Full Moon O Sagashite Anime Licensed By Viz

Postby Rev. Doc » Fri Jan 06, 2006 1:04 pm

Well, this should make a number of our folks here happy. It would appear from a listing on RightStuf International's site that Viz has licensed Full Moon O Sagashite and will begin releasing it on June 27th.

http://www.rightstuf.com/1-800-338-6827/catalogmgr/sFWLM4d40fJXLyKqv0/browse/item/68846/4/0/0

Anime On DVD has also listed this.

That's great news, BUT I am wondering what the dubbing will be like. Americans don't have the best track record for keeping voices similar to the original, and I am especially worried about Mitsuki's and Meroko's voices. However, now that I have said that negative stuff, I must say that if they get good voice actors, it will be really wonderful to have such a great show on American TV.

EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE! How fantastic! I can't wait to see this...maybe the boxset will be out by my next birthday or Christmas (both of which hit 2006)! I wonder how they'll handle the songs...? And I would LOVE to see Kirby Morrow as Takuto.

*breaths into a paper bag*

This. is. freakin'. awesome. I hope that the DVDs are really pretty and well-packaged.
Every year in Uganda, innumerable children simply. . . disappear. These children all stolen under the cover of darkness from their homes and impressed into the guerilla armies of the LRA [Lord's Resistance Army]. In the deserts of Uganda, they are forced to witness the mindless slaughter of other children until they themselves can do nothing but kill. Kill. These children, generally ranging from ages 5-12, are brainwashed into murdering in the name of the resistance and into stealing other children from their beds to suffer the same fate.

Because of this genocide of innocence, hundred and hundreds of children live every night sleeping in public places miles from their homes, because they know that if the do not-- they will disappear. They will become just another number in this genocide to which the international community has chosen to turn a blind eye. They will become, in affect, invisible-- Invisible Children.

But there are those who are trying to fight against this slaughter of Uganda's children. They fight to protect these "invisible children." Please, help them help a country full of children who know nothing by fear. Help save the innocence. For more information concerning how you can help and how you can get an incredible video about this horrific reality, visit the Invisible Children home page.

I'd worry a tad, being Viz's recent ideas of dub only DVDs and the dub only/sub only disks with their Shonen Jump ones :/ Yaya 3 eps a disk for an over 50 ep series! Might take a while to release...

I'm actually kind of happy at the thought of a dub, as long as they get good voice actors. The one thing that really bothered me about the Japanese version was that Mitsuki's voice didn't seem to match up to whoever they hired to sing the songs Mitsuki was supposed to be singing.

I really hope they can find an actress who can pull off a cute little girl voice and belt out songs professionally and beautifully. There's got to be some voice actresses out there who are also accomplished singers as well.

I imagine they will give this the same treatment that they are giving Hikaru No Go which is over 70 episodes long. Dub/Sub with 4 episodes a volume. More than likely the songs will remain in Japanese with English subtitles.

I agree. I imagine any attempt at dubbing the songs in the show would be both costly and very dissatisfying to the shows faithful fan base.

I believe the anime is 56 episodes. 56 or 52, I can't remember for sure. It's a lot of filler, but it's not wholly dissatisfying. I fell in love with the anime before I read the manga.

Oh, I don't know. I liked the job they did with the Ranma OAV songs (but they did keep the originals on the discs, too). On the other hand, it is quite expensive to redo everything.

I think this is a good thing -- Viz usually contracts with good VA studios.

I guess it would be expensive to redo both songs and dialogue in English.

It's not that I dislike the Japanese songs, or the singer's voice - I just never felt that the singer's voice fit Mitsuki.

It's good to know that Viz uses competent VA studios - Thanks for that reassurance, Shooraijin!

Another thing, though, is that Viz doesn't tend to subtitle the songs of some of their series. Hana Yori Dango and Maison Ikkoku don't have song subtitles, so you're left in the dark about the lyrics (which I hate).

Really? I could have sworn there were subtitles on the Maison Ikkoku songs ... I'll have to look at that.

Ack, that always happens right when I'm in the middle of watching an unlicensed series... I was up to around episode 10 in this series, but now I can't watch anymore in good conscience. XD Well, I'll have to wait until they release it, then! :)

I'm pretty sure, cuz the second ending theme I really like and always grumble in frustration about not seeing the lyrics. If you do find that it's on there, let me know which subtitle track they're on.

I also remember that Inuyasha DVDs didn't have lyrics either, which is a shame since those ending themes are so good, too.

I didn't if there was an anime of that. I would love to see an anime of Jeanne, regardless of the company releasing it. I just finished the first volume of the manga and it was really good, especially the humor.

If I'm not mistaken, the fansubbed version of the anime version of Phantom Thief Jeanne is reviewed here. At any rate, I do remember reading in Anime Insider that one existed.

You are correct; I'm the one that wrote that review! I would also love to see a Phantom Theif Jeanne anime released, but I'm not sure I'd want Viz doing it. Maybe ADV, or Pioneer?

It just occurred to me...Who are they going to have as the voice of Mitsuki? I mean, the songs are an integral part of Full Moon, so I really hope they do a good job! I LOVED the songs (what I was able to hear before it was licensed, haha) in the sub, and I loved the voice of the girl who sang, too (she didn't have that "through the nose" quality as much as some of the other J-pop singers do...Don'tget me wrong, I love all kinds of J-pop, but I really thought myco had a rich voice). I hope they get someone good to voice her! And I agree, Ashley...Kirby Morrow would be a perfect Takuto! :thumb:

Just an update on this, RightStuf International who originally posted the release of Full Moon has now taken it off line. More than likely this means Viz was not ready for this information to be made public. We'll try to keep a watch on this.
