News about me

Postby Bobtheduck » Sat Jan 07, 2006 12:22 pm

Today was a turn of events I wouldn't have been able to guess last week. Yesterday, I had gotten a call from Westwood college about coming in for open house... I desperately wanted to start school again, but had been let down by my parents' insistance that a job came first.

Well, I asked about it anyway, and my Dad agreed to take me (I don't drive... I neglected getting my license, and even if I did he wouldn't let me drive his truck, which is the only vehicle available to me) and we went to see the representative today.

Just being there, I was very excited, but I didn't expect much. I know my parents are against cosigning for anything, and that would have been required for the Plus loans, which I will need for about 1/3 of my costs... Well, when the funding was all explained to my Dad, he agreed to do his part for the plus. I went through the application process and got through the first part, of 3.

The second portion of the process is a placement test to see where I place in Gen ed classes... I was scared because my math is a bit poor right now, I was affraid I wouldn't pass that portion. I looked over the study guide, and the test will pretty much just take me to elementary algebra, which is very easy. I am almost certain I will have no problem with the placement test.

The third part is Financial aid. Basically, it's not a matter of if I'll get the money, but which kind... The more that is based on the Grants, the better. This is the only portion which is a bit scary, but for now, it looks like I'm a Westwood animation major, in the accelerated animation Bachelor of Science degree program, which takes 3 years. I'm so excited, I can't even begin to say.

Congrats, Bobtheduck. I'll pray that the second and third portion of the entrance process go satisfactorily for you.

I registered for classes and got my first set of books, and class starts wednesday. There are still some issues to work out with Financial aid, but it looks like everything is go. I really wish I had started with actual computer animation classes, but apparently to get the Bachelor's, Illustration is part of the whole thing, so my first term only has illustration...

The terms are 10 weeks long a piece, and there are 17 of them for the whole degree. I may be able to test out of an English Gen Ed course, which means there will be a little tiny bit taken off total loans needed, and I'm unsure of anything else... It will depend on my transfer from the community college as well, I think. Any discount I can get would be a good thing.

I have 3 books I will have to COMPLETE in 10 weeks, so between that and perhaps working at the Library at the school as part of a Work-Study program, I will have almost no free time. Anyhow, speaking of work, I should get to mine. Besides the cleaning I have here, I really need to get ahead with my work. I'm going to start studying the books today. It is going to be 1+ chapter a week for me to start with, so... So that's enough typing and back to work.

Yeah, much congratulations bro. I hope that you will buckle down and do excellent God-honoring work, both in college and afterward. Also, should you ever start a video game company...look me up, I'm game.
