Question: can Foxes be kept as pets?

Talk about anything in here.

Postby ChristianKitsune » Sun Jan 08, 2006 9:49 pm

LOL! ok then! ^_^ I won't hold it against you..I mean..Foxes are strong and cunning creatures... so farm animals probably wouldn't stand a chance! (i hope that doesn't sound mean...I only meant that they are domesticated..and Foxes are..wild....so..sorry if that offended anyone..)

but where I live Foxes aren't really as much as a threat as much as coyotes are...

(thanks!! ^_^ )

Can you foxes be kept as pets?

Well, not in Australia! (lol)

vermin, evil little things kill native birds and other wildlife - feral beasts of the underworld mwwah hah ha

Hey what about cats then? They kill stuff all the time out here. :)

Well if dingos were brought to America they would be the same! ^_^

But dingoes are human loving carnivores. They are so cute and harmless. ^_^

I don't think foxes are big enough to pose much of a threat to animals other than cats and chickens.

Hey, God made 'em.

Anyway, dogs are more of a threat to livestock in the long run. Foxes will get into chicken coops, but dogs can take calves, young horses, sheep, etc...but most people aren't against keeping dogs.

Better ask you mom about it CR and do be careful it doesn't go over the fence, remember the hawk?

Why must we be abandoned in times of need?
Do others not see when we yearn for their touch;
An insatiable hunger only they can feed.
Left alone with out their words – fallen into darkness.
Stumbling blindly without their light,
We fall and scream, knowing we've faced too much,
Knowing the only answer is flight.
Flight from the lives we once faced
And the joys and terrors others have brought.
Our time with them, a time of joy and life,
Wonder we all, was it for naught?

Haven't read much Redwall, have you?

Anyway, I'd rather have an ocelot than a fox(I'm a cat person), but I don't think there would be too much of a problem if you had it vaccinated.

Yes, Heart of Sword, but we also live in a fallen world and animals do like to eat meat.
Foxes are big pests here, not just for chickens or whathaveyou but for all Australian wild-life, even more so than rats (although they don't breed as quickly).

Actually, yea I have read some redwall good series!! I love SunMace the Badger!!! and his hawk buddy!!!

but I am talking about tiny foxes...not those big Red ones they have in Europe. OOH A FENNEC FOX WOULD BE AWESOME!! only they live in africa...-.-

I am right about the Uber Fox Aren't I W4J? They are like Arnold Swartzafoxes right?! I saw one once it was Steve Irwin's show. He even ran from it!!!

I kid..I kid.... But wouldn't that be terrifying! Both Cute AND Strong!!

I think it would be awesome!!!

According to this site, at least this one breed of fox may not be legal to own, depending on where you live. And it may not be wise to own, regardless.

Yep, He did make them. He also made us...we do worse things than any animal could pull off...

Australian foxes must be different than the ones over here, then. The ones here are little.

Feh, no animal is totally clean. Dogs have fleas and puke on your rug (like mine did last night, haha), cats leave smelly places all over your house because they're territorial, gerbils and hamsters smell like crap (as does a dirty dog, hehe), and fish grow algae in their cages. No matter what kind of animal it is, it can always be dirty. But monkeys sure are cute!! XD And they pick fleas off of...things. So uh...I see signs of hygene!

I'd also like a platypus...That'd totally rock. XD

Yes, but some monkeys are trained to be that way, such as the monkeys belonging to organ grinders.

ChristianRonin, as far as your story goes, I don't think having a fox as a pet is a bad idea. However, I have to correct you on a minor error. I have no doubt a fox bite can be painful and may carry a lot of germs, but the fox is not poisonous. The only known mammal with a poisonous bite is the shrew.

That last bit sounds funny 'cause I was born in the year of the Rat.
