners. I highly suggest listeing to "King without a Crown". I absolutely love that song.

BTW he does guest vocals on one track in POD (not sure what song cause I don't have the c.d.)

So far I've been impressed with what I've heard of his music. He seems to have a strong faith in God, but from an Old Testament perspective that hasn't embraced Jesus as the Messiah.

It would be awesome to see him get connected with a group like Jews for Jesus.

Well, the chances of converting a person who has already converted to Hasidism are virtually nil.

On topic: His music is terrific. When I first heard about him, he was being billed as a "rapper," which is not at all accurate, and I just figured he was a gimmick. But he is really talented, genuinly devoted to his beliefs, and sincere in his music. Ingredients for a great musician if I ever heard them.

My favorite songs are "Warrior," "Time of your Song," "Jeruselum," and "King Without a Crown."

I need to pick up his new album Youth, but his live album is fantastic. I love "Warrior," "Beat Box," and, of course, "King Without A Crown." It's a very good CD.

Youth is a great album. My only complaint would be that I think it's a bit over-produced, but the songs are so great that such a flaw is quickly forgotten.

Matisyahu is amazing. I recently got his Youth album, which is great. My favorite songs so far are King Without a Crown, Youth, and Time of Your Song. I'll have to pick up his Live album when I get a chance. I heard the Beatbox track, which was insane.

As for P.O.D.'s new CD, Matisyahu is on "Roots in Stereo" and "Strength of my Life." They are my 2 favorite tracks on the album. (The rest of the album is really good also...)

yeah i think there was another thread..not alot of responces cause almost no one knew who he was.

Stubb's was incredible, and the video for King Without a Crown is bleeding awsome.

The critics seem to be having fun shanking it for it's novelty but I think he has the chops to stay one step ahead of them, even though sometimes I wonder how can a Jewish dude from Brooklyn can sound so much like a jamaican. xD

I highly recommend both of his cds, and his debut cd (Shake Off The Dust...Arise) thats not as polished but still pretty good.

Matisyahu....I've heard about him. Good sound, but bad news I think. Interestingly enough, the person who started Hadistic Judaism was called Baal Something-Something (not sure the rest of his name). Ever read about Elijah's slaying of the prophets of Baal? Remember how the prophets attempted to arouse their god? By dancing. Guess what the main focus of Hadistic Judaism is? Dancing. Interesting neh?

Well, you are correct in one aspect, the founder of the Hasidic movement was called Ba'al Shem Tov. However it should be noted that the word "Ba
al" in Hebrew usage simply means "Master." More like a title than a reference to the god of the Canaanites. (This is similar to the English interpretaion of "Allah," which is only a word meaning "God" and not a specific, differentiating name.)

Also, if you are interested, the basic foci of the hasidic movement can be found here. As you can see, dancing is a small part of it; the main focus is simply that all happiness, or better still every aspect of liffe, should be focused on God and come from God.

its religions like this that are decieving. everything seems solid, but there are a few points that are warped. first of all, they don't believe that Jesus was the Son Of God. that should be enough to stop you in your tracks. but also the way they make their leader to be almost a god. another point is the whole feeling good about yourself. emotions are deceptive. the whole thing about drinking, dancing, etc. is feeding the flesh. their core beliefs are against the Word Of God completely.

Again, we shouldn't be debating theology here, PM me if you would like to discuss this further. Sorry if I offended, my intention was not to cause trouble, I just didn't want a misconception to get in the way of your discovery of some great music.

Sweet Mercury has a very valid point here. Let's not get into debating theology in this thread, since it is completely unnecessary. Just talk about the CD and the music, guys.

As for me, I'm going to have to listen to some samples of this album on iTunes, just to see what he sounds like. I've seen ads for his album on iTunes ever since it debuted.

It's worth checking out. He's really talented, as a singer, and there is genuine feeling in his music. A rarity.
