I used to get at least five of those cursed things every year. My life is hardly interesting enough to fill one.
At the end of the year, I usually ended up selling them.

My Mom gets me socks and underwear every year simply because we joked about it being the worst present for so long. They're always wrapped very nicely and I never know which package they are. We even have a song for it!

This is more birthdays, but I always hated getting purses.

I used to complain about dress shirts and slacks for Christmas. Now, however, since I'm in a field where I have to actually look professional, I don't complain anymore (as a typical bachelor I'd still go to work in Birkenstocks and shorts if I weren't prohibited from doing so).

Wow. How is that for giving you something you really wanted...

Yea, impossibly small purses irritate me. As well as pens (um, I'm not 12) and usless trinkets, such as... oh, flower sculptures, small boxes, ect. I do not like things like that, I'm rather a minimilist, and can't stand extra clutter.

Flower sculptures, anyone?

My great-grandma's version of Christmas presents is to pick up some random trinket lying around her house (she has a whole three houses worth of STUFF crammed in there, really), stick it in a box, and give it to you. Sometimes they are rather nice, and sometimes they are hideous. It is always useless, such as figurines, jewelry boxes, jewelry, etc.

Unfortunately, I'm rather sentimental, and feel guilty about giving up even the most useless of presents, so now MY house is cluttered. I'm getting over that though.

pencils, and flashlights. For some reason people seem to think that they are presents. They aren't.

I understand the guilt, but I do not succumb to it. I believe in purging right after christmas. And that includes junky presents. I'll donate them to the local thrift store, or *something*. Because while I may dislike my granny candy dish, or set of KeWL gElL pEnS, or my tiny purse, someone else may love them.

I actually don't mind pencils and pens; people know I like to draw and write constantly, so I appreciate them and do actually use them. I can see how it would get annoying, though. ^__^

I'm usually actually pretty thrilled with pencils. XD;

What people used to do for me is go to like, the discount bin in a video store and get me something random. XD; I have so many random DVDs that I've never watched. Also, purses and make-up. O_O; I can understand why some people would want them, but I'd think that after all this time my family would have picked up on the fact that I'm not a purse and makeup kind of girl.

....unless you give me an old tube of red lipstick that I can use to draw on my face with. Then I'm ecstatic. :lol:

After some thought, I can't say I really receive presents that I don't want. My extended family doesn't really feel that obligated to give gifts to everyone, and hence there are fewer bad gifts.

However, I can confidently say I would never want out of date Cheerios for Christmas.

For a while my brother and I mused about giving my sister a stale, partially eaten muffin as a joke present, and then giving her the real one. We decided that while her reaction might have been fun to watch, she really wasn't the sort of person who would take the joke well.
The scientific method," Thomas Henry Huxley once wrote, "is nothing but the normal working of the human mind." That is to say, when the mind is working; that is to say further, when it is engaged in corrrecting its mistakes. Taking this point of view, we may conclude that science is not physics, biology, or chemistry—is not even a "subject"—but a moral imperative drawn from a larger narrative whose purpose is to give perspective, balance, and humility to learning.
