Talk about anything in here.

I know how you feel, it is natural to fear the unknown and the amazing things God has for us by His side we can't even comprehend ^^

When I was little, I was scared to death of the book of Revelation. But then, I was a rather neurotic child, and anything even mildly frightening had me running and screaming from the room.

The sunday school I went to never mentioned eternity other than in passing (ie. heaven and angels) so I never really thought about it till around 7th or 8th grade (and even then, not very heavily). But now, it's something that doesn't really scare me, but is more something that I just can't wrap my mind around. But in the end, that's okay with me, since we're not supposed to be able to understand.

Last fall, on retreat with Campus Crusades, we had a speaker give two talks on eternal perspective, one on heaven and one on hell. Really made one think. Some of my favorite things that the speaker said were that we should make it our occupation to depopulate hell, and that heaven will be an amazing experience that no one should miss. I really need to go read through my notes on his talks again, there's some pretty good stuff there.

Try these on for size:

1 - I absolutely recommend that everyone read CS Lewis' 'The Last Battle', it's the last book in the Chronicles of Narnia. Right at the end you get a very cool concept of heaven that suggests that rather than scare you, heaven will take your breath away.

2 - Another notion is that heaven will be expansive, another brand new universe. Some one once considered (perhaps it was Lewis again) that God will send us out from our New Earth across the universe to tell all his new creations and new races what happened on the old earth and all He did for us, and to tell of His love. I expect we shall also have quite a new perspective on things.

I'll take any universe that doesn't have liver for dinner in it!

Now to be serious.
I personally stopped worrying about Revelation when I realized it was an allegory about the Fall of Jerusalem.
As far as what Heaven will be like...who knows?

Dude, that is a can of worms that did NOT need to be opened in this thread... >.>;;

*hopes people will ignore it for the sake of keeping this thread free of theological debate*

This thread reminds me of a discussion I had in Sunday School one morning. Our teacher was talking about how Christians will spend forever in Heaven, praising God for eternity. Me and another girl in my class sat in stunned silence, thinking it over. It was awesome that we would always be in Paradise, but then, the realization hit us. Eternity is, like... a long time.
"Whoa... forever..."
"FOREVER."
"GAH!"
We still laugh about it. But, I must admit, the thought is a little scary, but that's probably because the human mind can't fully comprehend it. I mean, can you think of a better way to spend an infinite number of years?

The simplest way that I can understand therapy is that we're born a certain way, we're taught to be something different, and we spend our whole lives trying to unravel it and ultimately align ourselves with who we really are. Life, experiences, traumas -- whatever -- they all add up to make you some altered version of what you are. So there's this battle that goes on between what you are and what you become, and it's been very important for me to unravel what I was taught to be or what I became. and to draw a direct parallel to music -- the closer I get back to being who I really am, the stronger the music gets..." --Billy Corgan (Smashing Pumpkins frontman)

I wouldn't say it scares me. I rather look forward to it. I have no doubt that it will be far more interesting than it is living on Earth. The thing I am scared of most I would say is not accomplishing enough for God in my time here on Earth.
