Anyone got favorite painters?
Mine are as follows, in no particular order:

JACK VETTRIANO!!

Jack Vettriano is by far my favorite painter on earth. His use of bold colors and perspective are absolutely brilliant. Mind you, I don't suggest ALL of his paintings, but the majority of them are incredible. I plan to have prints of many of his works in my house and in my book store one day. A few of my favorite are:

Every year in Uganda, innumerable children simply. . . disappear. These children all stolen under the cover of darkness from their homes and impressed into the guerilla armies of the LRA [Lord's Resistance Army]. In the deserts of Uganda, they are forced to witness the mindless slaughter of other children until they themselves can do nothing but kill. Kill. These children, generally ranging from ages 5-12, are brainwashed into murdering in the name of the resistance and into stealing other children from their beds to suffer the same fate.
Because of this genocide of innocence, hundred and hundreds of children live every night sleeping in public places miles from their homes, because they know that if the do not-- they will disappear. They will become just another number in this genocide to which the international community has chosen to turn a blind eye. They will become, in affect, invisible-- Invisible Children.
But there are those who are trying to fight against this slaughter of Uganda's children. They fight to protect these "invisible children." Please, help them help a country full of children who know nothing by fear. Help save the innocence. Mary Cassatt and Leonardo DaVinci would probably be my favorites. I actually got to see a DaVinci painting at the Milwaukee Art Museum about a year ago, it was pretty amazing.

Well I know mangakas have done really nice water color paintings (like CLAMP^^)
But as for non-manga, I'm a Shim Shimmel fan cause I like the whole animals (mostly big cats) in space thing^^ Plus I just plain wuv kitties^^

Vincent Van Gogh is definitely my favorite. Also, I like Norman Rockwell...I love how his paintings portray life, and how intricate the details are! M.C. Escher is pretty cool, too, though.

I LOVE the French Impressionists. Monet was amazing as was Renoir. When Monet started this era of painting with Impression Sunrise (something like that right?) It really opened up a new world of painting what you SEE. I have learned A LOT from them and I use them a lot when I explain the art elements and principles to friends. ^_^

Totally. I'm pretty sure he died, though. How sad. He always made everything look so simple. Some of my most fond childhood memories are of watching my mom attempt to follow his lead with me sitting on the couch behind her, dropping cinnamon cheerios in her paint. I called it improvement.
I'm not really impressed by a lot of the usuals. I rarely enjoy looking at a piece of art that a million other people have raved about. Kinda turns me off. I really enjoy paying visits to our local arts council and taking a peek. I love it to death when I find something that makes me want to touch it or makes me feel like there's nothing else in the room. So to all the folk artists without a fancy degree or public acclaim: rock onward.
