the GitS: Stand Alone Complex ending

Postby Tenshi no Ai » Thu Jan 26, 2006 3:37 pm

(When I say "ending" I mean the end. video, so no spoilers in here^^)

It's something I've always wondered, so now I'm gunna ask:

Ok, I know some shows that are 26 eps typically have 2 endings, and used to think that the original ending was different from the licensed one, possibly because it was 1 of 2, and some companies don't like changing the endings and only add it to extras. And as for skimpy shots of Kunisagi, I'd say the licensed version shows a lot more skin than the orginal ending does!

So... anyone know a reason? I think I might've heard one before, but I really can't remember :/

Am not quite sure what you mean? are you asking if the stand alone complex ending is different than the original ghost in the shell film? (if so yes it is), or were you asking if stand alone complex had 1 ending at say ep 25 and different ending at 26? (if so then no).

there is also a sequal to stand alone complex, SAC 2nd Gig.

I've seen all of Stand Alone Complex and I am watching 2nd Gig as Adult Swim releases it, so I'd be interested in this discussion. The ending of Stand Alone Complex is ambiguous enough (I refer to the laughing man, not the issue of the military team) that I think is deserves discussion.

However, I'd also like a bit of clarification. I'm not certain I completely understand you.

Like I mentioned in the brackets, the ending VIDEO sequence. AKA Where the song "Lithium Flower" plays (understand?)

Yes, I see what you mean now. However, I'm fairly certain that Adult Swim's original run used the same ending the entire time and I do not know why they did this.

Their policy has always been to run only one ending, and I am uncertain why (this was certainly unwise for the last episode of Trigun, in which the final credits are critical). It is the same with Fullmetal Alchemist, where they have only recently changed the opening. It is possible this is somehow cheaper for them, but I have never seen an executive offer any reasoning.

The odd thing about it I find, is I have yet to see the Adult Swim/YTV ending on the orginal version :/ If I miss an episode I will download it, and it's always the same ending on there (instead of random pics, including the covers of our licensed DVD covers, it shows scrolling pics of each of the main characters). Looks as if they just threw the random pics together and made their own ending!

the ending on AS' broadcast was sped up/cut down and had I think two alternate art pieces, one replaced a backside pan of Motoko without a shirt with a shot of the entire team in Aramaki's office. I cant say for sure about the other because I've been watching less and less of their programming lately

Another odd thing... in the YTV version, we get both pics. The orginal version only has a shot of her skimpy bathing suit-like suit that she always wears, but from a back view of her. *shrugs* the other one seems worse to me. ...so YTV airs the shirtless pic (without actually seeing anything) and yet doesn't air the ep "Jungle Cruise" until a month later because of the violent content.

I have all the GITS:SAC DVD's and there is only that one shot of Motoko's backside in every one of them.

I do believe there is most assuredly a huge difference between immodesty and hacking people to force them to watch their own vivisections.
