thinpack thoughts?

I think they're a great idea, except that I already own some of the series that have just been made into thinpaks.

I'm thinking of getting the King of Bandit Jing thinpack sometime, though.

It's not a thinpack (brick I think?) but they just recently released both sets of that series. Course it's just a little more expensive (nearing $100 bucks) but in the 2 sets don't forget includes 70 eps!

Is kinda late coming in into the discussion. I also admit I skipped over some posts so I apologize is this has been brought up before.

I personally like the idea of thin-packs. I think they are great alternative for bootlegs are devoid of extras. Though I do like extras, I only use them for trailers coming out. Other then that, I never watch them.

I don't own any thinpacks yet mostly cause I am short on money and I havnt bought any anime dvds for a while now but I do intend to purchase some series via thin packs int he future.

The original Azumanga Daioh DVD's have character sketches, previews, clean opening cuts, and an informative 10 page translation\commentary notes (which is nice to have). The last volume of the regular AD disc has the 10 minute "mini-movie" which was shown in theaters.

These features won't be in the thinpak.

That's the main reason I didn't buy the Azumanga Daioh thinpak when it came out. I love extras, especially the ones for that series. Also, since there are thinpaks now, people are selling their individual discs for decent prices. I haven't bought any thinpaks yet. I might buy the Kaleido Star thinpak, since I think it only had a art gallery and the clean opening and ending. I can live with losing that. I'll have to check Amazon.

I think it would be good to come out with thinpacks for long series' like the Ranma box sets and stuff. I think more people would watch them if they weren't so expensive.

I also really like thinpacks because they are much cheaper and since I've never really watched any of the extras (aside from the occasional textless openings/ending) it's not much of a problem.

A while back I bought Figure17 thinpack for $40 instead of spending $20-29.99 for each individual disk (approx $170+ for the entire series), then last week I got Kino's journey for about $40 rather then fro $120. That's a huge price difference and something I'm not complaining about

Well, you can always buy the thinpacks and convert all your "old" anime. That is what I've done. I don't have the patience to wait for these thinpack sets, but I don't have the space for all my anime, so I've just converted all mine. I've bot about 400 thinpacks. I have to cut down the covers, so they aren't very re-sellable, but just about all my anime I own I plan to keep.

I love thinpaks. Extra's are nothing important to me. I am glad that companys are starting to sell sets in the thinpak format. More Power to them...

I have yet to buy a thin pack, but when I do, it's SO going to be the DNAngel one. I love that show!!!!

Thin packs were an excellent idea...far too many shows have only 4 episodes per DVD and about 8 or more DVDs, which, at thrity bucks a piece, is WAY TOO MUCH!!!!!!!! All the shows should come in thin packs.
