Looking older/younger than you are...?

Talk about anything in here.

Postby Slater » Tue Jan 17, 2006 2:21 pm

I'm beginning to wonder...

Do people really look younger than they really are, or do people just have the wrong images of what an x-year old should look like? o.O

You know, I think it's a combination of both. My non-Asian friends usually comment on how they think a lot of Asian people look younger then they really are - and it's not just the height either, it's the facial features too, or so I'm told. So at least in my case, some people aren't used to seeing little Asian girls very often, so they assume I'm younger. Or something like that. XD

;____; <-- That happened to me. It was absolutely worse when I was seen standing around with my baby sister. I'm not a teen mom!! ;_;!! And I'm asian! >___< I think it's because I'm chubbier than the average asian.

Most definately. When I was 18, more than a few people have confused me to be in the 25-27 year old catagory. But after shaving away the facial hair, people see me as in the 21-23 area.

Funny how much a lack of sleep can do to you in the long run. :)

I've almost always been mistaken for being a few years older than I really am. The worst though was when I went to Canada with a good friend of mine and even though she's three years older than me a lot of people thought we were married (we were acting nothing like a couple at all.) Anyway one of the people at the wedding thought I was 25 and that was when I was 17.

Over the summer I had 5 or 6 people that thought I was 15, but I don't see many people that I don't know that I find out how old they think I am, so I'm not sure how old peolpe think I look.

Hmmm... everyone that's guessed my age has been spot on, within a week.

j/k.

I guess I look around the age that I am. I was told once that I look a bit older than my age, but that's the only comment I can recall ever getting about the matter.

My age doesn't really come up in conversation much.

When I was twelve I could pass for a fourteen year-old, and still can.
People expect girls my age to have straightened, dyed hair, skin-tight jeans and 'shirts', and a ton of make-up.
By not going with the trends, I look younger.
It's kinda nice; the guys-to-be-avoided don't pay me as much attention.

It's kinda nice]I think natural is better anyway, though I can rember geting a few girls upset at me for saying so, when I was younger. I don't realy care much for the current clothing "styles" (if you can call it style) either. I think next to honesty, modesty is the best policy. I'm not talking about puritan or tradistion muslim "modesty", I mean more loose t-shirts and jeans that don't cling so much, or a style that is simular in coverage. After all Girls don't need to be immodest to be cool or look pretty.

Any way back on topic, or at least one simular, Why does it seem like some people, when they're younger speend so much time trying to look "older" then try the opposite when they are older?
Why can't the media stop pushing such ideas, and let people be who theuy are? ANd Why can't the capitlist money hogs find other ways to satisfy their greed?

People generally tend to think I look older than I really am (but I can't say how old I really am, so that doesn't tell y'all much, lol.) And sadly, a lot of people say I look older than Osaka. . . sorry sis! :lol: (She gets mad when people say that.)
Be Thou my Vision, O Lord of my heart;
Naught be all else to me, save that Thou art
Thou my best Thought, by day or by night,
Waking or sleeping, Thy presence my light.

Be Thou my Wisdom, and Thou my true Word;
I ever with Thee and Thou with me, Lord;
Thou my great Father, I Thy true son;
Thou in me dwelling, and I with Thee one.

Be Thou my battle Shield, Sword for the fight;
Be Thou my Dignity, Thou my Delight;
Thou my soul’s Shelter, Thou my high Tower:
Raise Thou me heavenward, O Power of my power.

Thou mine Inheritance, now and always:
Thou and Thou only, first in my heart,

my school goes through grades 6-12. i'm 15. people frequently mistake me for a 7th or 8th grader. i was charged for a child's ticket (max. age for that is 12) at the movies. but my father beats me by a long shot. he's 50 and they asked him for his ID in the grocery store when he bought a bottle of wine. i hope i look that young when i'm his age.

Hmm. I think that people assume I'm older than I am.

I'm 16 and I've had about six people throughout my life ask me if I'm my dad's wife. He's like... 46.

And when I was in 8th grade a college dude tried to flirt with me till I told him what grade I was in. Then he freaked out and ran away. It was funny.

*sigh* I suppose thats life eh?

hm...I used to have people thinking i was 20 when i was like..14/15. Then when I was 19, I had people thinking my brother was the OLDER (he's 2 years younger o.o)sibling. and uh.....now, nobody guesses. ^_^;; I guess once you hit 20, people are scared to guess how old you are for fear of insulting? i dunno..

When I was younger people would always think I was several years older than I actually was as I am quite tall (6' 8" right now, but even in elementary school I was a good bit taller than usual). People think I look my age right now, but height matters alot less when you get into your twenties.
