The Angel to Its Child: A poem by my guardian angel

Postby rocklobster » Thu Dec 15, 2005 9:12 am

My guardian angel dictated this poem to me one day. When I read it to my mom, she cried. Hope you like it. I call it "The Angel to Its Child":
I remember it well,
The day I was appointed.
God called to me,
"I have a task for you,
This being will need your guidance.
I have only one question:
Do you wish to do this?"

My first thoughts were "Me?"
"Watch over a human?
Not that it's important,
But why me,
And not another?"

But you can't really say no to Him
So I hesistated only a second,
And bowed my head in obedience,
And agreed to my task.

I remember watching as you were conceived
Oh! How wonderous it was
To watch you develop
Protected from the world
In a silent frame.
Even incomplete,
You were a beautiful thing to behold.

Then you were born
And I helped you.
I guided you along the path,
But you were not easy.

At times you did not heed my advice;
At times you disobeyed me.
You often made it difficult
To forgive what you had done.

But do not despair, my precious child
You did not always disappoint me.
I praised your accomplisments
And whispered "Well done!" into your ears
And rewarded you with a feeling of satisfaction.

You wanted independence eagerly--
To fly on your own ahead of me.
So, at times I let you,
But to your surprise
You knelt, bowed your head
And asked guidance.

These good things were so much better than the bad
That I found it easier to forgive and forget.
For all I had to do
Was think of all the times you pleased me
And the times you came to me for advice.
How honored I felt
That I trusted unconditionally.

And now, you are grown
The child has flown,
Free to make your own mark.
I tearfully opened my arms
And allowed you freedom.
All I could do
Was wave goodbye
And wonder if you would still need me.

I told God, "I suppose my job is through,
He's grown now, and doesn't need me."
God only replied, "We'll see."

But then, I hear your soft voice
Calling from the world,
Lightning fast, I speed to your side.

You look up at me
From where you kneel in prayer
I smile lovingly upon you
And ask, "What do you need?"

Unafraid, you stand up
But you are still so small
(Although, to the rest of your kind
You look quite tall)
Then you wrap your arms around me
And whisper, "Thank you."

And I reply
"You're welcome."

Beautiful poem - truly inspired by a beautiful being.
