Is that serious about Arkansas and Louisana? That seems a bit extreme,doncha think?
I guess being on the Left Coast you get used to people having a more liberal approach to life and things in general.
Now if Washington or California did something weird like that it really would be news.

Would it even be legal to ban an entire art form outright? I think that freedom of speech would at least force the state to allow the sale of some anime, although they can definately regulate sales to one extent or another. I think it would be very difficult for the state to justify such a move in court, and I could easily see several organizations fighting this type of thing.

No possibly way they could get away with banning anime outright in legislation. Maybe there was some crazy saying something about that but other than that I doubt there was any serious consideration to do that.

Oh no! There's no ban on anime here! It's just that anime fans aren't all that open.

I did a bit of an experiment last Saturday to prove my point. I drove through my local shopping center (Mostly because I was trying to get out of traffic), rolled down my windows, and played the theme song to Eva at near full blast. Only one girl, causassian, recognized the song, and when she saw me listening to it, she seemed a little amazed! I couldn't tell if her face was saying "OMG! That's the Eva theme!" or "OMG! It's a black dude listening to the Eva theme!" :lol:

:lol:
That was somewhat humourous.But to be serious again,I think that most people expect blacks to act a certain way because they are black.For example they expect when they hear a black drive by with his radio pumped up that he's listening to some form of rap.
That's probably why the white gal gave you that look,she was probably startled to find that there was at least one black who knows what anime is.

Yep! I listen to anime music more than I do anything else. :rock: I'm going to repeat this experiment next Saturday when I go to Target or Wal-Mart. Only this time, I'm going to play something people may recognise easily--the Pokemon theme, the Digmon theme and "Ready, Steady, Go!" from Fullmetal Alchemist. I intend to let you guys in on my results!

I find it quite nice when a black person drives by and isn't listening to rap. I like it when people break stereotypes.

But don't play the Digimon theme. O.O I love Digimon, but the theme...blehness.

Most black people I know are majorly extroverted and I'm....not, so there aren't a lot of them I'm friends with. But I do know some incredibly cool black people, like my old neighbor, my old roommate, and the security guard at my school.

I just wanted to clear up the fact I am completely white because my main nationality is Irish (I don`t have an Irish accent). The reason I posted this, is because looking at my avatar, I trick myself into thinking I`m black. XD

Two things I find deplorable about some blacks:
1.Speaking as though they were never taught proper English.
2.Talking about Slavery as though they were personally involved.
Hey,it ended with the Civil War and the 14th Amendment and then there was this thing called the Civil Rights Movement.You cannot blame Slavery for your problems today.

I could say similar things about some white people. Let's keep stereotypes out of this, even when caveated by the word "some," okay?

First off, I'm surprised that other people are surprised that you are black. Right underneath your avatar you have written "Black Dude+Socks=Me." That should have been a give-away.

That is awesome. I'd love to be there to see the reactions to the Pokemon theme blaring from a black man's car. I'd be happy, personally. It would mean we have the same taste in music. Over half my music collection (that I actually listen to) is anime.

I'm not black, but I have been mistaken for one lots of times. ^_^;

Most of the Indians I know either hate anime or don't care because they are either into rap, oldies rock or Bollywood movies and Hindi songs.

So, I guess that makes me one of the few Indo-Canadian people who like anime. :lol:

You know, I forgot all about that! Ah well, I'm just confirming it!

In all honesty, I'm pratically giddy about my experiment this Saturday. I mean, I wonder what kind of looks I'm going to get with my windows down playing "Ready Steady Go" or the Pokemon theme? It's really facinating, and I'll be sure to post the results!

Better yet try the theme from RahXephon.
I think one of the stereotypes people have of anime fans is that they're all pimply 12 to 14 year old Asian-American boys.

LOL. My co-teacher is Indian, and she asked me if I had ever seen a Bollywood movie. I said, "Yes, I've seen at least five. Do they all have singing and dancing in them?" She started laughing and said, "Yeah, I guess that most do..."

On the other subject, I'm as pasty of a white girl as can be, but I have close friends of lots of cultures. One of my good black friends and I used to talk about how she liked anime, manga, and geek stuff, and how that was not really acceptable in the African-American culture. She also complained that she tended to be quiet and not have the type of personality her black friends and even the people at her church thought she should have. Even though 'black' may be a race, I would probably think of "African-American" as a culture more than a race, with defined social norms and patterns of expected behavior.

Eh, I say break all stereotypes! Go crazy! Watch anime! Let them eat cake! (Don't know where THAT came from. . .)

Anyhow, I think that people should be able to do whatever they want without having so much expected of them. Sheesh. :P
Be Thou my Vision, O Lord of my heart;
Naught be all else to me, save that Thou art
Thou my best Thought, by day or by night,
Waking or sleeping, Thy presence my light.

Be Thou my Wisdom, and Thou my true Word;
I ever with Thee and Thou with me, Lord;
Thou my great Father, I Thy true son;
Thou in me dwelling, and I with Thee one.

Be Thou my battle Shield, Sword for the fight;
Be Thou my Dignity, Thou my Delight;
Thou my soul’s Shelter, Thou my high Tower:
Raise Thou me heavenward, O Power of my power.

Riches I heed not, nor man’s empty praise,
Thou mine Inheritance, now and always:
Thou and Thou only, first in my heart,
High King of Heaven, my Treasure Thou art.

Well I think I'm probably the palest white you could get; but I don't judge by color I try to wait till I actually see the way that person acts and the personality and mannerisms they have.

Generally when the majority of group A does something, you expect somebody who is part of group A to act a certain way. We all have preconceived notions of people, yes we can (and should) have the following mentality of "Well I made an intial judgement, but I will set it aside and try to see if I am right or not". We as people, cannot help to not have an initial judgement of people, however we ought to see if the initial judgement is accurate to the person we are judgeing.
