Cancer strikes again

Postby Ashley » Fri Dec 12, 2003 6:14 pm

Hey guys, got some serious news. My grandmother was just diagnosed with malignant cancer today...she's 70+ years old, so we doubt she'll make it very long. This will probably be her last christmas. Frankly, I'm really in shock...I've watched another family member die slowly, painfully to cancer, and I don't want to see it again. Especially not since my grandmother is very close to us. To be frank, I'm shocked...I've never had to face losing someone this close. So I guess the prayer isn't so much for healing (although, that would be wonderful) but for my grandfather (who loves her very, very dearly) and my family itself...that the Lord would prepare us well for what lies ahead.

Similar happened to my grandmother. She was in her 80s. She was widowed, though. She was the matriarch of our family... my mom's side of the family used to have big get togethers when I was growing up... we hardly see each other anymore - Nanny was like the "family glue".

Toward the end, she just kind of gave up. I actually prayed for her to die (painlessly and easily), so that my family would not have to watch her waste away. She went peacefully and didn't linger. I was very thankful to God in this case, but I'm not sure what his plan is in your grandmother's case. Your poor grandfather!

Yes, I'll pray for you. I'm hating cancer, right now, myself, because of my 21 year old unsaved friend who has it. It's like... ugh... we need a cure for this disease.

Of course. I went through the same thing with my grandfather last year... It's not an easy thing to have to watch. Image

Sadly, I don't think so. My grandparents have always soft-shoed around religion, really, and been more of the "well all roads lead to Rome/Heaven" profession. My mother has been really praying with her lately, so I hope they are able to reach her. Like many of the members in my family, I'm just frankly unsure about their relationship with the Lord.

mini update, my parents went to dallas this weekend (she's been admitted to Baylor Hospital, for you guys up there) and might bring some news back with them monday on her prognosis and expectancy and all that.

Baylor's a great hospital out here in the D/FW area. I will definitely be praying for your grandmother Ashley and the Lord will speak to her heart. I'm so sorry to hear. I'll be praying for your family and grandfather, as well. ^-^

[size=84][color=seagreen]YOU SEE

You see into the deepest part of me ---

beyond the fog I hide behind.

You cast your light upon the shadows

that stretch like cobwebs in my mind.

You ease the pain when I am hurting,

and morbid visions from my past

pierce into the realm of Reason

as though I danced on blades of glass.

You grant me strength when I have fallen

and, once again, I've lost my way.

You take my hand in Yours and lead me

into the promise of a brand new day.

You bring order to all my chaos,

yet set my well-laid plans awry.

You place me on a firm foundation ---

then give me wings so I can fly.

You sand away my roughened edges

and polish all the dullest parts

until I stand before Your presence...

a newly-sculpted work of art.

You see into the heart within me,

right through my motives and selfish will.

And yet, in spite of all You see

You say You love me even still.

Remember, Ashley, the Lord can do anything. I will pray for you and your family.
"Consider the lilies of the field. They neither sew nor spin, yet I tell you, even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed as one of these. If God so clothes the grass, which is in the field one day and cast into the oven the next, how much more will he clothe you, o ye of little faith?
