Anyone here use Paypal?

Postby mitsuki lover » Mon Feb 13, 2006 2:20 pm

I was just wondering if there was anyone on the forum that uses Paypal.
I would like to know better how it works from people who actually use it so I can better decide wheter or not to get it to help pay for what I buy at
AnimeNation.

I use it on Ebay all the time. Never personally had any problems. I have run into people that claimed they did have issues, but these always seem to be well in the past, so the service may have had problems early on. I find it very convenient.

I use Paypal to pay for items that I buy through a board that trades dolls/doll clothing, etc. If you're dealing with private sellers online, then it's usually one of the only payment options out there - then it would be a good idea to get a paypal account and manage things from there. Just be VERY careful with who you deal with. I've heard horror stories very frequently about people getting scammed and Paypal doing absolutely squat.

Since you're not intending a Paypal account for a use like that, then I'd say you'd be better off using the payment method provided by Animenation - they have their own credit card payment system, correct?

Yeah, I never use Paypal for big ticket items, but then, I never buy big ticket items from eBay either. I had a lady who lied to me on an auction (said it was full version when in fact it was an upgrade), and then said she would send the difference back. I said, I want my money back. Paypal yielded little or no help on this, but fortunately I was able to scare her in other ways into refunding the total value.

Moral of the story is, don't expect Paypal to save you on a bad transaction. Assume that you're paying cash, and cash don't come back.

On the other hand, it is very convenient and all eBay sellers are required to accept credit cards, so it makes a nice way to pay. Also, you *could* dispute the charge on your credit card. Paypal will not like it, and may sanction you, but this could save you if a lot of money was involved.

I use paypal to pay for things, but I've never accepted paypal payments before. ebay already takes a percent of what you get for selling something, so the last thing I want is for paypal to take 10 percent more.

Also, since when has ebay required sellers to take credit cards? I've sold a good bit of things on ebay, and I've *never* accepted credit cards or paypal, and nobody ever said a word about it.

It is growing in acceptance. I've used it for purchases at chain stores like Tower Records. But I've never used it for more than $40 at a time either

I should clarify -- if you accept Paypal, you are required to have a Premier account, which accepts credit cards. Obviously, those who do not have a Paypal account are exempt, but for everyone else:

I've had a Premier account for some time, so this has not been an issue for me.

There are some questions of legality with Paypal - I believe a couple of states have banned them from operating there on the grounds that they're essentially running a bank without having a charter or abiding by banking regulations.

I'm in Washington state if that helps any.As far as it goes I only been purchasing from AnimeNation a couple times so far, paying via checks. The only reason why I would even consider getting Paypal would because it would be faster and the process of getting the order out would start sooner.
Don't have any credit cards so checks are the way I usually pay.
