Songs from your childhood?

Postby ChristianKitsune » Tue Mar 14, 2006 10:11 pm

Hey everyone! Kitchan here! ^_^ I was just wondering if any of you guys have songs that your parents sang to you or with you as a kid?

If you do, and you know them, post em!

Here are some of mine

Baby Bumblebee:

Oh I'm bringing home a baby bumblebee,
Won't my mommy be so proud of me,
Cuz I am bringing home a baby bumble bee

OW HE STUNG ME!

Oh, I'm squishing up my baby bumblebee
Won't my mommy be so proud of me,
Cuz I am squishing up my bumblebee

EWWWW

Oh, I am wiping off my baby bumblebee
Won't my mommy be so proud of me
Cuz I am wiping off my baby bumblebee

(hehe..that's just a goofy song)

umm another one:

You Are My Sunshine

You are my sunshine
my only sunshine
you make me happy
when skies are grey

you'll never know dear,
just how much I love you,
please don't take my sunshine away.

I have more but I will post em later!

In a cabin in the woods
A little old man by the window stood,
Saw a rabbit hopping by,
Knocking at his door:
"Help me! Help me, sir," he said,
"Or the hunter will shoot me dead!"
"Come along and live with me;
"Happy we will always be."

(I'll post more later as I think of them or after I can convince Mom to remind me. ^_^ )

Oh I wish I were a three legged puppy!
That is what I'd really like to be!
Because if I were a three legged puppy,
I wouldn't have to lift my leg to pee!

This is gonna make me sound really silly. But I guess I absolutly loved Cher music when I was little. My mother loves reminding me this infront of large groups of people.

"Sing along Stevie!"

I'm sorry, I tried to not laugh, but... Don't feel bad, though. My sister had me dancing to Madonna when I was a wee tyke in the 80's. "Like a Virgin:" yeah, she had me watch the video so much that I even did the little faint and sigh move that she does. Terrible. :shake:

But my mom always sang "You are my sunshine" to me. She still signs birthday cards with a little note saying I'm still her sunshine. "Awwww!"

My father plays guitar and had a book of Jim Croce songs he liked when I was a kid. So he used to play "Bad, Bad Leroy Brown" and "You Don't Mess Around With Jim" for me (editing out the swear word in the first. lol.). Of course, as a young boy, songs like these really appealed to me. I still remember the choruses from both songs.

I also recall "You Are My Sunshine". From my mom, of course.

"Children go where i send thee", the "sweet chariot high song", and "you are my sunshine". I know the "old man by the window sill" song though, hand motions and all.

You Are My Sunshine

You are my sunshine
my only sunshine
you make me happy
when skies are grey

you'll never know dear,
just how much I love you,
please don't take my sunshine away.

My mom sang that to me and I'd cry and get upset about me, the sunshine, going away. I thought too hard about things...

Dad sang Jimmy Crack Corn:
Jimmy crack corn, and I don't care
Jimmy crack corn, and I don't care
Jimmy crack corn, and I don't care
My master's gone away

He sang that because it made me cry. He was so mean...he'd sniffle and make it all sad...

I think I was too sensitive when I was a kid. But that's mostly my dad's fault. He would eat animal crackers and make screaming noises. :eyeroll:

It's hilarious now; it wasn't then. Oh, and then he taught my friends to do that. Poor me...

My mom always woke us up with "Rise and shine." I always found it annoying actually, but I kinda like it now. When there were small groups of children she would sing the "Going on a bear hunt" song. That song was so fun. There was one serious song that she sang, but I've gone blank on the words right now...I'll try to post it later.

Don't break my heart,
My achey breaky heart,
I just don't think he'll understand.
And if you break my heart,
my achey breaky heart,
it might blow up and kill this man.

This is the song that never ends,
Yes it goes on and on my friends!
Some people, started singing it,
Not knowing what it was.
and they'll continue singing it forever
just because this is the... (repeats)

I absolutely loved that song when I was little, and I still love it. I once sang it for 30 minutes straight on a bus trip back from somewhere with my youth group.

Was you ever in Quebec
Stowing timber on the deck
Where there's a king with a golden crown
Riding on a donkey?

Refrain
Hey! Ho! Away we go!
Donkey riding, donkey riding
Hey! Ho! Away we go!
Riding on a donkey.

Was you ever in Gaspe
Where the folks all shout, "Hurray!
Here comes John with his three month's pay!"
Riding on a donkey.

Was you ever off the Horn
Where it's always fine and warm
Seeing the Lion and the Unicorn
Riding on a donkey?
The scientific method," Thomas Henry Huxley once wrote, "is nothing but the normal working of the human mind." That is to say, when the mind is working; that is to say further, when it is engaged in corrrecting its mistakes. Taking this point of view, we may conclude that science is not physics, biology, or chemistry—is not even a "subject"—but a moral imperative drawn from a larger narrative whose purpose is to give perspective, balance, and humility to learning.

I remember my mom singing songs to me, but I can't remember which ones! :O I do have songs that bring back major childhood memories, though. Like "Mexico" by James Taylor, and also "River of Dreams," by Billy Joel....XD "In the middle of the ni~ight *in the middle of the night* ....I go walkin' in my sle~eep *I go walkin' in my sleep* ...Through the Desert of Truth *Desert of Truth*...To the River of Dreams... *River of Dreams*.." Hahaha, I still love that song! XD

Oh, and I also remember hearing a TON of Michael Card's music as a kid. Yep. :D

Well, it was only a couple of years ago, since my nephew is only 5 now. I had to watch it with him, so the memories are fresh, yet still very painful.

VERY painful.

I remember Catch a Falling Star. (For you LOST fans, yes, it's the same one Claire sings!).
"Catch a falling star and put it in your pocket, never let it fade away..."

Everyone tells me that I sang I Like It, I Love It to my so-called "boyfriend" on multiple occasions as a small child.
"I like it, I love it, I want some more of it..." O.o Come to think of it, that's a little disturbing, coming from a 4-year-old.

So there's this battle that goes on between what you are and what you become, and it's been very important for me to unravel what I was taught to be or what I became. and to draw a direct parallel to music -- the closer I get back to being who I really am, the stronger the music gets..." --Billy Corgan (Smashing Pumpkins frontman)

Anybody remember that one book that went like "There once was an old lady, and she swallowed a fly. Perhaps she'll die!" And she eventually starts swallowing bigger things, and like she swallows an elephant, then she dies.
