Favourite fruit

Postby Warrior4Christ » Tue Jan 24, 2006 4:14 am

What are/is your favourite fruit(s)?

I like lots of fruits, but the ones that make it to the top of the list would have to be:
- mangoes (SOOOO GOOD!!)
- white flesh nectarines from our tree (I have never tasted any that came close to as good as the few that appear on our tree)
- juicy, properly ripened pineapple
- to a lesser extent, peaches (but still good)

Actually, those three (not pineapple... well, it might be in season, but I'm not sure...) are in season at the moment, which kind of prompted me to make this topic. ;) ...And are in decent quanties in our fridge, thus keeping me happy. :)

Since I nearly wrestled my sister to the ground for the last one, I would definitely say strawberries. Mangos, apples, and plums are close runner-ups, though.

Strictly speaking its a vegetable, just like tomato is a fruit, but nobody really considers them to be, except on biology tests.

mangoes, i'll have to say, but they are rediculously expensive here....
so the next would be pineapple.

We got a box of 20 mangos for $6 (AU), but they were 'seconds', with slight bruises and whatnot. :)

What makes a watermelon a vegetable?? I thought the seeds made it a fruit...? That's what made tomatoes and cucumbers fruits...

it's usually $1.25 AU (bwahaha) (on sale) - $2.00 AU (not on sale) per mango here

gotta love those currency converters!

I heard from the TV once that watermelons are actually berries. Why are things so confusing?

Can't they just classify all edibles between meat and non-meat? :)

They aren't trying to confuse you; they're just trying to be more accurate. And any cook can tell you it doesn't matter how you "classify" a food, you still have to learn to handle each one individually. At best, you can draw parallels, hence considering tomatos, peppers, squashes and eggplant "vegetables", or lumping most of the sweet tree, bush, and vine crops together as "Fruit"

My fruit loves? It depends on whether store-bought or fresh from the tree.
From my sister-in-law's trees in Louisana I can occasionally eat the finest mandarin oranges and kumquats you can imagine. I wouldn't give a half-cent for the ones in the store. And, until it died of storm damage, my peach tree produced little drops of heaven that blew away anything at the market.

Strawberries from the garden are beautiful. Strawberries from the market are hit-and-miss.

Also, mangos, but you have to go to Southeast Asia to find out what they should really taste like. While you're there, get some finger bananas in the market that were picked fully ripe.

From the supermarket? There is nothing better than a truly sweet fresh pineapple, a perfectly ripe avocado, or good sweet Black Spanish grapes.
May the Lord bless you and keep you.
May He cause His face to shine upon you.
May He lift up His countenance and grant you peace.

I used to freshly pick srtawberries and blueberries with my grandparents. Yum! I love apples, especially Gala and Golden Delicious. I don't like pineapple, but that's because I got food poisoning once from "frozen" pineapple that hadn't been frozen properly. Oh, and I like pears, but they have to be perfectly in season.

Oh boy, well, I'd have to say my favorite fruit HERE is probably either strawberries or blueberrys, but when I went to the Dominican Republic this past summer, we had FRESH FRUIT FOR BREAKFAST EVERYDAY. Fresh picked pinapple was absolutely heavenly, and definitely my favorite.

On the flip side, papaya is sooo gross! Seriously, it's about the worst tasting fruit I've ever had. It's hardly even sweet, and it's really stringy, so it gets caught in your teeth. Yuck.
Be Thou my Vision, O Lord of my heart;
Naught be all else to me, save that Thou art
Thou my best Thought, by day or by night,
Waking or sleeping, Thy presence my light.

Be Thou my Wisdom, and Thou my true Word;
I ever with Thee and Thou with me, Lord;
Thou my great Father, I Thy true son;
Thou in me dwelling, and I with Thee one.

Be Thou my battle Shield, Sword for the fight;
Be Thou my Dignity, Thou my Delight;
Thou my soul’s Shelter, Thou my high Tower:
Raise Thou me heavenward, O Power of my power.

Riches I heed not, nor man’s empty praise,
Thou mine Inheritance, now and always:
Thou and Thou only, first in my heart,
High King of Heaven, my Treasure Thou art.

High King of Heaven, my victory won,
May I reach Heaven’s joys, O bright Heaven’s Sun!
Heart of my own heart, whatever befall,
Still be my Vision, O Ruler of all.

For those of you who don't like papaya, you should try dried papaya. It's really good.

Good apples (i.e. cooking apples or a similar tart variety, red delicious and other mass-produced apples taste terrible), strawberries, raspberries, and blueberries. There's a farmer's market most saturdays at our state capitol and I sometimes go when fruit is in season and buy wonderful fruit.
