My constant need to be right getting me really flustered

I got into this same argument on IMDB's Advent Children forum (be interesting to see if anyone here was on those forums, and maybe even argued with me, but perhaps I'd rather not know that) and got blasted... It really bothered me, and I've tried to leave it all with myself perfectly explained but the same people just don't let up... In any case, I've found it very hard to let something go and just let someone be wrong... I know I need to be able to do this if I don't want to die at a young age from unneccissary stress...

*sigh* This is just annoying... I get so frustrated with myself for not having any self control in this area... At the same time, i just get angry when people pick out minute portions of my argument and harp on them, instead of actually answering the statements I made... I mean, I know that most people on the internet aren't fair debators... I shouldn't get so upset, but I do...

I think a lot of us feel that way bobtheduck. I know message board people have made me curse before... I think it all falls back to the anonomity (sp) of the internet, causes people see other peoples posts as nothing, as under them and so in their mind it comes across as untrue and allows them to lamblast the poster before them about what falls through their pitiful minds.

Only thing I can suggest is to just let it go, they are not going to stop being morons, no matter what you say... People are people and that means they will be as pigheaded as they want until they get a smacking around (in its various forms), but its almost impossible to administer that through the internet.

It's not easy to change something that is so ingrained in one's psyche.

I used to be the same way – and sometimes I still am – but I’m getting better. :red:

You know what you need to do though, so may God bless you in getting it done.

I read the thread you linked to, and my first thought was, "Why does it matter?" BUT!!!!....then I realized that you're really concerned about your need to prove you're right when doggone it...you're right. That I can relate to! *rolls eyes*

One thing parenthood taught me was to pick my battles. Not everything's worth fighting for, and fighting for the unimportant things wastes precious time that could be spent fighting bigger battles. ;)

The second thing I've learned is that when I'm determined to prove myself right over something really inconsequential, it always stems from my pride. Pride causes all sorts of problems for me and for those around me, so...yeah. And it seems to be the toughest thing to kill. Shall I list all the anti-pride scriptures? I know them well. *sigh*

And then there're Paul's words, wisely spoken to the young Timothy (my underlines):

2 Timothy 2:23-24 But refuse foolish and ignorant speculations, knowing that they produce quarrels. The Lord's bond-servant must not be quarrelsome, but be kind to all, able to teach, patient when wronged...

So...well...yeah. :thumb:
You know whatcha gotta do. Let the bone go, Bob. Let the bone go. LOL!

I can relate; I have had a lot of difficulty letting minor points go. Most of the time it has nothing to do with the importance of the point itself, but the simple fact that is is the focus of contention.

A thought that was helpful to me, though I don't know if it will help you. Some people on the internet will not be convinced no matter what you write; these people aren't the type you should be concerned about anyway. Those that really matter will recognize idiocy for what it is, and even if they disagree with you, they'll do it in a manner that ignores pointless responses. So it isn't worth spending too much time fighting poor responses.

hmm...the topic that spawned this seemed to be merely one of those
"I say POHTATOES,you say POETATOES" kind of things that didn't seem like a biggie really.
