Anime soundtracks

Postby true_noir_chloe » Sat Dec 27, 2003 7:29 pm

I'm not sure if this should go here or in the Jam Session section, so I put it here.

Every so often I find a really good soundtrack from anime. I was hoping you would like to share some of your favorites also. I rated them from 1 to 5 stars. If it has 4 or 5 stars I think it's a must have CD. Here's mine:

Listen or Die, OST for Read or Die (****)
Noir, OST 1 (*****)
Rahxephon, Pluralitas Concentio OST (*****)
Furi Kuri, don't know the exact name (***)
Evangelion, The Birthday of Rei Ayanami (****)
Witch Hunter Robin, OST (***)

[size=84][color=seagreen]YOU SEE

You see into the deepest part of me ---

beyond the fog I hide behind.

You cast your light upon the shadows

that stretch like cobwebs in my mind.

You ease the pain when I am hurting,

and morbid visions from my past

pierce into the realm of Reason

as though I danced on blades of glass.

You grant me strength when I have fallen

and, once again, I've lost my way.

You take my hand in Yours and lead me

into the promise of a brand new day.

You bring order to all my chaos,

yet set my well-laid plans awry.

You place me on a firm foundation ---

then give me wings so I can fly.

You sand away my roughened edges

and polish all the dullest parts

until I stand before Your presence...

a newly-sculpted work of art.

You see into the heart within me,

right through my motives and selfish will.

And yet, in spite of all You see

You say You love me even still.

I like the Bebop theme song. That's as far as my anime soundtrack knowledge goes. Opening Trigun is cool too.

That is a really good soundtrack, Yoda47. I think the group is called the Pillows. Have any of you heard of a CD titled, Fiction? It has a lot of the .hack music and some Noir music on it. That's actually pretty good.

I like the Princess Mononoke sdtk. I would give it (***1/2 or ****) because there are like 32 songs, and most of them are short. On some of them that is fine, but many I wish were longer. Great overall, if you like scores and such.

This should probably spawn a game soundtrack thread as well ...

I strongly recommend the Ranma 1/2 first season soundtrack (Viz/Allegro still sells it through Amazon Marketplace) ... the second one is also nice but the first has a number of superb vocal tracks as well as TV cues; the bits of the Akira soundtrack I've heard (particularly Kaneda's Theme) are good, and a friend of mine bought me the Armitage III soundtrack a couple years ago -- the music is quite good but the cover art is, uh ... let's just say that the CD is never actually in the CD case, but in an unmarked empty box, and the original jewel case is stuffed away never to see the light of the sun. The music is really good, though, just be warned about the cover art.

I have the Furuba soundtrack on order (it comes out in the States in February), as well as the first Ranma movie soundtrack, which has music cues from the last couple Ranma TV seasons. I probably should invest in some UY soundtracks, too. The Furuba one is all TV cues and music, so it should be good.

EDIT: I probably should note here that the friend above wasn't Christian ... sigh.

I agree about the Ranma 1/2 collections. Some very good stuff.

I also like a great deal of the Tenchi Muyo BGM and have many of those Cds.
Cowboy Bebop definately has some classic material and as Gypsy mentioned, Oh! My Goddess has some very nice selections.

I have started listening to a lot of the Initial D music (even though I have never watched the series). The techno is great for my morning exercise time. Maison Ikkoku Opening and Closings is also one of my favorites as are the Kimagure Orange Road CDs.

Yeah, the music is the best thing Initial D has going for it. I forgot about that and the Maison Ikkoku themes - those are excellent. Also, A Little Snow Fairy Sugar has a very warm soundtrack as well.

The Best of Inuyasha I agree is definitely five stars. I was just listening to Saiyuki, I don't know which one it is - it belongs to my daughter - and it had a lot of great songs; "Alone," "Open Up Your Mind," and the opening themes. It had music from both seasons.

I also agree that the Little Snow Fairy Sugar OST had some beautiful music.

I have a question for the Initial D fans. I've been wanting to buy the music, but which one of the soundtracks has the closing song in Japanese? I love that ending theme song. I went to the anime store and they had like ten CDs from Initial D.

I agree with others that The Vision of Escaflowne (Lovers Only) soundtrack is excellent--probably the best I own. I also really like the .Hack music in general, though I only own the EXTRA SOUNDTRACK. As a big Slayers fan, I own the Best of Slayers 2 CD soundtrack. For any fan of that series, it is a must have (vocal tracks from all 3 seasons plus the radio programs).

I just ordered one of the Maison soundtrack CDs last night ... myself, I love the Picasso tracks (particularly "Ci-ne-ma" from box set 2 ... the wind instrument backing is haunting *starry eyed*).

Hey - do the .Hack sdtk's have the instrumental tracks as well as the openers and stuff? I was watching the second vol. today, and I was quite impressed by some of the instrumental tracks. Also, how do you get anime cds, and how many .hack cds are there?

Alot. The ones you can get in the U.S come with the limited edition dvds. Theres two for sign, one for liminality and an extra soundtacks one. They come in limited editions 1-4. One is pretty hard to get ahold of cuz it was a super-special boxed set. The others you can get for around 35.00$ on amazon.

I buy my anime soundtracks at Asylum Anime, online and an anime store here in the Dallas area for around $12 - $20. I sometimes can find soundtracks at Suncoast, and those cost anywhere from $10 - $15. I have bought all the .hack boxed sets and that would be 4 .hack soundtracks which came with each set.

I also bought a great soundtrack the other day. It was a Cardcaptor Sakura, where there is a little window on the cover. I don't know the name of it, but it's not the OST. It has all the best songs from all the shows and the two movies. I'd give it 5 stars.:thumb:

I have only a few OSTs namely from YYH, RK and GW. This shows how updated I am with anime music. CBebop's soundtracks are probably the most recent soundtracks I listen to...go, Yoko Kanno! hehe
