Swords vrs guns, post yor opinon

I would choose the ability to run, and run fast over guns or swords. LOL

Actually, when I watch my daughter at Aikido and she uses the bokken, I prefer to watch the beauty of swordplay. I also think the ability of foot work is essential and being able to use any object nearby as a weapon would be useful. The grappling used in many martial art forms is great defense, as I prefer defense over offense.

In Texas we're allowed to carry concealed weapons if you get a license to do so. I remember getting that license, but I don't even own a gun. I only wanted to learn the safe way to use a gun and have that choice. I also used to go to a shooting range quite often to try out the different pistols and revolvers to see how they felt when I shot them (writing research). I would never have a gun in my house with kids around, but that's my own belief. Everyone feels differently. I tend to be a pacifist like UC.

Yes, the word of God is the most awesome of weapons. I definitely agree with that.^_^

[size=84][color=seagreen]YOU SEE

You see into the deepest part of me ---

beyond the fog I hide behind.

You cast your light upon the shadows

that stretch like cobwebs in my mind.

You ease the pain when I am hurting,

and morbid visions from my past

pierce into the realm of Reason

as though I danced on blades of glass.

You grant me strength when I have fallen

and, once again, I've lost my way.

You take my hand in Yours and lead me

into the promise of a brand new day.

You bring order to all my chaos,

yet set my well-laid plans awry.

You place me on a firm foundation ---

then give me wings so I can fly.

You sand away my roughened edges

and polish all the dullest parts

until I stand before Your presence...

a newly-sculpted work of art.

You see into the heart within me,

right through my motives and selfish will.

And yet, in spite of all You see

You say You love me even still.

You can't exactly compare a sword with a gun. Both are two completely different types of weapons. Sword for melee and gun for long distances. While one is useless in one situation, the other is useful. It is easier to draw a sword on a person standing 1 ft away from you than it is to pull a gun on them.

The problem is: I am a woman. Alas, my physical strength do not combine with men's. So I prefer to use the gun. Yes, I am trained to use it.

I personally prefer swords to guns anytime. While guns may have a longer range and powerful killing efficiency, they are weapons without discrimination in regards to targets. We're all familiar with situations where children have been shot and killed by stray bullets, like in drive-by shootings. At least with swords, more often than not, the intended target is the one that gets cut down, not innocent bystanders. The gun is a soulless weapon, whereas the sword is an extension of the warrior's body and character. Aside from that, as a Christian, the sword possesses spiritual significance, in that the metaphor of the Sword of the Spirit, which is the Word of God, is quick and powerful. So yep, I'd rather take a katana over a Magnum any day. However, if I am in a situation where the only weapon available for my protection is a gun, my trigger finger's gonna be pretty happy

Oh yeah, for long range, shuriken, bow and arrow, and blow-guns are pretty phat. Silent, but deadly *turns to see the dog smiling and wagging its tail*
Peace,

Jose

yep, i agree with FireStarter.

also, it's easier to kill with a gun then with a sword. With a sword, you really think about it before you do the act, whereas with a gun, it's so easy that people don't usually think first.

For sake of sheer skill, the sword wins hands down. Think about it: which takes more time and energy to learn how to use without injuring yourself in the process? The sword. Guns do require a lot less effort and are long-ranged, which loses a lot of points for me. I mean, if you're gonna kill somebody, at least do it up close and personal. Then, if you change your mind, you have time to let them live. With guns, you point, you shoot, and if you change your mind it's too late. With swords, you have the option of changing your mind in mid-battle. Plus, it takes a lot of time and effort to use the darn thing without hacking off a limb or two.

Obviously, I'm biased, so I'll end there. It's a little too late for this, anyway...

swords hand down...I mean they're so cool. Guns are cool too (and after shooting a paintball gun for the first time), they can be fun to see what you can shoot. Swords though take alot of practice, effort, and time to master and even harder when used in battle.

What do you think the outcome of a sword vs Gun is (as in two people are fighting in battle, one with a sword, one with a gun. Ex=Spike vs Vicious)

As for the main question I'd say swords, as for ranged weapons, we could try using bows, yes, I know they could not beat guns but they do require skill and training (as does everything in life) and I get more fun by using bows then guns.

For killing a person that would not do for me for my belief is life.

By the way I would say I've already tried using a bow but haven't tried using a gun so I can't really talk about it.

well the downside for using a sword in battle, is you get all the blood and gore on you.

If you want long distance, you can also use a shuriken or kunai knives. But with the world were living in today were every thing is technology, I tihnk swords and ninja stuff and those kinds of stuff has gone by the wayside when dealing with warfare.

I was trying to get my friends to let me use a padded sword in paintball during the summer, they said no.

As always, it's function over form for me. Swords look pretty, but they can't down an opponent from +50m away. That, and guns are easy to use, and concealable.

Give me Wolfwood's Cross Punisher.

It's like the Swiss Army knife of butt-kicking.

A light machine gun, 8 .45 caliber semiautomatic handguns, a rocket launcher, it makes a wicked bludgeoning weapon. And you can literally "take up your cross".

I think a very skilled swordsman could beat most people with a pistol or an old gun. But with the advancements in guns these days there is just no way for swords to win although I think there cooler. Then again a very, very, very skilled swordsman could beat anyone with anything.

I would choose a sword and not for a very educated reason either...I guess I am just partial to how cool they look. To me swords befit a hero nicely---that is in the fantasy realm. There is just nothing like a nicely shaped sword to coincide with some awesome design.

On the other hand, in real life by all means a gun if I was forced to defend myself. Not as fanciful to use in a fight, but far more pratical and a greater chance for my surival. @_@

"I think a very skilled swordsman could beat most people with a pistol or an old gun. "

As long as the person he was killing was not of any skill with a gun. I would take on any swordsman ever....and unless he could throw that sword or somthing, I would cap his butt before he was anywhere near me. Its why wars stoped being fought with swords. Swords may look cool...but a gun in the hands of someone skilled is more dangerous.

actually the use of guns, hand cannons first became widespread was because of their relative ease of use. You didnt have to spend a long time trianing a commoner to use this weapon. Also being able to kill some one way farther away then you without haveing to use as much skill as you would with a bow. coupled with relatively easy to make weapons , makes the gun not only practical, but fast produced and cost effective in war, and despite what you may hear in a anime, battles are won 98% of the time on who has the biggest wallet

Kenshin can cut a bullet in half with his sword, block it with his sword, and leap out of the way. Swords would win...except the cardboard ones that I can't make to save my life...

but also kenshin isn't real, and even the most high quality japanese sword or any sword would break if hit by a real modern bullet. so, when his blade breaks and shrapnell tears him up, not to mention the bullet pierceing him as well. kenshin would be pushing up daisys. now a lighsaber, thats a whole different ballgame, that would destroy the bullet as it touched the beam.

LOL  This is a funny topic.

In a lot of anime where there are both guns and swords; a character seams to be more adept to dodge bullets then to dodge a sword, where in reality, you would be better off trying to dodge a sword then most guns.

Funny how things like that work out.
Depend on it. God's work done in God's way will never lack God's supply. He is too wise a God to frustrate His purposes for lack of funds, and He can just as easily supply them ahead of time as afterwards, and He much prefers doing so.
- J. Hudson Taylor
I remember that one fateful day when Coach took me aside. I knew what was coming. "You don't have to tell me," I said. "I'm off the team, aren't I?" "Well," said Coach, "you never were really ON the team. You made that uniform you're wearing out of rags and towels, and your helmet is a toy space helmet. You show up at practice and then either steal the ball and make us chase you to get it back, or you try to tackle people at inappropriate times." It was all true what he was saying. And yet, I thought something is brewing inside the head of this Coach. He sees something in me, some kind of raw talent that he can mold. But that's when I felt the handcuffs go on.

This one needs a reality check, ehhe.

Yeah, lightsabers would smoke bullets. But still, swords look cooler than guns...I don't know about lightsabers, I'd have to say that they're equal in that case.

But hey. Lightsabers aren't real either...guns are probably better in that case but they're far range so one can dodge it if they dodge it right.

The type of combat has changed since the invention of the gun.
In these times, one is forced to dodge and shoot, and has lost all honor if
he meets with his opponent face to face, because then he would be at point blank range. I believe that we are rapidly losing the art of up-front combat, where two men would meet and duel to the death, reading each other's moves in a match of speed and skill. I believe that the artistry involved in this type of combat is much
more developed, and the swordsman can reach infinite levels of skill, whereas with the gun, once a man reaches a certain point of accuracy and speed, he can go no farther. Personally, I prefer the sword, because of the man-to-man combat involved, and the beautiful yet deadly dance that comes with it. However, in battle, a man would merely stab his opponent in any vital area possible, and things are not so pretty. (it's over much faster, and the gore is dominent above the artistry) However, there is something to two armies meeting in battle, up-front, face to face...I guess the point is, one can be dishonorable with either weapon. Pros and Cons, like everything in the world...
