Everyone read this! Flash player exploit: Upgrade to avoid viruses!

OK - EVERYONE needs to know about this. Be sure you upgrade to the latest version of flash (that's the program that plays .swf files: like Homestarrrunner or many online games). I can almost guarentee that you use flash, even if you don't think you do. It will automatically load when you go to a website that uses flash, and many computers run flash directly in emails. This is not an attachment you have to download and run, so be sure you upgrade. This one is pretty bad. It affects Windows, Mac OS X and Linux. Here's the link to macromedia's website:

CERT put out the warning earlier today and I know of at least one proof of concept exploit. Upgrading as soon as bugs show up, though, helps keep you from getting comprimised.

uhm... is it a silent installer, or did it just not work right on my system?

I actually had to click the Install button to get things going, but once it's downloaded it automaticly updates and you can trash the .exe file.

The latest version should be 8. If you cannot download version 8, you should be able to get 7 here:

As for "what to expect," a successful installation should finish with launching a web browser and ariving at a web page telling you the installation was a success.

My computer didn't do that (I think it was Outpost forbidding a redirect), but you can go to this page http://www.macromedia.com/software/flash/about/ and it will tell you the version you have (In my case it did install 8.0.24.0)
