Nooo!! I Missed last night's showings... What did they show... Porco Rosso I don't really care about, but Whisper of the Heart? Is that the first part to "the cat returns" The reason it's called "the cat returns"? I wanted to see that one, and I missed it... I've never seen Porco Rosso either... Man... I completely forgot about it, on the most important day to watch!!

I can't miss "only yesterday"... Grr... I need to see that one.

Yeah, Nausicaa does have pants... You can see the fabric in them waving in some of her flying scenes, and it does have a slightly different shade than her skin.

EDIT: I didnt' mean to post twice in a row, it's early... I'm still supposed to be asleep, by all reasonable standards...

Funny thing, taste. I really like Porco Rosso. I thought it had a really good story.

I was surprised to hear Dakota Fanning in the lead role of Totoro. I have the Fox version of the movie. I'll have to watch it to day to compare acting and translations.

Was anyone else surprised, and perhaps a bit amused, at the prominence of “Country Roadâ€

Whisper of the Heart is IMO, the best movie of them all, hands down.

Wasn't gunna watch Totoro (cause I already watched the Fox dub of it a while ago and planning on buying it anyways) but since it JUSt came on when I turned on the TV, I watched it. Forgot how cute it was^^

Porco Russo never interested me when it came onto DVD and my expectations were met :/ One of those I'd watch it once just to see it and not again movies :/ Well, since it was one of Miyazaki's "movies for old men like himself" maybe it was why I didn't really appreciate it^^ One thing mad me mad on it:
HE NEVER TELLS WHY HE TURNED INTO A PIG!! I'm assuming it has to do when his buddies died and he lived, but still :/
Whisper of the Heart, I taped^^ Even if the movies are on 3 hrs earlier for me and I was watchign them all in subbed form, I needed rest to start on some college assignments today :/ So haven't watched it yet.

Oh and BTW: anyone else have tough time reading the white subs? Specially in Porco there was so much white in the movie it was too hard to read! (Specially from a distance on a small TV :/)

I watched most of Whisper of the Heart last night (taped the sub...I had to sleep, haha!), and I loved what I saw of it! I'll have to watch the rest of it today, but I've loved it so far!!

Also, I watched the first hour of Totoro in subs, and OH MY GOSH. It's SO adorable!!! Little Mei was TOO CUTE!! I think I want to buy that one on dvd, it was SO cute!!

I missed Porco Rosso, but I'm thinking about renting several movies off Netflix...That might as well be one of them, along with The Cat Returns. :thumb:

Oooh, and news! Whisper of the Heart will be released on DVD March 7 of '06, according to FYE.com! I might have to buy that one...:jump:

Cary Elwes is the VA that played the Baron in both movies. As for Muta, I don't know.

I thought I was only seeing thigns when I saw that! ...of course they said how they foudn the clock in the castle and hmm... the prince was and elf and the girl was a fairy so "different species"... *shrugs*

I finally finished watching Whisper and it was alright. A very slow moving show, and after watching Graveyard, I wasn't thrilled about that movie^^ Bought and sold it cause it was the most depressing thing I've ever seen! Hopefully Pom Poko goes good (since it's all by the same director, what's-his-face :/) Pom Poko was one title that looked interesting but I didn't want to buy blindly :/ ...can't remember if Only Yesterday was directed by the same guy and I'll watch it just because, but doesn't look to be my taste really :/

My bad, Isao Takahata (was too lazy to look up before) didn't even direct Whisper. He did Pom Poko, Graveyard, Only Yesterday, and Yamadas.

Only Yesterday is a snoozer, in my mind. It's about a lady revisiting her past on a trip home.

Pom Poko is hilarious, but you need to be forwarned that... um... well... certain masculine body parts are occassionally featured (in a humorous, but potentially offensive to a Westerner, way.) Its about Racoon-Bears (called Racoons in the movie) trying to deal with encroaching human civilization.
May the Lord bless you and keep you.
May He cause His face to shine upon you.
May He lift up His countenance and grant you peace.

Maokun: Ninjas or Pirates? (Vikings are not a valid answer, sorry)

EricTheFred: Vikings are always a valid answer.

Largo: "Well Ed, good to see ya. Guess I gotta beat the crap out of you now."

Jamie Hyneman: "It's just another lovely day at the bomb range. Birds are singing, rabbits are hopping about, and soon there's going to be a big explosion."

Muta (called Moon, except for one scene, in Whispers of the Heart) has no voice in that movie, unless he meows at some point that I don't recall. I can't imagine him bothering. Note that I have never seen the Dub of this, though (my copy is Japanese with sub) so this may be different in the Disney version.

I've never seen The Cat Returns, but I have seen the DVD cover occasionally in stores -- and now that I've seen Whisper of the Heart, I can't help but wonder: Is The Cat Returns supposed to be the sequel?

I just solve the problem by calling them "Tanookis". ^^

As someone else posted on here, it isn't really a direct sequel. Or you can just say that lots happened between the 2 movies and leave it at that^^ But it's a real nice, but movie (I've seen it 3 times already :/) Twice dubbed and once subbed actually. I say it's good either way (cept the dubtitles are a little annoying in the subbed version as they try and make it match the english version, but you can obviously tell it's not what they're saying :/)

I just watched Only Yesterday. I loved the fact that they ended it with a Japanese version of "The Rose". That's one of my all-time favorite songs.
As for Pom Poko , I enjoyed it, but I thought it was too preachy.

That's because it's "so Japanese" that they didn't think it'd sell well. :shake:

It's rated PG. They probably might not mind, unless they're against Buddhism and environmentalism.
