Usagi Yojimbo anyone?

Postby Maledicte » Fri Mar 03, 2006 10:42 pm

Has anyone read this comic? http://www.usagiyojimbo.com/ by Stan Sakai. It's a samurai epic where the title character is a...rabbit? Actually, everyone is an anthro of some sort. And somehow the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles find their way in there occasionally...anyway, it's one of my favorite comics of all time. I daresay I like it better than most manga, because not only is it in black and white and in a Japanese setting, but the stories are so much more dense--whereas I can tear through a manga volume, with Usagi Yojimbo I can sit back and allow myself to be drawn into the story. It's well-written, funny, touching, dense, etc, etc...

Highly, highly recommended. Eep!

I've read one: Green Persimmon (its was published in a Disney Adventures magazine a number of years ago). Some cool fighting and good story and characters.

Usagi Yojimbo? SirThinks2Much, I love you!! I didn't think anyone else here had even heard of it! (Granted, I never got around to making a thread...)

I've actually met Stan Sakai (he drew Inazuma for me X3); he's SUPER awesome.

I am, however, a bit behind on it. It was pretty hard for me to get my hands on the graphic novels and stuff, though, my copy of Shades of Death remains one of my favorite comic books, both for the amazing art and quirky awesome story.

I've heard of this before, but never actually read it.

Maybe I should check it out some time.

Oooooh! I am jealous!

I'm a bit spotty on the series myself, being only able to read whatever the library has to offer. My favorite story arc would have to be Grasscutter, though. I heart Jei.

this manga's a straight up classic. it's a must read for everyone. my favorite part was when they joined with the ninja's in the rebellion. that was cool.

Another great part in the series is whenever Gorogoro and his dad (I forget his name) come in. "Lone Goat and Kid"...gotta love it!

That's exactly what it's playing off of. :)

I've read part of the Usagi Yojimbo manga. I didn't think I would like it (I don't usually read manga), but I really did! It was sort of addicting. :)
