Another thing you would have to take into account would be 98% of who? Teens in America? World-wide? Just in the state of Utah? I would imagine there are some areas of the country where this stat would be higher then others...but still its a bogus claim.

Yes, apparantly the quest for finding how to make the most accurate survey is ongoing (for professional pollsters anyhow). Most reliable poll groups say what method they used and what the percentage of error is likely to be. For that sig stat to be taken seriously we would need to have this data so others could evaluate it.

98% of the voices in my head think that most people put that line in their sig as a joke, rather than as a statement of belief. If you're part of the 2% who don't, then get out of my head. (it's a stupid line, but still... think badger badger badger...)

And what would you mean by that? Whatever...I would have expected this thread to be locked by now, since it's a debate and the whole site could collapse in on itself or something...and then, if the CAA collapses in on itself, the world could follow, and so could all the planets all the way up to Pluto...something tells me that if I had started this thread, it would have been locked. I never posted one of the 98% sigs. However I will confess that I never realised how unlikely that statistic was untill Arc posted it. I am glad I did not put it in my sig, cause I would be feeling pretty silly about now if I did. I think it is good that this was pointed out.

Statistics show that 98% of teenagers believe in 98% of statistics claiming that 98% of teens smoked pot. If you are 2% of the 2% of the 2% that does not, then put this in your signature.

This is by far the silliest debate I've ever seen here on the CAA. When even a mod starts arguing over things like this... I understand the original intention was good, but something like this is only going to step on people's toes, as it already has. Why doesn't a mod just lock this and then everyone else just use your time much more wisely doing other things?
