Silly ideas we had as kids

Talk about anything in here.

Wow this is my kind of thread.

When I was a kid I think about 4, I know I had to be very young because I was still to young to be in Sunday school.

So anyway I wanted to know how Jesus got up to heaven. I just couldn’t figure it out.
Because I knew he was a man.
Well I knew that angles could fly because they had wings but how could Jesus fly?
I remember laying in my bed trying to figure it out.
The only thing I could think was that he was like superman.
But I decided that I the bible would have said if he was like superman.
So my little 4 year old mind came up with the only logical answer.
Jesus had flying boots. LOL yes he had boots that would make him fly to heaven.

I remember going to sleep thinking how cool it would be, for Jesus to fly me to heaven with him.

When I was real young, my Sunday school class had once been teaching on idols. Unfortunately, one day when I went shopping with my mom to JC Penny's, I took one look at the manequins, and starting voicing loudly (to my mom's embarrasment) that somebody needed to tear down all the evil idols in the store.

I got another one... My friend (who is younger than me) convinced me that the pool vaccume, the kind that skim the top of the water would eat me toes. Up until I was like 11 I was deathly afriad of pool vaccumes.

There is a church song called "Jesus is Coming Soon," that the chorus goes, "Jesus is coming soon; morning or night or noon; many will meet their doom; trumpets will sound. All of the dead shall rise; precious meet in the skies; going where no one dies; heavenward bound." Anyway, for years, I thought it was "precious meat in the skies," without questioning it.

My Granny reminds me of things like this all the time.
There were two kinds of minutes. Playtime minutes (terribly fast) and time-out minutes (oh so slow). So, when I went out to play, I requested time-out minutes instead of playtime minutes.

...That didn't go well...

When I was younger I had the belief I could kill adolesence. And then I thought that shiny nickels and quarters were worth more than rusty ones. Also I thought if I could dig really deep in a sandbox I would reach Hong Kong.

And when I was REAL young I thought the grass was green because people kept spilling green paint over them.
You poor thing.

When I was out on the playground during kindergarten one day, I found this line of shiny sparkly stuff all over some tree roots. Convinced I had found DIAMONDS, I told all the other kids and the teachers. Humoring me, the teachers came over to look...and then laughed and told me it was a snail trail.

<<When I was little I had the typical constant childhood worry about my parents getting old and dying.>>

This was more of a fear than a worry to me because I once had an awful nightmare about my mom dying.

On a funnier note, I used to think that the Ninja Turtles were real and that Michaelangelo was gonna show up at my door one day. I wanted to meet him so bad!
Also, my parents told me that if I swallowed watermelon seeds, I'd grow a watermelon in my stomach. I believed them for a little while.
If you can force your heart and nerve and sinew

My cousins told me that exact same story! Of course, my cousins did everything in their power to scare the ever loving crap outta me! They especially tried scaring me with "Hey, Josh (Real name) The police are going to come get you!" :?:

They also told me that when I swallow my gum, it would get tangled up in my ribs and I would die. (Crying shame I didn't know that the digestion system is one long tube that didn't impact with my ribs WHATSOEVER!)

On that same note, I remember once playing around in a store with a calculator, and I couldn't turn it off. (It was one of those Auto-off cheap looking calculators with the "gemstones" for buttons) I was scared straight thinking that the people in the store were going to find out and arrest me, and make me work to pay for it! I was scared for weeks to even walk past that store in the mall!

Man...I was dumb when I was little! :hits_self

I used to find accorns and dig tiny holes under my pourch and decided that they were going to turn into little tiny candy trees, Like from candy land.

And I would water them everyday, with milk.

lets just say it never happend, But I was patient, so even after we moved, any time we drove through that town I made my mom drive by our old house, just too see if they had grown yet, and I did so up until I was 10...

Milk...oooookkkk....

I know why they didn't grow: The calcium from the milk hardened the shell of the acorn so hard, it couldn't sprout!

Dolphins are awesome.

I was never afraid of the water as a kid (only freaked out by getting my face wet), but my cousin was terrified of sharks in any sort of water. Mostly because his dad let him watch Jaws when he was 5.

I watched Thriller(Michael Jackson, anyone?) when I was about 4 and literally did not sleep for a month.

Same thing here, either a bad guy or a wild animal. And I was like that with the jumping on the bed thing too.

I wasn't afraid of the Boogyman, or monsters.

I actaully knew they did not exist, However dark spirits and Ghosts that would toucher me, Kill my family, ect. I was terrified of. So I talked to the Ghosts/spirits too make sure they didn't have anything to be mad about or hurt me because of.

I always Jumped into my bed from accrossed the room because I thought my floor could fall in and that hell was in my basement, long story.

This one time I put my step-dads glasses on and was amazed at how it made everything closer, and I thought that since it looked closer, it really was.
Well we had a really high pourch with rose bushes along the front and I wanted to fly but I had been afraid of landing on it, But the glasses made them move so I could get over them, So I flew. Straight down, and 1000000 and 1 thornes instered into my butt.
The =)

And this one time I stood in a mudd puddle in a storm while it was POURING down rain long enough to loose my flipflop into the earth, I was convinced that it had goen to the other side of the planet and hit some chinese dood in the head =)

When I was about 4 and my cousin told me there was a yellow jacket in the woods, i started looking for a raincoat on the ground and wondering why they were so scared!

I also tried to use The Force a couple of times.

I was also was afraid of stuff under the bed, etc. when i was little. I'd thought i was over it too about 2 or 3 years ago but then I read Stephen King's version of the "Boogie Man" (short story) and for a short time I was scared again

So when I was at the movies the other day I remembered something else...
When I was little and a movie didn't start on time, my dad told me that the "film guy was just sleeping". So I pictured in the projector room that the guy actually LIVED there and had a little bed and everything, and he was just too tired and lazy to turn on the movie :/

When I was little, I would lie awake at night listening to my heart beat. I was *convinced* it was an army of dangerous lions marching in step around my house. I would try and jump up fast enough to see them out my window before they ran away. Needless to say, I never saw them.

When I hit junior high, I became convinced that life was so bizzare that I was really just part of an alien science experiment. I finally rationalized that, if this were true, there was nothing I could do about it anyway, so I simply don't think about it any more. I'm not sure I ever actually came to the conclusion this wasn't the case. Then I hit college and started reading philosphy and theology texts. Needless to say, THAT didn't help me. ;)

aw, poor little Mithrandir. I love hearing heartbeats. ^^;

My best friend always tells me that I sleep all curled up 'like something's going to get me'. (And having gone on an incredible amount of youth group trips with me, he's seen me asleep a lot). Truth is, there's a very good reason for that.

When I was little, I was convinced that there was a monster underneath my covers at the bottom of my bed, and that if I stretched out, he would grab my feet, pull me under and eat me. So I slept all curled up as tightly as I could. To this day, that's still my comfort position. If I get upset, stressed out, or simply tired, I curl up. I even still feel safer sleeping in that position.

When I was kindergarden-aged I used to believe a dragon lived in the vent in my old house's upstairs bathroom (although I have no clue why I thought that) so I never ever went to the bathroom there.

I also thought I could dig to China, so a neighbor kid and I tried in the backyard. needless to say, we only dug about 6 inches before getting bored.

After seeing Titanic (ln like 4th grade) I was afraid my house would sink.
