It May Not Be Japanese But....

It may not Japanese but I read on Yahoo's little news items that the Batman will not be fighting the villians of Gothan City but Osama bin Laden and his followers in a new graphic novel coming soon.

Comics have always been used as Propaganda. Just look at the Cover of the First Issue of Captain America.

Another thing to note is that Frank Miller is writing it.

Sold. The Dark Knight Returns is one of the best Bat-stories ever. Actually, I'd classify it as graphic literature, even.

If it's Frank Miller, it'll definitely be graphic, at least.

No kidding, I remember PBS years ago playing at night old World War II era cartoons with Superman really messing up Japanese war efforts, and believe me, Superman is a lot more effective at unfettered sabatoge than a band in gremlins in planes.

Anti-heroes such as Batman have a tendency to go All-American in wartime. But if Frank Miller is writing, then I think this will be coming from a different school of comics altogether. Interesting, though I likely won't ever run across it.

Far stranger are cartoons during WWII.

We HEIL! (phhht!) HEIL! (phhht!) Right in der Fuehrer's face
Not to love Der Fuehrer is a great disgrace
So we HEIL! (phhht!) HEIL! (phhht!) Right in der Fuehrer's face
When Herr Göbbels says, "We own der world und space"
We HEIL! (phhht!) HEIL! (phhht!) Right in Herr Göring's face
When Herr Göring says they'll never bomb this place
We HEIL! (phhht!) HEIL! (phhht!) Right in Herr Göring's face

Are we not the supermen
Aryan pure supermen
Ja we ist der supermen
Super-duper supermen.

Ist this Nutzi land not good?
Would you leave it if you could?
Ja this Nutzi land is good!
Vee would leave it if we could

We bring the world to order
Heil Hitler's new world order
Everyone of foreign race will love der Fuehrer's face
When we bring to der world disorder

When der Fuehrer says, "We ist der master race"
We HEIL! (phhht!) HEIL! (phhht!) Right in der Fuehrer's face
When Der Fuehrer says, "We ist der master race"
We HEIL! (phhht!) HEIL! (phhht!) Right in der Fuhrer's face
May the Lord bless you and keep you.
May He cause His face to shine upon you.
May He lift up His countenance and grant you peace.

...I'll assume you are asking that about the entire statement.

In most Batman stories, the police are bumbling idiots who are incapable of keeping the streets free of the insane criminals that run about Gotham's streets. Most of the time they get in Batman's way and many of them strongly dislike him (with notable exceptions). Batman is a vigilante on the edge of the law, using vicious and at times brutal tactics to beat up criminals. This Batman wears black and spends a lot of time in the shadows.

But in some periods of history, Batman has undergone a major transformation. He always works with the cheerful, compentant police officers, handing over criminals who have been neatly tied with Bat-rope (tm) and Bat-knots (tm). Suddenly things become black and white, with Batman wearing the white hat (and, generally, the preposterous blue tights). This Batman spends a lot of time grinning and prancing around heroically.

Actually the police of Gotham, with a few exceptions such as Gordon are all pretty much corrupt which is why Bruce Wayne had to become Batman in the first place.
Aside:Try Batman:Child of Dreams by the creator of Silent Mobius.
