Christian music

Postby pillar_anime7 » Wed Dec 07, 2005 5:56 pm

I was surfing the internet a few months ago and somebody told me about a website that said that rock music cannot be used to spread the Word of God. I went to this website and the people that made it were talking bad about a lot of rock bands, such as dc talk, Superchick, Pillar, and Third Day and even a few worship artists/bands, such as Mercy Me, Jaci Velasquez, Jars of Clay, Delirious, and Michael W. Smith. This person says that they've compromised by "conforming to the world". A sister website I also visited also said that Christian music isn't made to be played in clubs or in secular venues. How messed up is that? Christian bands should be encouraged to play in those venues because those people that go to those clubs probably don't go to church and maybe that artist or band's music could be the first step in them finding God and accepting Jesus as his or her Lord and Saviour. If you ask me, music is like a knife: it's completely neutral and can be used for both good and evil depending on how the person uses it. An example would be a doctor using a scalpel to cut open a patient and to cut out any cancer or any other abnormalities inside that person to save his or her life or a person can take a knife and stab a person to death. Also, anime can be used for good and evil purposes (this website: good; hentai/yaoi: evil). In short, music, anime, or anything else is not about the sound or the type of animation, but what you put in it that matters, and besides, if you go against something that glorifies God, then you're going against God Himself. Thank you.

That's the Corrupt Christianity site isn't it. Ugh! I get very annoyed about the people that say that. Music of any form can be used to spread God's Word. If its from the heart and has a Christian message/worldview that the only thing that really matters in the scheme of things. But we aren't to judge like these people are, we are all fallen and need Jesus saving grace.

We've probably had a thread about this before. I remember seeing a site dedicated to trashing Christian music. The bad thing was, those people claimed to be Christians as well. Real Christlike, bashing other Christians. :shady:

That's the site I was talking about. Those people that made that site have no idea what's inside those bands' hearts and have no understanding of the approach to their calling. They're modern day Pharisees. Pillar is my favorite rock band (hence the screen name). I have two of their albums, I've been to one of their concerts earlier this year and got two homemade autographed posters (I'll give you one guess as to which drawing style I used ;)) Sorry about rambling on but I just want to say that I feel sorry for the people that won't be going to Heaven because of these modern day Pharisees.

Its a joke site. The guy never responds to emails, and most people assume it was a gag someone did to see how many angry responces they could get. Ignore it.

Moved to the music board.

Its a joke site? Pretty darn inconsiderate then. I'm guessing its by those idiots who do The Onion, the Skeptics Bible and other stuff like that?

There was a parody site of it too, but it has since been taken down as well.

Actually, a lot of more traditional Christian groups do not support "rock" music of any kind. This is especially common in a lot of independent Baptist circles (No, I'm not bashing Baptists in any way shape or form).

Personally, I think it's ridiculous to say a certain vibration of sound is "evil" or "of the devil." I've seen a lot of hypocrisy going on in certain groups. As long as it has a Southern/Country sound, it's okay (ie; use of drums/contemporary styled sounds), or the use of an acoustic guitar is perfectly fine, yet an electric guitar is "of the devil." Again, I'm not bashing any groups, but I see it ridiculous to be BSing over sounds and music that contains positive or no objectionable content just because they claim it "sounds like the world."

In that case, if you aren't to "conform" to the world, why do you use electricity or the internet?

I always ask them if they know where the beat came for most the original church hymns. Many were bar songs I belive. The beat anyway.
