Textless browsing

Postby Icarus » Wed Jan 11, 2006 1:41 am

Every once in a while, I use Links for browsing sites that are text heavy. The controls aren't that hard to figure out (if you have Links2, the mouse works for clicking hyperlinks), and are pretty simple after a while. But the really cool thing is that download speed is 3-5 times faster than when I use Firefox. With Firefox, the maximum sustained speed that I get is around 50 KB/sec, and it can vary down to 20. Links, on the other hand, gets upwards of 150.

A prime example is right now. I'm downloading the iso for Gentoo Linus at 158 KB/sec. I had tried Firefox earlier, and the fastest was 40, but the speed fell steadily until I got fed up with waiting. So, instead of having to wait some four hours, I just have another fourty minutes.

In closing, I'd like to say that the command line is more fun than you'd think.

So you mean graphic-less browsing, not text-less? :)

I use good old fashioned Lynx a fair bit.

It's amazing what happens when you're in a hurry. Yes, I meant graphicless.
